The Alpha & Beta’s Regret – Chapter 26
The Alpha & Beta's Regret
Luci POV
Luci woke up to find those deep dark blue eyes of Alpha Rafe looking right down at her, not Victor as sheâd expected, her heart was hammering inside of her chest. She did not know if it was because she was in his lap and he was holding her, or if it was because she was suddenly super wired and wide awake. She felt really weird inside of her own body, everything about her felt jacked up and as if she was moving super fast.
Her attention was drawn by her son Rafeâs voice âMamma, Jack.â It was so filled with concern and pain, her head snapped around and she saw Rafe standing at the end of a gurney-type bed. A hand on his twin brother. He was filled with worry, she could see it and Alari could feel it. Her eyes moved to little Jack and they could tell he was unconscious from the slackness of his body, he was all limp and his little mouth was open. Alari shot forward in an instant.
Was over him in a flash, sensing what was wrong with their son, could feel his pain, well sensed it, to the left side of his head, could see the bruising to his face where someone had struck him, had hurt their precious child.
Took in a deep breath and let it out all slowly, aimed her Siren call right at his injury, raising the frequency of it to 528Hz so it could act as a catalyst to help heal Jackâs wound. He had mild swelling and likely a concussion. She had healed little wounds on the boys before, used this very frequency to bring about reduced pain levels and inflammation.
Knelt by the side of that gurney and continued to heal him, until his eyes flickered and then leaned back to see his beautiful dark green eyes open and look right at her. Felt relief flood through all three of them at seeing him wake up, then to hear his voice; a blessing, he was going to be alright.
She had no idea what had happened after Victor attacked them, but that man knew what she was. Had been wearing some sort of hearing protection to protect himself from Alariâs Siren call. Which meant he now not only knew who Luci was, and where she was, but what she was as well. Not a good thing, likely now also knew about the twins.
Listened to her boys talk about little Rafe saving her, noticed that he was not in his school uniform anymore, as little Jack was, âGot his first shift.â Alari told them.
It was the only explanation Luci could come up with as well. âWe missed it.â Kali whined, saddened that they hadnât been there for it, to support their boys through their first shift, and hadnât seen them in their wolfen form.
Alari took both their hands and demanded Beta Jack move out of her way, looked at Alpha Rafe when he stated it wasnât safe out there, wanted to take them back to the pack. Hissed right at him, all her Siren for him to hear and see. She knew it would be safer inside the pack, of course it would. They had always known that. Theyâd just not been comfortable with going back. Well, Luci and Kali hadnât. Alari didnât really care either way. Her walking away with her boys was her need to be with them, stay close to them and make sure they were okay. She wanted to go home.
Alari didnât feel herself, wasnât feeling alright at all, none of them were feeling themselves when she thought about it. Knew that they had been injected with something to bring them around and counteract that tranquilliser, Victor had shot them with. Their heart rate was rapid and Alari was feeling anxious and irritable. She didnât want to hurt anyone and needed to be away from all people right this minute, needed to get it out of her system, whatever it was that they had done to her.
She was having trouble with too much light, felt like everything around her was too bright and it was hurting her eyes. She stepped into the forest path and felt her eyes not hurt so much, as they walked from full morning sunlight into the dappled light of the forest.
They knew one of the female pack members was following along behind them, turned and looked right at her, the woman stopped walking, smiled at her gently, friendly it seemed âPetra.â Luci told Alari, âAlpha Rafeâs cousin, and one of his elite warriors.â
Her eyes moved to behind the woman, both Alpha Rafe and Beta Jack were walking this way as well. Both were watching her, hissed at them all, then shot down the mind-link right at their Alpha âWhat did you do to us?â
âA shot of adrenaline, to wake you up.â She was informed.
Alari snarled right at them, and cut the mind-link, did not like the feeling that was coursing through her body, it was unnatural. Turned and walked off up the woodland path, both her boys with her all the way to their hut and ushered them inside, stalked around until the effects of the adrenaline fully wore off.
