The Alpha & Beta’s Regret – Chapter 144
The Alpha & Beta's Regret
Jo-anne POV
It was hard for her to get through the dinner which she had requested, had opted for 5pm as early as was possible because she wanted to get in and help Piper and her wolf.
Who she had now learned was named Harper. That had made her smile, also made Clova feel happy, really happy at that.
Her wolf liked that Piper had incorporated her wolfâs name into her own, in their human life, she changed her name to Piper Harper. It had actually made Clova purr all loudly at the woman, loud enough that everyone in the room heard it, and surprised the entire table and Jo-anne had to explain her wolfâs happiness.
That it made Clova feel as though Piper and Harper were of one mind and being, much the same as she and Jo-anne were at times when they united as one. Clova liked this little bit of kinship towards them, or that was how she felt anyway.
She now understood that the pendant could not come off of Piper, but could not actually see past the charm to the old magic behind it. The only way to do that was going to be to get Piper to willingly take it off and set it aside so she could see the original magic attached to her wolf.
Knew that Bradley was not going to allow that at all, so she had to find out more about it first. Asked âMay I enquire what that charm is needed for?â
âNo,â Bradley stated simply.
Jo-anne frowned at him, âIâm not going to tell anybody, and all here in this room are allied to you,â she indicated to West and T.J. âThey will also not tell anyone.â
âI donât care,â Bradley stated flatly.
âI am a very good healer, blessed by the Goddess herself, Bradley. I want to help, but in order to do so, I need to understand what is going on.â
She stared right at him, wasnât about to back down, not even when he stared right back at her. Piper, his own Mate was in pain, as was her wolf, and Jo-anne was not leaving this room, until she helped them, or at least was allowed to try and help Piper and Harper. He could try and stare her down all he liked. It was not going to work, she was not going to back down.
It was Piper that broke the silence in the end, âBrad, they are all allied and all mated.â She murmured, âIf there is even a tiny possibility Jo-anne could help. Iâd like to try it, so would Harper.â
âPiper, you know you canât take that pendant off.â
âWell, actually I can, Annabell stated that mated males are able to resist.â
âNo, I donât want to risk it.â Brad shook his head.
âOkay, then I can go into another room, with you all out here. It doesnât affect women,â Piper told him gently but firmly. It seemed her mind was made up. She wanted to risk it, see if they could be healed
âI donât like it Piper. Itâs still a big risk.â
âWhat is the risk?â Jo-anne asked, interrupting them, though that statement. She now knew it only affected males, unmated males at that. Knew that charm was protective in manner, was in fact she now realised protecting Piper and Harper from unmated males.
âI donât think Jo-anne can fix this Piper.â Bradley sighed and looked right at Jo-anne, âI donât mean to offend you, but the Whitlockâs have been looking for a way to remove this from themselves for centuries, as is my understanding. I doubt hundreds of years of research, verse you and your healing ability of whatâ¦three and a half years, can help.â
Jo-anne smiled at him, she understood where he was coming from, âYou could look at it that way.â She nodded â or you could have faith in the gift the Goddess bestowed upon me. Iâve been helping things heal since I was like 2 years old, and Iâm not just any witch.â
She heard West clear his voice, to halt her words and put a hand on him âNo, West. I think some real trust is needed here.â She looked at West and knew he was worried about her linage getting out. Smiled at him gently before turning back to Bradley and Piper, âWe are allied, and I will trust them, like I want them to trust me.â She told West âHow about,â She addressed Brad mostly, âI tell you something in complete confidence about myself, that only a handful of people know.â
The room was quiet and she took in a slow breath, this was going to out her and make her accept her true linage. â
My full title, is not just Luna Jo-anne or even Princess Jo-anne of the royal wolfen kingdom. I am the Queen of the light witches. Long ago abandoned by its own kind due to my father turning to the dark side. I am very powerful and healing pain is something I must do. It is not really a choice for me, I canât stand to see anyone in pain. Rafe and Jack, Luciâ she sighed. âI want desperately to help them, but am not allowed. Their own witches, who are my aunts, royal triplet light witches themselves, my biological fatherâs, own sisters. They are old, likely ancient and they see a lot. Are I believe in communication with Selena herself.â She shook her head, did actually believe that âGet given guidance by Selena where her wolves are concerned.
It was not I that asked for Piper to come here, but Hannah herself, I believe. It was Hannah who told me, before Piper came here, there was another I needed to help.â Her eyes moved from Brad to Piper.
âI understand it is you she wants
me to try and help. I also want to try. But for me to do that I need to see you and your wolf without that charm on you.
