1019 Since When Did Mom Like to Play Matchmaker?

Lu Jingye came over slightly after three in the afternoon.

The twins were brought back to the Lu residence.

When the car reached the vicinity of Metropolis University, Zi Yi looked out the window casually. She suddenly said in surprise, “Isn’t that Cousin Zerui’s car? What’s he doing here?”

Lu Jingye looked over. He was about to say perhaps Dou Zerui had something to attend to at Metropolis University when Dou Zerui drove in another direction.

“Hmmm? Isn’t Cousin Zerui driving toward the staff residential area?”

“Maybe he’s sending someone there.”

Zi Yi felt he made sense and said, “Shall I give him a call? We can leave together after he’s done.”

“Ok.”

Zi Yi called Dou Zerui.

Dou Zerui was driving. Initially, he was about to answer the phone using the car speakers, but he suddenly glanced at Situ Qin and said, “Little Qin, can you help me answer the phone.”

His phone was placed in the box in between them. Situ Qin took the phone and looked at the caller ID.

“Who is it?”

“It’s Doctor Zi.”

Situ Qin handed the phone to him as she spoke.

“Is it my cousin? In that case, help me answer it. Tell her I’m driving and see what she wants. If it’s nothing important, I can call her back later.”

In reality, Dou Zerui had other things in mind when he said this. He wanted Zi Yi to know he was with Situ Qin now.

Situ Qin felt a little embarrassed to answer the phone. She held the phone for some time without sliding to answer it.

Dou Zerui laughed softly and said, “Don’t you dare to answer a call from her?”

“That’s not it.” Situ Qin could not put her finger on it, but it felt weird to answer the phone.

Dou Zerui did not give her the chance to say no. “If you don’t answer the phone, it’s going to automatically cut off soon. When she asks about it, I’ll just tell her you didn’t dare to answer it.”

Situ Qin: “…”

Situ Qin eventually answered the phone and said in a gentle tone, “Hi, Doctor Zi.”

After hearing the voice, it took Zi Yi a good three seconds before she realized who it belonged to. She promptly connected the dots. She smiled and asked, “What’s my cousin doing now? Why didn’t he answer the phone after so long?”

“Mr. Dou is driving the car. He asked if the call was urgent. If this can wait, he’ll call you back later.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Zi Yi said, “Don’t bother. You can help me pass a message. Tell him we’re at the university’s east gate. Ask him if he wants to go together later.”

Situ Qin passed the message on to Dou Zerui.

Dou Zerui nodded and said loudly, “Okay. Give me a minute. Let me drop Little Qin off first.”

Situ Qin did not want to trouble him, so she said, “Why don’t you just drop me off here? It’s not far from school, so I can walk back.”

“How could I?” Dou Zerui smiled and said, “You work for me now. As a good boss, it’s only right for me to send you home. This is basic courtesy.”

He proceeded to say loudly to the phone, “See you, Cousin Yiyi.”

After hanging up the phone, Zi Yi smiled brightly and said to Lu Jingye, “I finally understand why Cousin Zerui refuses to admit he’s single anymore. From the looks of it, he has found a target.”

Lu Jingye nodded and said, “Ms. Situ is from a good family, so she’s a good choice.”

“Uh huh.”

After waiting for 20 minutes, Dou Zerui arrived.

The two cars drove towards the city one after another.

When they got to the Lu residence, Mrs. Lu was already waiting there. The moment she saw Dou Zerui getting out of the other car, she enthusiastically welcomed him into the villa to take a seat.

Dou Zerui smiled and thanked her.

After placing the twins in their crib, Zi Yi and Lu Jingye went upstairs to get changed.

Mrs. Lu and Dou Zerui sat there looking at the twins as they chatted casually.

As Zi Yi and Lu Jingye walked downstairs, they could hear Mrs. Lu asking, “Are you seeing anyone? Your mother keeps saying you aren’t looking hard enough. I think you should find someone for yourself. Do you need me to introduce you to any girls?”

Zi Yi said softly to Lu Jingye, “Since when did Mom like to play matchmaker?”

Lu Jingye smiled. “Perhaps Second Aunt keeps talking about it, so my mother took note of it and got worried.”

Dou Zerui did not expect someone to urge him to find a girl at the Lu residence. Usually, he would have doubts about himself on hearing this. However, he replied calmly this time, “Thanks for your concern. I already met someone I like. If everything goes smoothly, I think I can convince her to be my girlfriend in a month or so.”

“Oh really? That’s great.” Mrs. Lu felt happy for his family. “From the looks of it, your family has one more thing to be happy about this year.”

Dou Zerui smiled sheepishly.

Zi Yi choked in and said, “It really depends on whether Cousin Zerui can convince Situ Qin to marry him in a year.”

A look of confidence emerged on Dou Zerui’s face. “That goes without saying. Don’t forget to give me a big gift then.”

“Don’t forget you have to give us three big fat red packets. Otherwise, Guoguo, Tangtang, and I aren’t going to be happy.”

Dou Zerui had put in a huge bet during the car race, so he was loaded now. “No problem.”

When Zi Yi and Lu Jingye walked over, Dou Zerui stood up.

Mrs. Lu said to the two of them, “Have fun later. You don’t have to rush back. If you are back late, I’ll let the twins sleep in my room.”

The moment she heard what Mrs. Lu said, Zi Yi glanced at Lu Jingye and noticed the stern look on his face. She did her best to suppress her laughter.

She nodded to Mrs. Lu. “Okay, Mother.”

They proceeded to leave the villa.

Owen had clearly put in a lot of effort for the banquet tonight. He had booked the most luxurious banquet hall at the renowned, International Garden Restaurant.

Other than Dou Zerui, Dou Yurui also came. She came with Shao Hua. After the five of them met up outside the restaurant, Zi Yi and Dou Yurui walked in together.

As they headed to the door, lots of people greeted them.

Lu Jingye greeted them casually as they walked in.

Dou Yurui said softly to Zi Yi, “I have a feeling Owen is up to something, so I deliberately brought some surgical tools. If he tries anything funny, I’ll slice him up.”

“He would never dare.” Zi Yi continued speaking, “Lots of people are here tonight. Also, Ah Jing and I are around. If he tries anything funny, we will personally break his legs.”

“I was drunk previously, so I didn’t know. Otherwise, I would have broken his third leg for taking me to a hotel.”

The moment they got to the door, Owen came out to welcome them.

“My esteemed guests, welcome.”

Owen looked very warm and friendly. He greeted everyone courteously as he invited them to go in.

It seemed as though nothing had happened and he was not going to bring it up tonight.
