Angelaâs POV
âWhy are you doing this?â Halle asked through gritted teeth. She successfully gained the attention of everyone after that. Brit walked closer to me with her eyebrow raised. She probably wanted to know if I needed her as a backup again. I shook my head.
âWe both know the answer to that, Halle,â
I folded my hand against my chest. I waited for her to do the needful which was as simple as âgetting the hell out of the houseâ. I shouldâve told someone about what I heard from her but I was protecting her without knowing why and that protection caused harm to Darius.
Halle turned to the other doctor who came with her. âIâm really sorry I wonât be able to stay here. I have a patient waiting for me at the hospital. Iâll take over your shift for the next three days. Will that be enough?â
The other doctor accepted and gave her the goâahead.
Right before she left the house, she whispered, âCan we talk outside? Please,â
Reluctantly, I followed her out of the house. We were about a few feet away when I stopped her. I realized she was taking the conversation somewhere else and I didnât trust her enough to go with her.
âI have nothing to say to you, Halle,â
âWe canât talk here. Itâs too dangerous,â
I scoffed. âYouâre the one whoâs too dangerous Halle. You told me about the Resistance or whatever you guys are called and a few days. later, the warehouse was burnt to the ground and Darius almost died because of an explosion,â
She grabbed my hand all of a sudden. âI swear to you Angela, Iâm not a part of the Resistance, and neither do I know anything about them,â
I shrugged. âI donât believe you because I wasnât expecting you to come out right with me and tell me youâre one of them,â
She appeared panicked. âCan you lower your voice? If they hear us, itâll be too dangerous for you or people close to you,â
I took a step back. âAre you threatening me? Is that a threat?â
She shook her head. âNo! Iâm not threatening you and neither was I planning on hurting Darius. What you just did might get me in trouble and make Darius and his men think I have something to do with the attack,â
She sounded scared and maybe sad but I refused to read her like an open book and just look away from her.
âIâm done trying to have a conversation with you, Halle. Iâm keeping quiet and not calling you out for two reasons, because of the friendship we once had and because I have no solid evidence against you but remember this, the moment I confirm that youâre a part of the resistance, Iâll be sure to hold tightly to the chain thatâll be used to drag you out,â
âAngelaâ¦â
I raised a finger, stopping her from talking. âI wonât sit back and watch you guys hurt me or my child before I do something about it,â
âI would never hurt you or Reina. Darius is not who he says he is. Heâs a dangerous man but I donât support the movement,â
âENOUGH!â I cautioned. I was done listening to her saying all sorts of bullshit that I wasnât interested in.
âWhen youâre ready to talk or listen, you know where to find me, Angela,â
I had to bite down on my tongue before I could tell her to go to hell. She held my hand for a few seconds before she turned and walked away from there.
âEverything okay?â Brit asked as I walked back into the house.

âOf course,â
âThat was tense,â
âWhat was?â I feigned ignorance.
She gave me the stink eye. âDidnât you guys used to be good friends?â
âWe used to be but itâs been five years, Iâve had a child and things have changed,â
âOr maybe itâs because you turned your back on everybody over a man who didnât blink twice because he left you. The same man youâre still simping over. Heâs in there dying physically and youâre out here dying psychologically. Is he even worth it?â
I took a deep breath. âBrit! Iâm not ready for that conversation, alright? I know I f*cked up and Iâm sorry but I canât undo the past. Life has dealt me a tough hand and Iâve paid one way or another for what I did. For now, letâs focus on the present,â
She bit down on my bottom lip. She wanted to say something, maybe drag out the matter but she stopped. Brit gave me a fake smile. âYou should starve to death. Iâll tell Mom you ate,â
I could still sense the bad blood between us. She left after that without even looking back. I was being a stupid sister the same way I acted irresponsibly five years ago.
If wishes were horses, Iâd love to go back and undo the things Iâd done. For the first time since I left, I regretted leaving.
It took a day for Darius to finally open his eyes. Thanks to his Alpha blood and his wolf, he was healing as quickly as possible. I was sitting on the couch, staring at the silent TV in the room. My gaze was fixed on the screen but I was so deep in thought that I didnât even realize Darius was awake.
âWhy are you so deep in thought, My Angel?â
I turned my head to see his eyes open and I almost crumbled. I gasped and quickly threw my hands in the air.
âYouâre awake,â I declared. I sat up on the couch as I took in the sight of him.
Tears fell from my face as the hope that Iâd lost became restored. I didnât believe he could open his eyes so soon. I had thought he would be in that comatose state for a long time.
âCome here,â he whispered. His words were like magic. My legs stood on its own and within a second, I was beside him on the bed. âLet me hold you, baby,â I bent so we could hug. His body had regained its warmth and it was so good to feel his touch on my skin. It was a sign that he was truly alive.
âI was afraid you
wouldâve left,â he muttered. Although it came out low I could still make out his words.
âWhat?â I asked in shock and confusion. Darius has never been scared of anything. It was crazy hearing him admit that he was afraid of something.
âI thought you wouldâve left at the first opportunity you got. I know you always wanted to leave this pack but I didnât know you would actually stay. Why did you stay?â
âBecause I wanted to and maybe because the plan to leave didnât occur to me. Maybe because I want to stay by your side,â
âI got you worried, didnât I?â He asked, cupping my face.
âI was worried but Iâm happy youâre here now,â a lone tear dropped down my face and he cleaned it off.
âThe thought of you dying scared me and almost killed me,â I told him.
âEven if I die, Iâll cross seven oceans and seas to come back to you. I would become a slave to the heavenly deity if it meant returning alive, just to see your smile again,â
I hugged him tightly the second time. He winced and I got scared. I tried to move away from him but he stopped me and hugged me tighter.
The door leading to the room opened and Azalea walked in.
âAlpha,â I sat on the bed and looked at him. Darius must have communicated with him through the mindâlink because he didnât look as surprised as Iâd been.
Chapter 63
âAzalea, I guess weâve been too kind to the Resistance. Letâs do with them what they did with us,â
I frowned. Darius looked at me with a deep frown and declared âLetâs make them burn, just like they wanted us to.â