Jo-anne sat and waited as they all absorbed the news sheâd just imparted to them, watched as Bradley sighed a few minutes later, his eyes moved about the room, looked at Cooper, West and T.J. âI will not allow that pendant to come off with males in the room, not even myself. I will not risk Piper coming to harm, even in the slightest. Butâ¦â he sighed once more âIf Piper agrees and wants to try, I will not stop her, it is her decision in the end. Can only be her call to make.â
Jo-anne looked at Piper now, she was looking at Bradley watched her touch his hand. âIf there is a chance, even a small one. I want to try it. Perhaps if it works we could discuss the entire bloodline being healed, not just me. It canât hurt to try Brad, not really, all that can happen is that it will or wonât work.â
âPiper..â she watched as Brad touched her face softly; lovingly, and she knew it.
âWe, Harper and I, wonât get our hopes up. But we both want to see if she can help. Iâll trust her with this as she has just entrusted us with who she really is.â
âJust Jo-anne,â he murmured.
Piper nodded, âI understand your concern.â Then she turned and looked at Jo-anne, âYou and I only. It will make Brad more comfortable. We can use he and Iâs bedroom. Itâs sound proof, therefore safe for me in there as well.â
Jo-anne nodded âAlright, wherever you like.â She moved her eyes to Bradley âI will not harm her or your unborn daughter either.â
His eyes widened a little, but that was all.
She followed Piper into the bedroom and closed the door, â This might take some explaining to you.â Piper sighed.
âNot really, Iâm a seer Piper. If you yourself, your wolf Harper, donât want to relive anything of your past, I only need a drop of your b***d and Iâll see what I need to of your past as well as your wolfs bloodline. Just need to focus on that, to find out what I need to know to try and help you.
If I can help you.â
âYouâre that powerful?â
âYes, it seems it.â she smiled a little as she sank down on the bed next to Piper herself âCan I see that charm, weâll start with that. Itâs also imbued with magic.â
Heard her sigh âIâve never taken it off, not since I was 10.â Watched her take a moment for herself, âIâm afflicted Jo-anne, am highly scentable to unmated male wolves, I always smell like I am in heat to them. this charm stops my scent is all. I smell like nothing and no one with it on.â
Jo-anne stared at her now. âIt makes you unscentable, to those around you.â
âYes,â she sighed heavily, âto all, not just wolves. To any that rely on their sense of smell to recognise others. I was unscentable until Bradley marked me, and now.â
âYou smell like him, I know. Thought that was a bit odd, I understand it now. Part of the charm, I imagine.â
She watched Piper slip that necklace up and over her head, saw the chain simply expand and then shrink back down, the entire thing was imbued with magic, it seemed, to protect it from breaking during shifting she imagined. Neat little enchantment.
Took it from Piper when she handed it to her and the moment it was out of her hands she could smell it or sense it somehow. That the curse was indeed ancient, a curse on her wolfâs bloodline, she understood now why she was here, because she also recognised the magic itself, it felt more than familiar to her. She focused on that and knew it was Merrick, her own father, who was the original owner of the spell.
Pipers Wolfâs bloodline was cursed by her own familyâs bloodline. âIâm sorry.â She sighed heavily herself now âHe truly was a monster.â
âWho?â Piper frowned right at her.
âThe warlock that cursed your linage.â She shook her head.
Her father really was a sick evil bastard and though shed known it, hadnât considered just how evil he had become. â May I have a drop of your b***d, I donât think you want to see what Iâm about to learn. To be honest with you, I donât even know if I want to know how evil he was.â And she didnât, not really. She already knew what heâd done to her own mother, in order to just make herself.
âIf your past is filled with pain and suffering, and you donât want to relive it, this way is better.â
âBradleyâ¦â Piper sighed heavily.
âWas like all the rest, couldnât scent you out.â Jo-anne understood, and also knew that Piper had been missing for a very long time. That Brad had to search for her and then actively hunt her, even when he found her, she had run away once more. He had used Westâs own private jet to retrieve her from Australia a few years ago. Had to convince her to be with him even. âDonât relive that Piper. I can already feel pain coming from you, just thinking about having to relive it, the years he didnât know what you were to him, but you likely knew what he was. Just let me see it.â
Piper nodded, âI donât really want to relive it. It nearly killed Harper and I.â Watched Piper prick her own finger with one of Harpers claws and then offer her the drop of b***d.
Jo-anne took the b***d on her own finger, looked at it for a long moment, in that one drop of b***d was not likely only all of Pipers pain, but her wolfs linage as well. needed a minute to prepare herself for what she knew was to come.
Looked at Piper after a moment, âIf I can fix it, I will.
Though itâs on your wolfâs bloodline, not you specifically Piper.â
âWe are one and the same,â Piper nodded simply. âWhat is hers is mine, and what is mine is hers.â
