Chapter 62
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 61 Karenâs heart skipped a beat, wondering why he was bringing this up after so many years. She could only think of one reason.
Immediately, she put on a mask of confusion to hide her nervousness. âExcuse me?â
âYou heard me,â Kris insisted, his gaze uncompromising and demanding.
âDid you finally show those pictures to Thalassa? What did she say? She claimed that they were fake, didnât she?â Karen snapped. âAnd you believed her?â
âWhat she told me doesnât matter,â Kris ground out. âJust answer the damn question.â
âI donât like how youâre talking to me, Kris. Letâs talk later when youâre calmer,â she said, attempting to sit back down at the dresser, but Kris grabbed her by the arm.
âYouâre not going anywhere until you answer my question. Where did you get these photos from?â he hissed. Karenâs heart raced. Why was he acting like this? Had he believed Thalassa already?
âExactly what your mother told you when she gave them to you,â she retorted, trying to wriggle her arm from his hold. âYouâre hurting me.â
Kris let go of her arm but still stood firmly in front of her as he sneered, âDonât drag my mother into this. You were the one who gave her the pictures to give to me because you didnât have the courage to give them to me yourself. Wasnât that what you told me when I asked you later? So tell me right now, where did you get them?â
âI took them myself!â Karen lashed out. âI took them because I couldnât stand seeing how Thalassa was making al fool out of you even on the night before your wedding. Didnât I tell you that? Despite everything, she was my friend, and I felt like I was betraying her. I did it for you, so why are you asking me about it like I did something wrongâ
âHow come she didnât see you taking the pictures?â Kris demanded.
âBecause I hid. But even if she saw me, she didnât care because she didnât think I would ever tell you the truth. Thatâs how shameless she was.â
Kris turned away from her, shoving his hand furiously into his hair. He didnât know what heâd expected to achieve she by confronting Karen. If Karen had truly made it all up like Thalassa had claimed, then there was no way would admit it.
âI canât believe this,â Karen said behind him. âDidnât you have those pictures verified by three professionals? How could you have allowed that woman to convince you that theyâre fake? And how could you talk to me and treat me like this? Iâm your wife.â
Exasperated, Kris turned and stormed out of the room, ignoring Karenâs calls behind him. He felt furious and agitated with himself.
Karen was right. The fact that heâd had those pictures verified shouldâve been enough to withstand his doubts, but why did he still feel like something was amiss?
No matter what, he had to get to the bottom of this.
Later that evening at Thalassa and Luisaâs house, Thalassa had just narrated the confrontation she and Kris had in her office to Luisa and Millie, and both women were furious.
1/3 +25 BONUS Chapletel âSo Kris hates you because he thinks you cheated on him because of a picture thatâs obviously fake?â Millie asked in bewilderment.
âHeâs obviously an idiot,â Luisa fumed as she shot to her feet. âHow could he have allowed them to fool him with that picture?
Either that, or he must be lying about having those pictures checked. If heâd really done that, then he wouldâve realized that the pictures were fake.â
âNo, he wouldnât have found out anything,â Thalassa said.
Luisa frowned. âWhat do you mean?â
âHe wouldnât have found anything because those pictures are real,â Thalassa explained calmly.
Luisa and Millie were stunned as they looked at each other, but Luisa was the one with enough boldness to ask the question on both of their minds.
âAre you...are you saying that itâs true that you cheated on Kris?â Luisa asked tentatively.
âNo, I never cheated on him. Iâm just saying that the pictures are real. The woman in those pictures is me.â
Luisaâsank back beside Thalassa in confusion. âWhat do you mean?â
Thalassa narrated everything that happened on the night before the wedding. At least, everything she remembered; how Karen had lured her to the nightclub, how sheâd suddenly gotten groggy, and how she didnât remember anything else.
âYou mean that bitch drugged you and set you up with some guy just so she could take pictures and break your wedding?â Luisa said, shock and rage mixing in her voice.
âThat woman is even more vile than I thought. Sheâs worse than a snake. How could she have called herself your best friend and still done something like that to you?â Millie added.
Thalassa felt her chest squeeze painfully. After everything she knew about Karen, this shouldnât have come as a shock to her, and it shouldnât hurt this much. But it hurt.
It hurt so much to think that sheâd considered someone like Karen her best friend for such a long time, oblivious in her foolishness, not knowing the kind of evil intentions her supposed âbest friendâ harbored against her.
âBut I donât get it,â Millieâs forehead squeezed with confusion. âWhy did Kris wait so long to show those pictures to you? Why did he never confront you about them during your marriage?â
âBecause he wanted me to confess to them myself,â Thalassa mused.
During their marriage, every time sheâd demanded to know why heâd changed so much and what she had done to deserve his mistreatment, he would look her dead in the eyes and say, âI donât know. You tell me, Thalassa. What have you done?â
It all made perfect sense now. He never confronted her with the pictures because heâd been waiting for her to confess herself.
Confess and beg for forgiveness for something she never even did. Then he wouldâve probably divorced her after making her suffer.
âHe married me for revenge. To make me suffer,â She said as the realization occurred to her. She felt even more páined.
âAnd all because of Karen. What are we going to do to that bitch? She canât just get away with paying a man to rape you just so she could-â
As soon as the word fell out of Luisaâs mouth, all of them froze, especially Thalassa, who felt rage bubbling through her.
Chapter ol âWhat did you say?â
+25 BONUS Luisa was too stunned to repeat what she said. It was Millie who spoke, her voice hesitant.
âLassa, what if Karen didnât just take a picture of you naked with that man? What if she allowed that man to...have his way with you?â
