Chapter 59
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 58 After walking out of Krisâs office, Millie sat at her desk, feeling more anxious than she had in a long time. This was definitely not how sheâd expected the day to go.
Yes, she knew that eventually, her relationship with Thalassa would have to come to light, but sheâd hoped it would be after Kris finally realized the truth about his mother and his wife.
It suddenly occurred to her that she had to let Thalassa know. Picking up her phone, she dialed her friendâs number, anxiously tapping her finger on her lap as she waited for the call to be answered.
âHey, Millie. Good to hear from you. How are you doing?â Thalassa spoke from the other end.
âNot fine. Thalassa, Iâm in trouble.â
âWhy? What happened?â Thalassa questioned, her voice filled with concern.
âHe knows,â Millie said, lowering her voice to just a little over a whisper.
âWho knows what?â
âKris. He knows that Iâve been helping you all this time.â
Silence ensued for a couple of seconds until Thalassa spoke again. âHow did he find out?â
âApparently, he and his family never told anyone that they were going to the charity function. I was the only one who heard them discussing it. When he confronted me about it, I didnât know how to deny it.â
Looking back, she realized that she might have had some luck if sheâd denied it, had she not been so nervous.
âOh, Lassa, Iâm so sorry.â
âNo. You donât have to be sorry for anything, Millie. Itâs okay. We knew it would have to happen eventually. How did he react?â
âHe looked... he looked so disappointed in me,â Millie lamented, feeling so guilty. âBut thatâs not all. I mightâve told him something you probably wonât like.â
âWhat did you tell him?â
âI told him that you and Zeke are not together and that youâve never been lovers. I explained how you met him and why you lived with him for so long,â Millie quickly said.
âBut Millie, why did you do that?â
âIâm sorry, it just came up in the conversation. When I realized that he thought you cheated on him with Zeke, I just had to clarify.
Besides, why did you even decide to lie to him about it?â
âI had my reasons,â Thalassa said with a sigh.
Suddenly, Millie heard the sound of Krisâs office door being clicked open, and she quickly brought her phone down so he wouldnât see that she was on a call.
She braced herself, waiting for him to say the fâword, but he didnât even spare her a glance. He just stormed by her table and headed to the elevator, a gloomy look on his face.
She brought the phone back to her ear. âHe just left the office. I have a feeling that heâs coming to see you.
âDonât worry, I will handle him,â Thalassa assured her. âBut what about you? Did he say something about your job?â
Chapter 58 +25 BONUS Millie sighed miserably. âHe said that we would talk about it later, but I have no doubt that heâs going to fire me. Why would he want me to keep working for him after finding out about my betrayal?â
âEven if he fires you, you know youâll always have a position in the fashion company, so donât worry about it,â Thalassa reminded her.
âOkay, Iâll try not to think about it. But thatâs not what concerns me the most.â
âWhat is it then?â
Millie bit her lip, wondering whether to say what was on her mind. In the end, she decided to.
âItâs just that I feel so guilty, Lassa. Kris... I know your experience with Kris is different, but to me, he has been nothing but good.
He has always treated me with respect and like my opinions matter. I donât think he deserves my betrayal.â
She could hear Thalassa draw in a sharp breath at the other end. âHe doesnât deserve your betrayal? But you think I deserved what he and his family did to me three years ago?â
âWasnât it his mother and Karen who did it?â Millie tried to reason. âLassa, have you tried to investigate the embezzlement his mother accused you of? Perhaps you can find some evidence to prove that his mother made it all up and that you never stole any money from them.â
âDo you really think thatâs not the first thing I had investigated?â Thalassa questioned with a bitter edge to her tone. âIt was of no use. His mother planned everything so perfectly, like it was me who set up the account and had been embezzling the funds into it. There was no evidence to prove that it wasnât me.â
Millie was confused. âThen why do you hate Kris so much when there was no evidence to prove your innocence?â âBecause he didnât even try to prove my innocence!â Thalassa hissed with a hint of annoyance in her voice. âThalassa, itâs been three years.
How do you know that he never tried?â Millie asked.
Silence ensued on the other end before Thalassa spoke. âIf youâre only going to defend him, then maybe we shouldnât talk right now. Iâll see you later.â
With that, she ended the call. Millie sighed.
á¡áá Thalassa was in her office going over some files when her phone rang. It was her secretary calling. âThalassa, Mr. Kris Miller is here and says he has something important to discuss with you.ââ âLet him in,â Thalassa said, preparing herself for the confrontation she knew was coming A few seconds later, the door opened, and Kris stepped in, his gaze pointed intently at her.
Thalassa slowly got up to her feet. âWhat is it this time, Kris? What do you want?â âYou lied to me,â Kris went straight to the point after closing the door behind him.
