I take a deep breath and summon my courage. âItâs just that youâre an Alpha, and Iâm an Omega. We are from different worlds. I donât know if we can really connect.â
Eric looks at me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then he leans back in his chair and takes a sip of champagne.
âLook, I know we come from different backgrounds. I canât argue with that,â he says
finally. âBut there is something about you that draws me in.â
Ah, this must mean he does care about our differences but chooses to go out with me anyway. Interestingâ¦
I nod slowly, still unsure. âBut what about your pack? Donât they have a problem with you
being with an Omega?â
Eric shrugs. âSome of them do. But I donât care. I want to be with who I want to be with. And right now, thatâs you.â
I feel a spark of warmth in my chest, and my heart beats faster. Is it possible that he genuinely likes me?
Despite my reservations, I canât help the smile that forms on my face. Eric notices, and his lips curl into a smirk. âSeeing something you like?â
I have to bite my lower lip in order not to laugh. âAre you flirting with me now?â
âThat dependsâ¦are you?â
We look at each other for a few moments until, finally, Eric breaks the silence. âSo, what

Eric laughs. âDonât worry about the price. Order whatever you want. Iâm the one paying

I smile but still feel a little overwhelmed. âOkay, umâ¦how about the lobster tail?â
Eric nods his approval. âGood choice. And for dessert, we have to try the chocolate lava
cake.â
As we wait for our food to arrive, Eric and I continue to talk. We find common ground in our love for music and movies; before I know it, Iâm laughing and enjoying myself.
When our food arrives, I canât believe how delicious everything looks and tastes. Eric watches me with amusement as I savor each bite.
âYouâre adorable,â he says with a grin. âI love watching you enjoy yourself.â
I feel my cheeks heat up at his words. âStop it, youâre making me blush.â And wanting something which I canât have: love and affection. Iâm sure Eric is just taking me out to cure his boredom or something.
Eric chuckles, and then his expression turns serious. âI want to be honest with you, though. I donât just want a casual fling. I want something more serious.â
I freeze for a moment, unsure of how to respond. I had never considered a serious relationship with anyone, let alone with a werewolf.
âSâsomething more serious?â I ask.
Eric nods. âLogan and I are searching for a mate, and youâ¦â his dark eyes glimmer as he

His words ruin my mood. What am I? A living sex toy? Is that the only thing he cares. about? Anger swells inside my chest, but I keep it inside. I know my place, and I also know better than to throw a tantrum inside a luxurious restaurant.
Instead, I take a deep breath and try to compose myself. âI appreciate your honesty, but Iâm not sure Iâm ready for anything serious right now.â
!!
Eric snorts. âOh, Five. I wasnât askingâIâm the Alpha, so I get whatever I want.â
His words hit me hard, and I feel a shiver of fear run down my spine. Iâve heard stories of werewolf Alphas and their power, and I know how dangerous they can be when they donât get what they want.
Would Logan and Eric force themselves upon me even if I chose to reject the idea of becoming their mate?
And more importantly, why would they want to claim me of all people? Iâm weak and a nobody. Iâm not even their fated mate, so why they would want me doesnât make any goddamn sense.
As I continue to stare at Eric, trying to decipher his true intentions, he leans even closer and lowers his voice. âI can tell youâre scared, but you have nothing to fear. Logan and I would never hurt you. We just want to take care of you.â
I can feel his hot breath on my neck, and it sends a shiver down my spine. Despite my fear,
I canât help but feel a strange attraction to him. His rugged features and muscular build are hard to resist.
But I have a brain.
I growl low in my throat. âIs that why youâve treated me as a housemaid ever since I

