CHAPTER 56
A Love Reawakened The Alpha’s Regret
Chapter 56
Angelaâs POV
âYouâll bore a hole on that door if you keep staring.
I turned in the direction of the voice and saw it was Mason. Alpha Mason. He had a luggage box with him and his usual signature weird smile on his face.
âI was just staring.â I answered.
I was staring at the artist workshop that had been completed. Even though I tried to take it off my mind after tossing the keys Darius left in one corner of the room, I still couldnât stop staring at it.
I moved away from the door, folded my arms against my chest, and smiled back.
âYouâre leaving.â
âYou can instead go inside the room and see for yourself,
We both said at once. He smiled again, I didnât smile back at him this time.
I shook my head instead. âI donât want to.â
âDarius told me you loved painting. It was the first thing he mentioned about you right after we met,â
I glanced up at him. I was surprised Darius talked about me to him at all.
âYou made that up. Iâm sure he wouldnât talk about me just right after breaking my heart,â
âHe had his reasons,
âReally?â I asked sarcastically.
âTrust me he does. Which is why you both should stop being blockheads, him being the bigger blockhead anyways, and talk about your differences,â
I scoffed. I wasnât about to sit and have a conversation with Darius about what he knew wasnât right.
âYouâre leaving.â I repeated.
âMy pack needs their Alpha and whatâs the use of two Alphas in one pack?â
I shrugged, not having an answer to his question.
âI guess weâll see again,â
âOf course,â
We shook hands firmly like two business professionals. I couldâve hugged him but I felt it was too personal and we didnât know each other enough.
My eyes went back to my name tag hanging on the door of the artistâs workshop.
âAngela?â Mason called.
âYes,â
âThe one person Darius listens to without a fight is you. You do know that, right?â
I faked a smile. âMaybe,â
âMason,
I called out, stopping him in his tracks. I wanted to talk to him about what I might have heard from Halle but I decided against
âHave a safe trip back home,â
Right after my conversation with Darius ended last night, I hadnât seen him all day. Not even when Reina left for school, which was unusual. I didnât want to ask around for him so it wouldnât look as though I wanted him around.
My phone vibrated and I checked the caller ID to see it was Dr Zack. Iâd contemplated calling him a while ago since I had to admit that I needed help. Maybe after all these years, Iâll finally be able to open up to someone about my struggles.
âHello Angela,
âHi, Doc,â
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the line. âCall me Zack, I insist,â
âOkay,â I answered, bouncing on top of one foot.
âIâm in town and I was hoping I could see you before I leave. I might not be around for the next two weeks. If thereâs anything you want to discuss we can do that today if itâs convenient for you,â
âSure,â
I gave him a oneâword answer because I wasnât even sure if I wanted to see him or not. If I said more than one word, I might end up saying the wrong thing.
âWhat time?â
âHow about now?â
âSee you soon, Angela,â
Since I didnât have anything better to do than wait for Darius to either show up or Reina to get back from school, I decided it would be better to see him now. He had no ties to this pack, which meant I could freely talk to him about my problems. without the fear of the whole pack finding out.
I left the house and went to see Dr Zack at his makeshift office. He had a patient and I had to wait for a few minutes to see him.
âGood to see you again, Angela,â
âSame here. I had a nice time yesterday.â
âIt was fun. Howâs your daughter? Reina, right?â
I nodded.
âIâve heard so much about her from your mom. Itâs nice sometimes to listen to these grandparents talk about their adorable grandchildren. Your mom loves her a lot,â
âYes. Iâve learned that these past few months,â
âSo, does that make you feel you shouldnât have hid your daughter from her?â
I smirked. âHonestly, I have no regrets about hiding her. It was the best decision I could make for her,â
âWhy did you leave home, Angela?â
âIâm not here to discuss that,â I shut it down.
He rested more on his sofa and wrote something down in his notepad.
âWhat are you here to talk about?â
âIâm actually here to talk about what happened after I left home. Something Iâd never told anyone about. Iâve been having nightmares about it for years but now, the nightmares are getting worse,â
âDo you think thatâs because you moved back into this pack?â
âProbably. The nightmares got worse recently because someone made me a new artistâs workshop. I want to check it out but I canât get myself to go beyond the door.â
Chapter 56
My voice was already cracking up and I felt as though energy was being sucked out of me.
âItâs like Iâm stuck at the door and I just donât see myself painting anymore,â
âWhat happened to you, Angela?â
I shook my head, scared of telling him exactly what happened. I was afraid that if I did, the monster I was running from would jump out of the walls and grab me.
A lone tear dropped from my eyes and before I could wipe it off with the back of my hand, Zack gave me a tissue paper. He was sitting on the small stool in front of me, his hand resting on my shoulder.
âItâs okay if you donât want to talk about itâ¦â I zoned him out after that.
You could trust him! Itâs his job! You could trust him! I convinced myself.
âI wasâ¦â I bit down on my tongue, interrupting him. âWas sexually assaulted while I was pregnant with my daughter,â
A deep frown creased his forehead and before I could ask him not to feel pity for me while uncontrollable tears ran down my face, the door was pushed open from outside.
It was Darius! His eyes slid to Zackâs hand on my shoulder and I saw his jaws clenched.
He looked as though he was ready to commit his next murder.
