The Alpha & Beta’s Regret – Chapter 103

Rafe POV

He’d watched Jack leave the Alpha bar, and return a few minutes later, looking more than pleased with himself. That man had set himself a plan and was following it through. Rafe walked into his office and sat down, mind-linked to the gate guard to not let anyone through at all, regardless of rank or pack affiliation, without consulting him or Jack first.

Then pulled up the alliance agreement with Wolf Valley Pack and Alpha Colby, and null and voided it.

He was interrupted by a mind-link from Melissa ‘Father needs ten thousand dollars.’

‘Does he now?’

‘Yes, send it to him right now.’

‘Hmm,’ he looked at the contract in his hands. ‘No. I’m not going to.’ He cut the mind-link to her and smiled to himself. Yes, let’s see you try and get me to pay that bloody witch or whoever it is in that pack to try again to get control of me. Not going to happen.

Was printing it out when she connected with him once more ‘Rafe. Her tone was much softer when she said his name now, hadn’t even bothered a moment ago, just made demands of him. Likely hadn’t had to make an effort before now, she would have asked and he’d just done before, not so much now.

‘Melissa.’ He stated flatly.

There was silence for a long time and he could feel not only uncertainty, but annoyance starting to form ‘Jack is out of control.’

‘Is he?’ he smiled to himself, knew she would likely feel it through the link, didn’t really care ‘I believe he’s just trying to mate Maria, what is wrong with that, it’s not like they haven’t done it before. Have been mated for over 6 years now.’ He replied ‘What did you do to me?’ he asked once more.

‘I didn’t do anything to you.’ she stated, sounding more than annoyed now ‘you just hit your head during s*x. You must have gotten yourself a concussion.’

Rafe shook his head ‘Really, in that piss pour five minute f**k, that I did not enjoy.’ He shot at her ‘I highly doubt it.’

He felt all anger now coming down the line at him ‘Maria and I will be going home in the morning.’ She snapped.

‘Good luck with that.’

‘What is that supposed to mean?’

‘Your punishment will be dealt out in the morning. Allen is coming up to get you first thing after breakfast. The pack and, I mean the entire pack, wants you punished, your sister too. So, I will be doing that.’

‘I’m the Luna, you can’t punish me, the alliance with my father clearly states, you have to show me respect and protect me from harm.’

‘Hmm, it does…but it doesn’t state anywhere in there that I can’t punish you, and I am going to. Oh, by the way, my parents will be returning tomorrow. So mother and father might just want to weigh in themselves on what you did. They are pack elders now.’

‘This is ridiculous, I did what any Luna would do, to a threat to my position inside the pack.’

‘And what threat would that be?’ he asked.

‘That b***h of a concubine back inside this pack.’

A massive snarl ripped right out of him at the insult to Luci. They’d also never called Luci their concubine, had referred to her as their lover. ‘She was of no threat to you, didn’t want to be in the packhouse, was happy living outside it till you did that. Now is here inside the packhouse. You might want to keep to your room, Alpha Addison is pure-blooded and has held Luna’s rank twice over now. Luci is also a pure-blooded Alpha, if either of them come across you. I can only imagine a fight will ensue, and I don’t think you’ll win. Both of them outrank even me.’ He cut the link.

Wanted to stalk out of this office and up there to that room and drag that she-wolf down here for the torturing, but couldn’t risk that she didn’t have more of those blasted petals in that room up there and he was damned certain, likely keeping them on her. She knew they had worked on him.

The more he was away from her, the closer he bonded to Jack and now, holding onto the knowledge that he loved Luci, that Solar would have let him Mark the girl as well. The less he wanted anything to do with Melissa, their bond, whatever it was, what she had done to him was failing now. He’d been right having Luci inside this pack was interfering in what they did to them.

He put pen to paper on that voided alliance and walked it into Jack, handed him the pen and saw Jack glance at it, then just nod and sign it. Smiled at him and Rafe went right back to his office, to fax it over to the Wolf Valley Pack.

It was only 8pm, someone should get it right away. He sat and waited for his phone to ring. If it would, if they were in the know about the spell not working, that man would be calling to have his daughters sent back.

It took 30 minutes for his phone to ring. The caller ID stated WVP, he smiled and picked it up “Alpha Rafe, speaking.”

“Son, what is wrong? What is going on there?”

“Don’t call me son, Colby. Not after what your daughter did to me.”

“She’s terribly upset, Rafe, called and told me she’s under house arrest. What is that all about?” he questioned, looked like the man was going to play this as he knew nothing.

“She’s not under house arrest, and may move freely anywhere she likes. Jack might mate her though.” He snorted.

“What?”

“Seems that the new perfume both girls are wearing has him and his beast all riled up, is attracting them with a vengeance. I’m staying out of it.”

“You can’t let the Beta mate the Luna.” Colby shot at him.