Then and only then did she relinquish control back to Luci. Both little Rafe and little Jack were sitting on the bed just watching her. Luci sank down in front of them once in control, looked right at them, touched both their faces and then just hugged them to her. âIâm sorry boys.â She murmured.
âWhat happened mamma?â they both asked her.
How did she go about telling them, that her own stepfather had once tried to give her to that man, a long time ago, and that he still believed she was his, had come to take her away, sighed heavily âThat man,â she knew they had seen him seeing as little Rafe had saved her âHe wants me to be the Luna to his pack. I didnât want that.â She answered instead.
âHe didnât know about us.â They both said after a minuteâs contemplation.
âNo, he did not.â Her eyes moved from one to the other. âWhat did happen out there with the two of you today?â she asked.
âJack used his Siren call, heâs so powerful mamma. He broke windows.â Rafe giggled and hugged his twin. Saw just how proud he was of his twin, but little Jack just looked at little Rafe and huffed, annoyed it seemed âAstral emerged when Jack got hit by that man.â
âAstral?â
âMy Siren-wolf.â He nodded up at her.
âI didnât get mine.â Little Jack muttered, he seemed very annoyed about it.
âYou will.â Luci smiled at him gently, probably would have if not for being struck by Victor, and rendered unconscious by him. Her eyes moved to the bruising on the right side of his face, it was already fading away. It was highly likely he had his Siren-wolf too. Only hadnât fully emerged due to the blow heâd taken âDoes he have a name?â
âSpark.â Little Jack nodded âHeâs angry mamma, said he should have come when Astral did.â
âHe did, he had too, for you to use your Siren call. He just didnât shift is all.â She reassured him.
Saw him think about it, then stated a minute later âCan we shift now?â
âMight want to wait on thatâ¦just a little bit.â She reassured him that it wouldnât be long, knew that both Alpha Rafe and Beta Jack were outside right this minute. That she was going to have to at some point talk to them. Her Alpha was right, they were no longer safe here outside the pack, not now that Victor knew who and what she was. Had seen her boys too. He would want all three of them for his own sick twisted needs.
âMamma?â both boys touched her face.
Her eyes moved right to them. âI know.â She nodded âI just need a minute.â She told them. They knew who their fathers were by instinct. Sheâd never told them, but they knew, likely always felt some sort of connection to them. Seeing as they too were technically pack members, she had not severed herself from the pack, which technically meant they were born as pack members.
It did make her curious as to whether her Alpha and Beta had some sort of knowledge about the twins themselves. Her boys were just as connected to each other as their own fathers were. Probably going to grow up just like them.
Sharing everything, likely to have one Mate between them, later in life, she supposed. Did not relish the thought of going back to the pack and being in front of her Alpha and Betaâs Mates. Though she was a little surprised that they did have one each, perhaps they werenât like her, and able to handle both the Alpha and Betaâs s****l needs.
Who knew, not her that was for sure, had left and stayed away. Did not want to know anything about their mates or what they did with them either, for that matter, if she was totally honest with herself about it.
Kali picked up running footsteps, they were coming fast, felt Kali push to the forefront of her mind and heard her own motherâs voice âRafe, Jack where is she?â sounded very worried to Luci.
She hadnât seen her mother in a very long time, not since her stepfather had given her to Rafe and Jack to be their concubine. Had never gone back to the Nightfall Pack, but she had spoken to her mother often after leaving. All the time over the phone, theyâd still be very close.
Felt both her boyâs hands in hers, it was time, she guessed, she didnât get the chance to step outside with the twins. Saw the door open and then her mother, Addison, was standing right before her, looking right up at her. Tears formed in her eyes and then she just stepped right into the hut and hugged her âMy beautiful girl.â She whispered, âLook at you, all grown up now.â
Luci was all grown up, and her mother had some serious explaining to do about who she really was. Hugged her back though, âyouâre so short.â She murmured.
