Chapter 84
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 84 Chapter 84 s nothing I want more in this world than for you to forgive me... Lassa.â
Thalassaâs heart squeezed painfully at the affectionate name heâd used. It was a nickname many close to her called her, but there had been something special about the way he said itâa certain raspiness and breathiness that made her weak in the knees.
The last time heâd called her by that name was four years ago when theyâd been happy, before they got married, and he changed into a completely different man.
Glaring at him, she gritted out coldly, âDo not call me that again, Mr. Miller.â
Kris swallowed, feeling the frostiness in her tone, knowing this was going to be just as hard as he had expected. But at least sheâd given him some kind of reaction. Her anger was far better than her indifference.
He risked a step forward. âThalassa, I know that Iâve hurt you more than any man ever has, and...â
âAny man?â Luisa scoffed. âTry anybody.â
Now Kris knew this was going to be ten times tougher with Luisa present. Dragging in a deep breath, he corrected himself, his gaze still on Thalassa.
âI know that Iâve hurt you more than anyone has ever hurt you, and I donât even know where to begin apologizing.â
âMaybe start by apologizing for treating her like trash throughout your marriage! All the times you called her a goldâdigger and a slut,â Luisa butted in again. âOr when you threw her in jail. Or maybe when you refused to believe her when she told you she was pregnant and still went on to divorce her and kick her out of your life in the middle of the night! The list is endless.â
Kris felt his frustration and desperation mount even higher but he knew he couldnât fault Luisa. Sheâd spoken nothing but the truth.
âFor all of it. I regret every one of those things. Every single wrong I did against her,â he answered, feeling his throat tighten. 1 While Luisa fumed, she didnât say anything more. Kris looked at Thalassa, his heart in his mouth as he waited for her to say something.
âOkay,â she finally said and immediately turned towards her car, but Kris was quick to grab her by the arm.
âNo. You canât just say that and walk away. Please say something,â he pleaded.
Thalassaâs eyes glared down at the spot where his hand was wrapped around her arm, her gaze hardening.
Kris?â
âWhat do you want me to say, âAnything,â Kris said desperately. âShout at me. Call me the most idiotic person in the whole world, but please, say something.â
âI said all that I had to say the last time we spoke in my office when you showed me those pictures. Do you remember what I told you before you left?â
Kris brought his hand up, running it lightly through his hair. âThalassa-â
âTell me what I told yoù on that day, Kris,â she demanded, her hard eyes never leaving his.
Kris pursed his lips for a few seconds before reluctantly answering, âYou told me that... that if I ever regretted 1/3 +25 BONUS Chapter 84 everything Iâve done to you, not even begging for your forgiveness would be enough to make you forgive me.â
Thalassaâs lips stretched into a tight smile as she jerked her arm from his hold. âYou said it so perfectly, which means you clearly remember. So, what are you still doing in front of me saying all those things?â
Kris felt like a pin had punctured the little bubble of hope heâd had, and it kept getting smaller and smaller.
âThalassa, please...â He tried to take her hand into his, but she immediately pulled it out of his reach as she lashed out.
âWhat makes you think that you even have the slightest right to stand in front of me and ask for my forgiveness? What makes you think youâre even worthy of that?â
âIâm not. I know Iâm not, Thalassa,â Kris croaked. âI know Iâm not worthy of receiving anything from you because of how much I hurt you, much less your forgiveness. Heck, I know I donât even deserve to breathe the same air as you, but please... I was a complete idiot for not trusting you like I was supposed to and for hurting you because of all the lies I believed about you. But you donât know how much I regretââ
<<
âYour regret doesnât mean shit to me!â Thalassa hissed furiously. The indifference was now completely gone. Just like my pleas for you to believe in my innocence never meant anything to you. That regret isnât going to erase everything you allowed your family to put me through, or anything you put me through during our marriage.â
A hard, bitter laugh left her throat. âDo you know whatâs most ironic? When we got married, I meant everything I said to you in front of the altar. What about you? Every promise, every vow you made that day was a lie. You married me to make me pay for something I never did. While you promised to make me the happiest woman on earth, what was truly going through your head the whole time was how you could make me suffer for the rest of my life.â
Her nostrils flaring, she challenged, âDeny it.â
Kris was lost for words because how could he deny something that was true? He remembered that day perfectly, the joy, happiness, and love in her eyes as sheâd said her vows to him. Now he feared that she would never look at him that way again.
About to take another step closer, he stopped when she glared at his legs. His heart sank even further as he spoke.
âThalassa, I know that I was more than an asshole and an idiot, but please, youâve got to understand me. I loved you so much, and I thought it was going to always be us, happy forever. Seeing all that evidence... it shattered my whole world.â
If he thought the pain in his eyes was going to soften her rage, it had the completely opposite effect as she cut him off sharply.
âDo not speak to me about love, Kris Miller, because you donât know what the fuck that is,â she raged. âIf you loved me so much like you claim, then my word and my love shouldâve been enough to convince you that I could never betray you!â
