Chapter 88 Chapter 88 +25 BONUS When Kris returned, he found his mother sitting in a chair in the waiting area. She stood up as soon as she noticed him.
âKris, what took you so long? I was beginning to think you already left.â Concern filled her expression. âIs everything okay? Why do you have that look on your face?â
âItâs nothing,â Kris replied, not in the mood to elaborate.
âCan we go see Karen now? I need to be at the fashion house soon.â His mother asked.
Nodding, Kris approached the female officer at the front desk. âWeâre here to see Karen Blade. She was brought in yesterday.â
The woman raised an eyebrow and turned her gaze to his mother. âBoth of you?â 1 âYes. Is there a problem? I know itâs allowed,â Kris pointed âYes, itâs allowed, but...â The female officer trailed off, her words causing Lindaâs heart to skip a beat. She hoped the woman wouldnât reveal to Kris that she had already visited Karen.
âItâs just that...â The officer began saying again, then shrugged. âSorry, you can both go ahead.â
Linda could barely hold back a sigh of relief as she wrapped her hand around Krisâs arm, and they headed toward Karenâs holding cell.
The moment Kris set eyes on the woman he detested more than anyone in the world, a fresh wave of fury surged through him as he remembered the discussion heâd had with Thalassa a few minutes ago.
Because of Karen, he had lost the woman he loved most and his child. For that, he despised her with every fibre in his body.
âKris, you came to see me,â Karen breathed in relief. Then, glancing at Linda, she feigned surprise. âLinda...you... youâre here too. I thought you wouldnât bother after everything I said about you.â
Shaking her head, Linda smiled warmly. âDonât worry about it, Karen. Iâm not going to pretend I wasnât shocked or hurt by how you tried to implicate me, but I understand your desperation and why you did it.â
âTha...Thank you,â Karen stuttered before turning back to Kris. âKris, howâs our daughter? My dear Tessa. You donât know how much I miss her. Please tell me youâre here to get me out because I canât stand being away from her for another second.â
Kris was not fooled as he scoffed, âOur daughter is the last reason you want to get out of here, Karen. But even if that were true and you loved her as much as you claim, then you should agree itâs better for her not to grow up around someone as vile as you.â
Karen was pained, looking at him desperately. âI might have made some mistakes, but you know I love our daughter. Iâm sure she misses me too. Sheâs asked about me, hasnât she?â
Remembering the conversation he had with Tessa that morning, Kris couldnât deny it. Karen saw her opportunity to convince him.
âPlease, Kris. Let me go home to my daughter. You probably told her I was busy or something, but are you going to tell that lie to her forever?â
Kris remained unmoved by her manipulation. âIâll figure out what to do in time. I only came here to tell you that now that Thalassa has officially filed charges against you, Iâm going to ensure everything is processed as soon as possible. Youâll be transferred to prison in a few days to await trial.â

Lindaâs eyes narrowed, silently warning Karen to choose her next words very carefully. Karen paused, swallowed, then turned her pleading eyes back to Kris.
âKris, please think of our daughter. How will she feel knowing her mother is in prison? Are you going to bring her to visit me there whenever she wants to see me? Think of how that will traumatize her. I beg you, please donât let me be transferred to prison.
Linda, please help me out.â
With a hard smile, Linda sweetly responded, âDonât worry about it, Karen. You know how much everyone in the house adores Tessa. Weâll all take very good care of her.â
âBut itâs not the same as having her mother with her,â Karen pleaded as tears began streaming down her face.â Kris, I beg you.
Please reconsider. Tessa deserves to grow with me because Iâm her mother.â
Both Karen and Linda held their breaths anxiously as they waited for Krisâs response.
