Chapter 69
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 68 Chapter 68 +25 BONUS âWhat the hell? I bought those for her. Why would you just throw them away?â Clark looked offended and upset.
Realizing the attention that was now on them, Thalassa finally snapped back to the situation and quickly pushed Kris away from her.
âWhat right do you think you have to throw my flowers away? What is wrong with you?â she hissed.
âNo. What is wrong with YOU?!â Kris retorted. âWhy would you take the flowers and keep them so close to you when you know that you have a reaction to them?â
âReaction?â Clark frowned and turned to Thalassa. âWhat is he talking about?â
âSheâs allergic to them, idiot. They give her headaches. You wouldâve noticed she wasnât alright if you had studied her reaction instead of talking like a fucking parrot.â
âYou bastard, you tricked me. You told me they were her favorite flowers.â Clark accused before turning to Thalassa. âWhy didnât you tell me? Iâm so sorry. Are you okay?â
Thalassa nodded, even though her hard eyes were directed at Kris. âYes, Iâm fine, Clark. Do not listen to Kris.â She looked pointedly at Kris. âI lied about my allergy.â
Without missing a beat, Kris scoffed. âYouâre only pretending right now, but I know that as soon as you get to your office, youâre going to take two painkillers. You never lied to me.â
Hearing his words, Thalassa couldnât help but smile bitterly. âOut of all the things you couldâve chosen not to call me a liar for, this is what you finally settled on, isnât it?â
Kris winced, knowing she was referring to all the times heâd doubted her...was still doubting her.
âThalassa...â
Thalassa cut him off. âI donât know what youâre trying to achieve here, but stop being a hypocrite and acting like you care about my wellâbeing.â
Without waiting for him to say anything else, she turned and walked out of the restaurant, leaving Kris gritting his teeth in frustration.
âUh, donât you think you overreacted a bit?â Aldenâs voice came from behind him. âYou really didnât have to grab the flowers and throw them so hard.â
Kris knew that his friend was right, but he felt justified. Thalassa was willing to keep holding on to those flowers as long as she was in his sight, and he hadnât wanted her headache to worsen.
The scattered petals were now being swept away by a cleaner, and Kris offered an apologetic look to her.
âOkay, I already settled the bill. We should probably leave now because the people here wonât stop staring.
Kris nodded, and they headed towards the door. Just as they stepped out, his phone rang. He stiffened when he saw the name on the screen. It was his PI.
âSmoke. Tell me,â he said.
Alden watched how Krisâs expression changed from nervous anticipation to gloominess, and finally a hint of rage. When he ended the call, Kris had a hard look in his eyes.
âWhat? What happened? What did Smoke say to you?â
Instead of answering, Kris said in a cold tone, âI need you to do me a favor, Alden.â
1/3 +25 BONUS Chapter 68 Alden frowned and asked curiously, âWhat is it?â
Kris began telling him, and by the time he was done, Alden was shaking his head grimly. âNo way. Iâm not doing that.â
âAlden, I need your help. You canât refuse.â
âDude, in case you havenât noticed, I fucking like Luisa, and if I do this, sheâs going to think I only got close to help you out.â
Alden mused. âWhy donât you let Millicent do it? Sheâs Thalassaâs friend, isnât she?â
âThatâs the problem,â Kris said. âBecause sheâs her friend, she doesnât want to do anything that would make it feel like sheâs betraying her.â
Kris stood pondering for a bit. âHow about the two of you do it together?â He suggested. âYou can make Luisa believe that Millicent is trying to set you two up. That way, there wouldnât be much suspicion.â
Aldenâs eyes narrowed as he stared at Kris. He didnât like the cold look in Krisâs eyes.
âYou still havenât told me what Smoke told you. And why do you want to get Thalassa to that place anyway? What are you planning, Kris? Donât tell me youâre planning to humiliate her again.â Alden asked seriously, waiting for an answer.
âDaddy!â the little girl squealed immediately when she saw Kris walk into the house, and she began to run towards him.
âCareful, sweetie,â Kris cautioned. Fearing that she would fall, he hurried to meet her halfway, scooping her into his arms.
âHowâs the sweetest girl in the whole world?â
âFine.â Tessa beamed at him in a way that never failed to make his chest explode with love.
After peppering her with some kisses, Kris looked at the nanny.
âWhereâs Karen?â
âSheâs by the pool. She said she wanted to soak up some sum.â
Nodding, Kris cradled his daughter in his arms as he made his way to the poolside, located in the backyard of the mansion.
Karen was indeed lounging, wearing a bikini with her eyes closed.
âKaren,â Kris called out once he stood beside her.
Karenâs eyes immediately snapped open and widened slightly. âKris.â
She sat up, feeling slightly nervous. âPlaying with Tessa made me so exhausted. Thatâs why I left her with the nanny so that I could relax for a bit.â
âItâs okay. Iâm not here to talk about that,â Kris said, which caused her to raise a brow.
âWhat about then?â
For the past two days since he came to question her about the pictures, Kris had barely spoken to her. They had become more than strangers in the bedroom, so him talking to her without any sort of anger surprised her. Not that she was complaining.
2/3 Chapter 68 +25 BONUS Kris sighed. âI just want to apologize for how I confronted you two days ago. Iâm really sorry.â
Though his apology surprised her, Karen couldnât help her delight. âYou finally realized that Thalassa tried to fool you again, right? I told you. And donât worry, Iâm glad you realized that you made a mistake. I forgive you.â
She got up, wanting to step closer and try her luck for a kiss, but their daughter was wedged high between them, which denied her access.
âReally? You forgive me just like that?â
Karen paused. âWhat do you mean?â
âI mean I was thinking of making it up to you.â Kris smiled âHow about dinner? Just the two of us. Itâs been a while since the two of us went out together. I would like to take you out tonight as my apology.â
âLike a date?â Karen asked, unable to hide the excitement in her voice.
âYes.â Kris said, his smile still firmly in place. âWill you go out with me?â
Karen was beside herself with joy, wondering whether she was dreaming. If so, then she didnât want to wake up.
âOf course, Iâll go out with you. Just tell me the time, and Iâll dress up just the way youâll love.â
Turning to pick up her phone, she did not see the cold look in his eyes.