“Why not? It’s what both Jack and I want. I would quite enjoy watching, in fact.” He stated calmly, this was not the first time the man had heard it.

“It’s wrong put a stop to it.”

“No.” Rafe stated simply, “it’s about time I think that Jack and I get what we want from this relationship.”

“You let that man touch my daughter, it’ll be war.”

“Hmm, you and what army?” He laughed now, couldn’t help it. “As for ending our alliance, that is because your daughter committed treason against her Alpha.”

“What? How did she? She loves you, would never actually harm you.”

“Really? Never harm me?” What a freaking joke.

‘No, she would not, can’t. She is all upset and distressed, told me you attacked her.”

“I did not. Though I did suffer from complete memory loss last night. Thankfully, Jack, Allen and Ian were all able to remind me that your daughter set fire to a pack member’s house, and that before I lost my memory of that event, I was going up there to confront her.”

“It’s not true, just go up there and talk to her, go yourself, clear the air son. It can be worked out, she’s your Goddess Gifted Mate after all. A precious thing bestowed upon you by Selena herself.”

“I don’t really think that is going to save her. It’s treason to attack the Alpha, and I believe that’s just what she did.”

“You’re being utterly ridiculous. If you’re going to be like this, I’ll just come and get her.”

“You could try. Our alliance is over now. You’ll not make it inside the pack. She is mine to punish as I see fit. You do know how to punish for treason, right?”

“You touch my daughter and.”

“and what?” Rafe grated out “Your pack is small, tiny, in fact just 200, and from what I heard from Titan, not one single upgrade at all. So just where did all that money I’ve sent you over the years go to?” he questioned the man.

“What I do with money you freely and willingly give to me is my business.” Colby stated and disconnected the call.

Rafe put the phone down. He didn’t like being questioned any more than his daughter did. But now he also knew that he couldn’t come and get his daughters, not with their ties severed also knew they were going to be deemed traitors and likely to die.

Rafe sat and wondered how long it would take for those two upstairs to try and bolt from this pack. Their lies were out, their safety no longer guaranteed. He was certain their father was right this minute ringing them, pulled on that tether that was Melissa, she was still currently upstairs.

He mind-linked to Jack ‘Might want to put yourself in the Alpha hallway, we are severed from Wolf Valley and I told Colby he couldn’t come and get his daughter because I was going to punish them as traitors.’

‘Daughter?’ Jack returned curiously.

‘Curious, isn’t it, only made mention of Melissa.’

‘Very. On my way up there now. Do you think Maria will stay with Melissa not here?’

‘Unlikely, not with you and Flare playing the aggressive hunt to mate game with her.’

He heard Jack chuckle softly ‘She’s terrified.’

‘Teach them to play with us first.’ Rafe smiled ‘Is Luna Jo-anne back yet?’

‘Yes, West and Terence have turned in for the night and Bradley and Cooper are heading up now as well.’

‘They’ve had a very long day.’ Rafe nodded ‘I’ll meet you upstairs shortly.’

He closed up the office and checked that there was nothing amiss out with the wolves’ patrol around Luci’s house. All was well. Checked the list of punishment for Melissa and Maria, not much had been added. A week in the cells for both of them. Cuffed with silver for Melissa, but that was it. There were, however, lots of score marks next to the shaming post and the week in the cells.

She was their Luna and it appeared that the pack didn’t want actual harm to come to her. Put that she did need to be punished, that they thought she was wrong. But no physical harm to come to her. He wondered what the pack would think if they knew what those two had been doing to him and Jack for the past six and a half years.

He walked up the stairs to the Alpha floor, Jack was casually sitting on a chair in the hallway, smiled right at him. “They took one look at me and banged that door shut.” He chuckled.

“I don’t want you out here all night though. You barely got any sleep last night.”

“Neither did you.”

Rafe nodded, but knew that sleepless nights were what they were both in for, over the next few days, possibly weeks. Once they had sorted out these two she-wolves, they still had to deal with Victor. A war it was and he knew it. He wanted the least number of casualties for all involved. He would honestly love to knock that man off without a war. But had yet to think of a way to do so.

He didn’t want war, didn’t want Bradley and West to loose men of their own either. When he took war to Victor, and he knew he was going to. There were going to be losses on all sides. Perhaps he should have West and Bradley send only wolves that volunteer, for the risk was high that many lives would be lost.

They still didn’t know the exact number of rogues Victor commanded, how close they were to the Bloodless Moon, how long it would take to have them turn up and bolster Victor’s ranks, or attack them from behind.

Then there was the way that he trained his men, all attacking like Alpha Units. He had been training his men in the same manner before Luci had been found and brought back to the pack. Now Allen, Ian, Petra and Titan were in charge of that.

All of their warriors were being trained harder and in rotating shifts, even his border patrollers got the training, so they could come together and defend themselves at the borders better. Giving them a real fighting chance to survive if Victor came back, survive long enough for back up to arrive.