âYou grew.â Addison chuckled and pulled back to look right up at her, touched Luciâs hair âGot a new look too.â
âI did.â Luci nodded.
Found both her boys tugging at her âMamma?â they both half whispered up at her.
âYes, of course. Boyâs, this is yourâ¦â looked at her mother and had no idea how she wanted to be addressed.
âGrammy.â Addison smiled âIâm your Grammyâ. She knelt down and smiled at both of them, âMy goddess, donât you just look like your fathers.â Reached out her arms and both boys giggled, as she wiggled her fingers in a happy come get a cuddle fashion.
Actually, saw her mother really shiver and then just laugh out loud. âMy goodness,â she hugged them both when they stepped over to her. âYou sound just like your Pappy when you laugh.â
âPappy?â they both asked in unison.
âYes, heâs passed now boys, but you laugh just like he used to, so sweetly.â
Luci knew she must be talking about her actual father, and was saddened a little, knowing he had passed on. But what else could she expect? Her mother was now, and had been for all of Luciâs life, Mated to Orien.
âMakeâs mamma shiver.â
âIt will make everyone shiver. Itâs so beautiful.â Addison stood up and looked at Luci, then sighed softly âThis is why you never came home to me.â
Luci nodded but said nothing. She knew her Alpha and Beta were still outside. It was likely they werenât going anywhere at all, not with their heirs to their pack right here and unprotected, with Victor on the loose out there somewhere.
Was also not about to discuss that in front of her boys. She did know there were going to be a lot of questions, and had no idea if her Alpha and Beta were even mad at her at this point. Could tell them she didnât know she was pregnant when she left, she supposed.
But that would be a lie. Sheâd never lied to them, and it wouldnât sit well with her. Hadnât lied to them about the boys, had just left and didnât return, theyâd never looked for her, as far as she was aware. Had never asked her about pups or anything when they had come home that day. So technically, other than staying away and not coming forward, it was not considered a lie, or at least she didnât think so. She had just safe guarded them from the Lunaâs to their pack. She knew they would not take kindly to bastard heirs, to their pack.
But anything that those two wanted to ask her now would have to wait until the twins were not in the same room as her and them. Waved her mother towards the door, she had no choice but to go out there. They both knew there would be no hiding or keeping the boys from their fathers, not anymore. Luci had no idea how this was going to work or even go down, for that matter.
Stepped outside to find both of them standing together, no real surprise there, about twenty feet away, both sets of eyes fell on her. It was already too much. She turned her eyes away from them, felt her own motherâs hand touch her arm. âCome on, you can walk with me.â
Luci just nodded, they were both still marked. It had not escaped her or Kaliâs attention, she found both boys looking up at her, seemed a little troubled and she realised they could probably sense her pain at seeing their fathers. Tried to smile at them and felt both of them squeeze her hands.
âYou can go and say hello.â She told them softly.
Both of them just stared up at her, then shook their heads as if to say ânoâ. It surprised her a little, she squatted down. âItâs okay, weâre okay with that.â Touched both their little faces, Kali even pushed forward and nodded in agreement at them.
Still, they wouldnât go, but, both it seemed were happy enough to walk between her and their Grammy. Little Jack was holding her hand and little Rafe was holding his Grammyâs. It was a long quiet walk around the lake to the pack. She didnât say much of anything, Alari was quiet even as they walked along behind their Alpha and Beta. Alari turned and looked at Addison through Luciâs eyes many times.
Her mother smiled right back at her each time, it was clear to Luci that Alari was very curious about the woman, seemed to know that it was Alari who was looking at her as well.
âWhatâs your name, daughter?â her mother asked after the third time Alari looked over at her.
âAlari.â Was all she answered.
Addison bowed her head slightly and smiled, âAddi, or Mum, you can call me either if you like my child.â Then they continued to walk towards the pack.
