Darius’ POV

I arrived late at home later that day. I’d promised Angela I would be home so I’d explain Daisy’s situation to her but unfortunately I couldn’t even get out of work earlier. By the time I checked her room, she was already asleep.

I kissed her forehead and tucked her in properly since it was a cold night and she could get cold because of her wolf. I le for Reina’s room. My princess was wide awake to my surprise. Immediately I stepped my foot into the room, she jumpe out of bed.

“Daddy,” she yelled excitedly and threw herself into my arms.

“Hey baby,” I hugged her right back.

“Missed you, Daddy,”

“I missed you too, Ree,” like crazy. I couldn’t possibly use that word for my little girl. I’d missed our tea parties and lunch: the ice cream shop. I could always see the crazy look Angela used to give me any time we visited that ice cream shop but didn’t care. We both have a sweet tooth and getting our cravings was all that mattered.

“Where have you been? You didn’t come to Grandma’s house to see me”

She asked with a pout and a sad face. Since the night I made the announcement at the meeting, I hadn’t been able to see t It was the longest we’d gone without seeing each other.

“I’ve been busy, baby. It’s going to be like that for a while but I’ll always be back. Is that cool?”

She gave me a thumbs up. “super cool,” we both laughed.

“Why are you still up by this time?”

“Nightmare. I saw Aunt Brit dying and a monster was laughing at her and me too. It was scary, Daddy,” she hugged me agai

Her description of the dream was too vivid and scary as well for a child her age. I heard Brit left the pack to heavens know where so no one could actually tell how she was.

“I’m sure Aunt Brit is perfectly fine, baby. There’s no monster that can take you as long as I’m here. I’m gonna protect you,”

I promised. I knew it was probably a silly girl’s dream but I meant every word. Any monster coming for my princess has to pass through me first.

“Will you go back to bed now?” I asked.

“Will you stay till I fall asleep?”

“Anything for my princess,”

She smiled, revealing her missing tooth. I frowned. I could’ve asked her when she lost that tooth but she had to be in bed early.

I tucked her in and read her one of her Princess stories, Before I could get to the middle part, she was fast asleep.

“You’re safe, Ree,” I whispered, kissed her cheek, and walked out of the room. I also made sure to lock the door tightly behind me.

As I walked down the stairs, I could see a shadow standing outside the front door. I grabbed the doorknob and threw it

I grabbed the phone and accepted the call. Truly, someone was ready on the other end of the line.

“Ryker, I growled.

My palm twisted into a fist. If he were with me at that moment, I would’ve kicked his a** so badly he wouldn’t feel his body for the longest time.

“If I’m to make a choice, I want to be sure Mason is alive. Why don’t you start by giving my brother the f**g phone?

“You’re pretty smart, Darius. You’ve always been smart but Mason is not with me. He’s not in my pack and I have the information that might help you find him,”

I could hear a growl coming from him. “you don’t get to command me,”
