Chapter 46 +25 BONUS Kris was so upset that the veins in his neck were popping from how hard he was clenching his fists.

“Brother...Kris, I was just putting this bitch in her pla-”

“Shut up, Susan,” Kris hissed, staring daggers at his sister. “Is it true? Everything you just said?”

He felt so conflicted. Was this truly how his family had treated Thalassa three years ago? He’d known his family didn’t like her, especially his mother, but had it been that bad?

“Kris, she attacked Mum in the organizer’s office. Look what she did,” Susan said, taking his mother’s hand to show the red marks on her wrist.

“Just answer my question,” Kris gritted out, his anger and anxious need for an answer overshadowing his worry for his mother.

Susan didn’t speak. Instead, it was Thalassa “Why are you so surprised by what you just heard, Kris? How else did you expect them to treat me when you never treated me with respect?”

Thalassa scoffed as she turned to Susan. “And you, what did you think you were going to achieve by bringing all this up? Did you really think I was going to feel humiliated if you told people about how you and your family mistreated me? All it does is prove just how horrible you people are.”

Murmurs of agreement echoed from the other guests.

“What a lack of class,” someone commented.

“Money really doesn’t buy class,” another seconded.

Susan was furious hearing all of this. “She is the classless one. No matter how many men she sells her body to, she can never measure up to our family. Her wealth can never erase her filth.”

ד “I said shut your mouth, Susan,” Kris growled, sounding even angrier. “Apologize to her right now.”

Horror flashed on Susan’s face. “What? Never! How can you even ask me to apologize to this bitch?”

She tried to move away, but Kris grabbed her fiercely by the arm. “I said apologize to her.”

Karen was pained seeing how Kris was defending Thalassa with such passion. “Kris, how can you defend her so much after everything she has done to your family? After how she cheated on you and betrayed you? Susan just your told you about how she attacked your mother in the organizer’s office, and still all you care about is for sister to give her an apology?”

Kris clenched his jaw, glaring at Karen in a way that told her to also shut up. “Susan, what are you waiting for?”

Before Susan could open her mouth to do just that, Thalassa spoke, “Apologize for what exactly, Kris? For the insults she just threw at me right now or for how she and the rest of your family treated me years ago? I don’t need it. Nothing that comes from your family is worth anything to me. Not even your apologies.”

With that, she calmly turned and gracefully made her way towards the door. Sweeping a glare across the family, Zeke followed her.

“Son, I can’t believe you defended that woman over me,” Linda immediately began lamenting, but Kris didn’t even stick around.

Instead, he hurried after Thalassa and Zeke, who had already exited the hall.

“Thalassa,” he called out. “We need to talk.”

Immediately, Zeke turned to face him belligerently. “She doesn’t have anything to say to you.”

“What do you want, Kris?” Thalassa questioned, already feeling exhausted by everything.

“Didn’t you?” Thalassa let out a bitter laugh. “I told you a few times at the beginning of our marriage, Kris, but you always called me a liar to my face until I got tired and decided to endure it all silently like a quiet little dog,”

Kris felt his chest squeeze tightly, remembering that she’d indeed told him, but he hadn’t believed her because how could he doubt his family over a woman who cheated on him on the night before their wedding?

His family also never treated her that way in front of him, so how was he supposed to know?

“If I’d known that it was true, I would’ve stopped them from mistreating you,” he said honestly.

“Would you have?” Thalassa’s face hardened. “Would you have really stopped them when you yourself treated me like I wasn’t even worthy of being your wife? They treated me that way because of you. Because you never gave me the respect that I deserved in front of them. So don’t come here with your misplaced regret. What are you so regretful for anyway when you hate me so much?”

With that, she turned and continued walking, Zeke following her. They walked towards a plush white car, and Zeke opened the front passenger door for her before getting into the driver’s seat.

Kris watched as they drove off, feeling like he was going out of his mind. Thalassa was right. He hated her, so why was he feeling this way?