Shock washes over Ericâs face. âWell⦠itâs better than staying with your abusive parents,
right?â
I laugh bitterly. âYou think Iâm here out of gratitude? Do you think I donât see how you and Logan look at me? Like Iâm a piece of meat?â
Ericâs face darkens, and he leans even closer. âWhy is that a problem? A piece of meat is
exactly what you are.â
I stand up, my chair scraping against the floor. âI canât fucking believe I thought you were nice for even a second!â I slap his face hard, the sound echoing throughout the room. Eric stumbles backward, clearly taken aback by my sudden outburst.
But Iâm not done yet.
âYou know what? Iâm done with both of you. Iâm leaving, and Iâm never coming back.â
With that, I storm out of the restaurant, my heart racing with anger and fear. I can hear Eric shouting after me, but I donât care. I just need to get away, far away from those two wolves and their twisted desires.
Why do they keep playing games with me?!
The moon is high in the sky as I run through the forest, my breath coming in ragged gasps. Iâve never been able to shapeâshift, but there is a strange sensation in my blood as I approach the lake.
I stop as I reach the water, the silvery moonlight reflecting off the surface. I look down at my reflection, my blonde hair disheveled and my cheeks flushed.
Something stirs inside me, a burning desire that I canât suppress. With a low growl, I strip

off my clothes and let myself fall into the water.
Part of me wants to die. To just let myself sink to the bottom of the lake and never return. It would be so easy, and nobody would miss me. But thereâs a part of me that still has
hope.
I swim to the surface, my body shivering at the cold.
The moonlight is so strong that it almost feels like the sun. I take a deep breath and brace myself for what is to come. With a sudden burst of energy, my body begins to change. Fur sprouts from my skin, my bones shifting and elongating until finally, I am no longer human but a majestic wolf standing tall in the moonlight.
I howl in joy, feeling more alive than ever before. I can feel the power inside me surging through my veins and giving me strength. Finally, after all these years of living as an outcast among my own pack, I have finally found myself.
Suddenly I hear voices. Itâs the twins.
âYou told her what?!â Logan growls. âThat she is a piece of meat? No wonder she ran off!â
âI panicked!â Eric groans. âShe makes me feel things, and I donât like it!â
. I
âAnd you think she liked you calling her a piece of meat, you idiot?! She could be dead
because of you!â
âDead?!â Eric sounds horrified.
âYes! There are countless of these stupid poachers working illegally on these grounds, and knowing Five, she will probably step into a trap by accident and hurt herself! That girl has
the worst luck ever!â
âShitâ¦you might be right.â

The twins are coming closer, but even if Logan is being logical, I donât want to return to the twins. My days of being their slave are over. I look around, eyes locking onto a pathway that leads deeper into the forest. Perfect.
Without a second thought, I run towards the path, my paw prints leaving no trace in the
soil. I run and run, barely even feeling tired despite the strain on my muscles.
The further I go into the forest, the calmer I feel. The sound of the twinsâ voices fades away, and eventually, thereâs nothing but my own pounding heart and the whisper of
wind in the leaves.
My paws slap against the dirt, urging me on faster and faster. As the wind whips my ears. and fur around my face, I finally feel liberated from all of my worries. I push myself to keep running, moving further away from any and all pressure until Iâm completely out of breath. Even then, my exhilaration keeps me going until Iâm forced to come to a stop.
My gaze takes in my surroundings; this place is beautiful. Tall trees reach up towards the sky, their branches dancing in the moonlight like a million tiny stars. A glimpse of silver catches my eye, and I realize it is a stream winding through this strange new land.
I take a few steps forward, feeling content with the world, until an unforgiving metal trap snaps shut around my legs. I gasp in agony as the cold bite of metal digs into my skin, and my cries echo through the air. Fear wraps its icy claws around me as I struggle to free
myself from the merciless grip of the trap.
But Iâm not going anywhere.
Another piercing yelp escapes my throat as pain seizes me. Iâm helplessly trapped. The last thing I see is a giant hole appear in the ground underneath me as I struggle against the trap. It swallows me, and the final thought that flashes through my mind is that this is it. Iâm going to die like this, in agony, with no one to save me.
Just before the darkness takes me, I close my eyes and pray that someone will find me
before I die in this hole.
