Chapter 68 Chapter 68 +25 BONUS “What the hell? I bought those for her. Why would you just throw them away?” Clark looked offended and upset.

Realizing the attention that was now on them, Thalassa finally snapped back to the situation and quickly pushed Kris away from her.

“What right do you think you have to throw my flowers away? What is wrong with you?” she hissed.

“No. What is wrong with YOU?!” Kris retorted. “Why would you take the flowers and keep them so close to you when you know that you have a reaction to them?”

“Reaction?” Clark frowned and turned to Thalassa. “What is he talking about?”

“She’s allergic to them, idiot. They give her headaches. You would’ve noticed she wasn’t alright if you had studied her reaction instead of talking like a fucking parrot.”

“You bastard, you tricked me. You told me they were her favorite flowers.” Clark accused before turning to Thalassa. “Why didn’t you tell me? I’m so sorry. Are you okay?”

Thalassa nodded, even though her hard eyes were directed at Kris. “Yes, I’m fine, Clark. Do not listen to Kris.” She looked pointedly at Kris. “I lied about my allergy.”

Without missing a beat, Kris scoffed. “You’re only pretending right now, but I know that as soon as you get to your office, you’re going to take two painkillers. You never lied to me.”

Hearing his words, Thalassa couldn’t help but smile bitterly. “Out of all the things you could’ve chosen not to call me a liar for, this is what you finally settled on, isn’t it?”

Kris winced, knowing she was referring to all the times he’d doubted her...was still doubting her.

“Thalassa...”

Thalassa cut him off. “I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve here, but stop being a hypocrite and acting like you care about my well–being.”

Without waiting for him to say anything else, she turned and walked out of the restaurant, leaving Kris gritting his teeth in frustration.

“Uh, don’t you think you overreacted a bit?” Alden’s voice came from behind him. “You really didn’t have to grab the flowers and throw them so hard.”

Kris knew that his friend was right, but he felt justified. Thalassa was willing to keep holding on to those flowers as long as she was in his sight, and he hadn’t wanted her headache to worsen.

The scattered petals were now being swept away by a cleaner, and Kris offered an apologetic look to her.

“Okay, I already settled the bill. We should probably leave now because the people here won’t stop staring.

Kris nodded, and they headed towards the door. Just as they stepped out, his phone rang. He stiffened when he saw the name on the screen. It was his PI.

“Smoke. Tell me,” he said.

Alden watched how Kris’s expression changed from nervous anticipation to gloominess, and finally a hint of rage. When he ended the call, Kris had a hard look in his eyes.

“What? What happened? What did Smoke say to you?”

Instead of answering, Kris said in a cold tone, “I need you to do me a favor, Alden.”

Kris began telling him, and by the time he was done, Alden was shaking his head grimly. “No way. I’m not doing that.”

“Alden, I need your help. You can’t refuse.”

“Dude, in case you haven’t noticed, I fucking like Luisa, and if I do this, she’s going to think I only got close to help you out.”

Alden mused. “Why don’t you let Millicent do it? She’s Thalassa’s friend, isn’t she?”

“That’s the problem,” Kris said. “Because she’s her friend, she doesn’t want to do anything that would make it feel like she’s betraying her.”

Kris stood pondering for a bit. “How about the two of you do it together?” He suggested. “You can make Luisa believe that Millicent is trying to set you two up. That way, there wouldn’t be much suspicion.”

Alden’s eyes narrowed as he stared at Kris. He didn’t like the cold look in Kris’s eyes.

“You still haven’t told me what Smoke told you. And why do you want to get Thalassa to that place anyway? What are you planning, Kris? Don’t tell me you’re planning to humiliate her again.” Alden asked seriously, waiting for an answer.

“Daddy!” the little girl squealed immediately when she saw Kris walk into the house, and she began to run towards him.

“Careful, sweetie,” Kris cautioned. Fearing that she would fall, he hurried to meet her halfway, scooping her into his arms.

“How’s the sweetest girl in the whole world?”

“Fine.” Tessa beamed at him in a way that never failed to make his chest explode with love.

After peppering her with some kisses, Kris looked at the nanny.

“Where’s Karen?”

“She’s by the pool. She said she wanted to soak up some sum.”

Nodding, Kris cradled his daughter in his arms as he made his way to the poolside, located in the backyard of the mansion.

Karen was indeed lounging, wearing a bikini with her eyes closed.

“Karen,” Kris called out once he stood beside her.

Karen’s eyes immediately snapped open and widened slightly. “Kris.”

She sat up, feeling slightly nervous. “Playing with Tessa made me so exhausted. That’s why I left her with the nanny so that I could relax for a bit.”

“It’s okay. I’m not here to talk about that,” Kris said, which caused her to raise a brow.

“What about then?”

For the past two days since he came to question her about the pictures, Kris had barely spoken to her. They had become more than strangers in the bedroom, so him talking to her without any sort of anger surprised her. Not that she was complaining.

Though his apology surprised her, Karen couldn’t help her delight. “You finally realized that Thalassa tried to fool you again, right? I told you. And don’t worry, I’m glad you realized that you made a mistake. I forgive you.”

She got up, wanting to step closer and try her luck for a kiss, but their daughter was wedged high between them, which denied her access.

“Really? You forgive me just like that?”

Karen paused. “What do you mean?”

“I mean I was thinking of making it up to you.” Kris smiled “How about dinner? Just the two of us. It’s been a while since the two of us went out together. I would like to take you out tonight as my apology.”

“Like a date?” Karen asked, unable to hide the excitement in her voice.

“Yes.” Kris said, his smile still firmly in place. “Will you go out with me?”

Karen was beside herself with joy, wondering whether she was dreaming. If so, then she didn’t want to wake up.

“Of course, I’ll go out with you. Just tell me the time, and I’ll dress up just the way you’ll love.”

Turning to pick up her phone, she did not see the cold look in his eyes.
