Chapter 93 Chapter 93 +25 BONUS “What is taking her so long?” Kris gritted out to Alden, who was sitting in the visitor chair next to him.

“Forgive me if I sound too smart, but since this is a hospital, she’s probably attending to some patients. Don’t be so impatient,”

Alden mused sarcastically.

Kris glared at him and continued stewing in his impatience. A few minutes later, the door opened, and the doctor in question waltzed into the office.

“Forgive me. There was a complication with a patient that required my attention,” she explained as she walked to take her seat.

Alden smiled smugly at Kris with an I–told–you–so look before turning to the doctor. “It’s alright, Doc. The patients come first.”

“Thank you.” The doctor smiled gratefully, then looked at Kris. “Mr. Miller, how might I help you?”

“You’re the doctor who took care of Thalassa, aren’t you?” he asked, his serious expression and tone making her nervous.

“Yes,” she answered.

She didn’t need to ask who he was talking about since his private investigator had been there a few weeks ago to make inquiries about whether the attack on Thalassa had been real.

Kris didn’t waste any time. “I want details of the exact location where my wife was picked up by the ambulance on the day she was attacked.”

“Exact location?”

“Yes,” Kris reiterated. “The exact spot where she was picked up. GPS coordinates. I need them all. I know all those records are saved for at least six years.”

The doctor bit her lip thoughtfully. “That’s right... to some extent. I can pull up the record and give you the location–the area, neighborhood, and street address–but unfortunately, we don’t note down exact GPS locations.”

“But if it’s any help, she was found just some distance from an alley on the street,” the doctor quickly added as if to appease him.

Seeing the doctor was a bit nervous, Alden decided to take over the conversation. “Thank you very much, Doc. That information would be very helpful. But we need it right now.”

“Alright, please excuse me. I’ll be right back,” she said before getting up and leaving the office.

Once she was gone, Alden rolled his eyes, looking at Kris. “Do you really have to look so unapproachable? You’re too ugly for her, so trust me, she’s not trying to hit on you.

When Kris didn’t so much as crack a smile, Alden sighed. Kris had never been the fun kind of guy, but it had gotten progressively worse in the past few years. But could he really blame him? Nothing seemed to be going right for him over those years.

He was about to say something when Kris’s phone cut him off. Pulling his phone out of his pocket and looking at the screen, Kris froze at the caller ID.

He didn’t have Thalassa’s number, but the security on his phone immediately picked up her name. His heart raced inside his chest. He didn’t know why she was calling, but the fact that she’d even bothered to call him meant more to him than anyone could imagine.

“La... Thalassa. It’s good to hear from you.”

He tried to keep his voice as neutral as possible so that she wouldn’t detect how overly excited he was. However, her next words fizzled all of his excitement.

“I want you to have the charges against Karen dropped,”

Kris tensed, and he didn’t speak for a few seconds, waiting for her to repeat herself. Because surely, there was no way he’d heard her right.

“What did you say?” he finally asked when she didn’t speak “You heard me. I want Karen released.”

Kris’s head spun. “You want Karen released? Why?” His nostrils flared. “Are you being threatened? Is that it? ‘Who’s threatening you?”

“Nobody is threatening me,” her voice came, impatiently.

“Have you forgiven her?”

“Who is talking about forgiveness? I know I’m not,” Thalassa stated.

“Then why? Why would you want her released after everything she did to you? Everything she did to u-”

“You said it right. She did it to ‘me,‘ so I decide how it should be handled.”

Kris shook his head bitterly. “I’m sorry, but that child you lost was mine too. You can’t just make the decision to have their murderer released from jail. I thought you wanted justice for our child.”

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Why had she changed her mind so suddenly? How could she even ask him to let Karen out of jail?

“You’re right. I want justice. You’re the one who’s allowing our child’s murderer to walk around freely like she’s an angel,” she gritted out from the other end.

Kris blew out a breath. “You’ve allowed Karen to poison your mind so much against my mother. That was how she was able to convince you to let her out, isn’t it? Why can’t you understand that she’s manipulating you to try and deflect blame from herself onto my mother?”

“I didn’t call you to argue with you because I have my facts straight. The only person who’s being deceived here is you.” She paused. “Just do as I’ve asked.”

Kris shook his head firmly. “No. I’m sorry, but I won’t do it. I don’t know why you suddenly changed your mind, but I’m not going to allow our child’s death to go unpunished, nor all the other things Karen did to you!”

“That’s fine. I’ll take care of it myself,” she said, and before he could say anything else, the line went dead.

Kris fisted his phone so tightly that he heard a crack, though he didn’t bother to look at the screen.

“Thalassa wants Karen to be released from jail?” Alden inquired in bewilderment after Kris ended the call.

Kris nodded, his teeth gritted bitterly. How could Thalassa show Karen such mercy when she refused to even understand him? It hurt so much.

“And you refused?”
