Chapter 90 “What do you think, Mr. Phoenix? Is this recording enough to nail Linda Miller?” Thalassa asked after playing the recording for her lawyer, who had been recommended by Zeke some time ago.

The lawyer pondered for a moment before letting out a sigh “I’m going to be honest with you, Miss Thompson. The only damage that recording might do is prompt the police to take Linda Miller in for questioning. But unless Karen Blade has substantial evidence that proves that Mrs. Miller is truly responsible for everything, she will not be arrested be arrested.

“She can also, and I’m sure she will, counterclaim that Karen Blade made those accusations against her because part of the recording suggests that you offered her an incentive to free her if she told you the truth about Mrs. Miller.”

“So there’s nothing this recording can do?” Luisa questioned in disbelief.

The lawyer nodded. “I’m afraid so. For now, it’s just Karen Blade’s word against Linda Miller’s. But rest assured, as your lawyer, I’ll do everything within my power to bring about the best outcome.”

“Okay, thank you, Mr. Phoenix,” Thalassa said, her voice calm despite the storm brewing inside her.

“I’ll walk you to the door,” Luisa offered as the lawyer stood up.

As soon as the door closed behind the lawyer, Thalassa couldn’t hold back the harsh sounds trapped in her throat.

“Damn her! Damn her! Damn her!” She raged as she slammed her fist onto her oak desk.

Luisa was concerned and instantly rushed to Thalassa’s side. “Lassa, I know you’re upset, but please calm down.”

“How can I calm down, Luisa?” Thalassa demanded. “How can I calm down when that woman keeps getting away with everything?”

Luisa looked at her with sympathy, understanding the pain she was going through. “She won’t get away with it forever, Lassa. I’m sure justice will be served soon.” 1 Before Thalassa could say anything else, there was a knock on the door, and Millie entered.

“Hey,” she greeted jovially but paused when she saw that her spirit didn’t match the gloomy energy in the room. ” What’s wrong?”

Luisa did, telling Millie about Thalassa’s recording, Kris’s pleas for forgiveness, how he refused to believe his mother was responsible for anything that happened to Thalassa, and what the lawyer had just told them.

“Even after everything, he still refuses to believe Thalassa, Luisa fumed.

Millie shook her head in disagreement. “But Luisa, we’re not just talking about any random person. We’re talking about his mother, the woman who gave birth to him, loved and raised him. How do we expect him to just believe his mother is capable of such awful things, especially when we don’t even have any evidence to prove it? I think we should give him some time.”

Luisa stared at Millie incredulously, but Thalassa chose not to say anything, prompting Millie to continue.

“Thalassa, do you remember the exact spot you were attacked? Do you think there were any CCTV cameras that could at least help us identify the man who attacked you?”

“He had his face covered. No part of him was visible, not even his hands,” Thalassa answered.

“But still, perhaps-”

Thalassa shot to her feet, gritting out, “He should have shown that he cares by having his mother arrested, but he didn’t do that, so I don’t need anything else from him. I will seek justice on my own.”

Millie knew she was pushing it, but she couldn’t help voicing her opinion. “Lassa, aren’t you being too hard on Kris? After all, he’s not just sitting idle. He never did. He verified every piece of evidence against you, even though he was deceived, and he had Karen arrested for your sake. Isn’t that something?”

“For my sake?” Thalassa nearly laughed. “And what am I supposed to do, Millicent? Am I supposed to be grateful to him for finally doing the right thing, which he should have done years ago?” 1 Seeing the rage and disappointment in Thalassa’s eyes, Millie was lost for words, not knowing what else to say.

Thalassa dragged in a deep breath to calm herself. “You need to decide whether you’re on Kris’s side or mine, Millicent. I’m getting tired of you always trying to defend him.”

With that, she rounded her desk and calmly walked out of the office. Just as she stepped out, a familiar voice called out.
