Chapter 48
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 47 Chapter 47 As Zeke drove Thalassa to her and Luisaâs house, the ride was silent all the way. The few times heâd tried to initiate conversation, sheâd instantly killed it with short, disinterested answers.
Some time later, he pulled the car into the driveway of her house. Killing the engine, he turned to her, concern etched on his face.
âLasaa, are you okay?
She raised an eyebrow. âWhy wouldnât I be?â
Zeke bit his lip, wondering whether to probe. Since the day she broke down in his arms at her office, sheâd gone back to never sharing her thoughts or emotions with him. He knew she wouldnât tell him what was on her mind if he asked, but he was certain it had something to do with Kris Miller.
âYou shouldnât let him get to you,â he finally risked saying Thalassa stiffened. âWhat are you talking about?â
âIâm talking about Kris and his claims that he didnât know how his family mistreated you. You shouldnât let him deceive you. Heâs obviously only trying to free himself from his guilt and-â
âIâd rather not continue this discussion,â Thalassa cut him off, feeling uncomfortable.
âOkay, youâre right. Iâm sorry. I have no right to talk to you about such things,â Zeke said and leaned back into his seat.
Just then, his phone rang, saving them from the awkward silence. He answered and talked to the person on the other end for a few seconds.
âOkay, Iâll be there soon,â he said and finally hung up.
âUnfortunately, I canât go inside with you. But Iâll be here to see you and Luisa later,â he said.
After living with her in the same house for three years in New York, he hated that they lived in different houses now. When Thalassa was set on returning, he had Luisa suggest they live in his house in Baltimore, but Thalassa refused and bought a house for herself instead.
âOkay. Thanks for accompanying me to the charity functionâ Thalassa said as she unclipped her seatbelt. Zeke smiled. If only she knew how much it meant to him that she accepted his company. âIt was my pleasure.â A brief silence ensued. Zeke suddenly felt a surge of boldness. Taking off his seatbelt, he leaned toward her, intending to kiss her on the cheek. Before he could get close enough, Thalassa suddenly opened her door and stepped out of the car, leaving Zeke hanging.
See you later,â she said and started making her way t the house.
Zeke sank back into his seat, letting out a long, suffering sigh.
When Thalassa went into the house, there was no sign of Luisa. She went and sat on one of the couches in the living room, thinking about nothing in particular.
âLassa, youâre back,â Luisa said excitedly as she rounded the couch. âWhereâs Zeke?â
âHe got a call and needed to go, but he said he will be here later.â
âOh my gosh, Lassa! You did fantastic!â Luisa exclaimed as she sat down on the couch beside Thalassa. âYouâre going viral again. I saw the video of the auction and how you tricked Linda into bidding so much. Apparently, sheâs.
+25 BONUS Chapter 47 the only one who didnât know she was being played.â
Luisa laughed. âSomeone also uploaded the video of Susan attacking you, and now the Miller family is going viral again for all the wrong reasons. People are bashing them left, right, and center for how they treated you when you were their daughterâinâ
law. Those people really know how to mess things up for themselves.â
âI see. Thatâs great,â Thalassa said, trying to sound enthusiastic, but Luisa wasnât fooled.
âHey, whatâs wrong?â
âNothing. Why do you ask?â
Luisa narrowed her eyes. âYou just had another victory over the Millers, and you donât even look a bit excited. Come on, tell me whatâs bothering you. Is it Kris?â
Thalassa wanted to deny it, wanted to say that she could never be affected by Kris again, but she knew Luisa would see right through her.
She sighed. âKris told me that he never realized how badly his family mistreated me. He said he always thought I was lying, but if he had known it was true, he would have done something to stop them.â
âOh,â Luisa said and went silent for a few seconds before asking, âAnd do you believe him?
âOf course not!â Thalassa hissed. âI canât believe he has the guts to tell me that lie to my face. Who does he think I am? That naive, stupid woman who always scrambled for every crumb of affection he had to offer me?â
Her voice had gotten higher and fiercer, which alarmed Luisa. âThalassa, youâre too upset by this. Itâs not worth Thalassa took a deep breath. Luisa was right. It wasnât worth it. Even if Kris was telling the truth, it still didnât change the fact that he could have done something if he hadnât accused her of lying whenever she complained about how his family mistreated her.
âYou need something to cheer you up, and I think I know exactly what.â Luisa smiled mischievously. âWeâre going clubbing tonight!â
Thalassa grimaced. âBut you said you werenât feeling well That was what Luisa had told her earlier before suggesting she go with Zeke instead.
âIâm much better now,â Luisa quickly said before Thalassa could become suspicious. âCome on, letâs go. Itâs been a while since you and I went to a club together.
âExactly. We havenât done that since you started dating Victor because he doesnât like you going to such places.â
Luisaâs smile dropped. âVictor and I are not together anymore.â
Thalassaâs eyes widened. âWhat? Since when?â
âHe got upset when he found out three days ago that I was in Baltimore and gave me two days to return to New York or forget about our relationship. I hung up on him, and I havenât answered any of his calls since then.â Thalassa was shocked but also glad that Luisa had gotten the courage to go against Victor. Before, she would always rush to please him even though he didnât give her the respect and attention she deserved.
âHow do you feel about it?â she questioned gently.
âIt felt painful on the first day but not anymore. That bastard doesnât deserve me.â
Thalassa couldnât help the broad smile that widened her lips. âWell, now weâre definitely going to the club. This Chapter 47 is something to celebrate!â
