The first thing I do when I return to the mansion is find Logan and Margaret. We quickly arrange a meeting in the garden for the pack and the vampires to reveal Charlie as Emilyâs murderer. The pack and the vampires vote on having him executed for his crime. He dies the same night.
A few days later, we hold a beautiful funeral for Emily. Itâs gorgeous, and many pack members cry. It makes me smile when I see that some of them have made friends with the vampires. I see a girl from the pack hug a vampire, who Iâm assuming must be her mate.
How curious.
Iâm on cloud nine after discovering the pack is getting along with the vampires and decide
to announce to the pack that Eric has been resurrected as a hybrid.
I donât expect the pack to understand. I honestly expected them to be horrified, but most
pack members seem happy that he is back, probably because none of us mention that he
is bloodthirsty from time to time. Ericâs father, however, doesnât look happy, and I make a
mental note to find out what agenda he has. I have a bad feeling about him.
But I donât have time to think about him now. I just want to be with my mates, and at the moment, Iâm trying to introduce Eric back into his old life. He is standing in our bedroom right now, squinting at the window.
âWas it always so bright in here?â he asks and shields his eyes from the bright sun.
âIt was, but I bought these for you,â I hand him the shades I bought. He takes them but looks more amused than grateful. There is a smirk on his lips.
âYou bought shades for a vampire?â I have no idea why he finds that so funny. He is laughing, and I frown a little, unsure if the gift is appreciated or not.

âYou donât have to wear them,â I mutter.

âI want to,â he smiles and pats my head. I feel like a child when he does it because he is so
much taller than me. I pout, and his lips twitch â I just know he has read my mind.
I sigh heavily. âDid you read my mind?â
âI didnât try this time; it just happened. Iâm trying to get better at not reading your mind since I know you value your privacy, but sometimes I canât help it.â
I decide to let that one slip and instead ask the question that is weighing on my mind. âSo then you know why Iâm confused about you not liking the shades?â
He breathes a laugh. âI like them, Princess. I do. Iâm just surprised at how much thought you have put into this. Not only have you filled an entire fridge with blood for me, but now youâve bought me shades? Call me a wimp, but Iâm happy.â
âYou are?â
âOf course!â he beams at me. âYouâve done so much for me: you have ensured this bedroom is cooler than the other ones and that the curtains let no sunlight through when they are closed. There is a coffin for me to sleep in â not that I will need it, but I like the Dracula feeling to it.â
I can physically feel my face heat up. âMargaret lied when she told me vampires feel the most comfortable sleeping in a coffin, didnât she?â
Eric canât help but chuckle. âOh yes, absolutely! I have no desire to sleep in a coffin, but it was hilarious to hear how much work you put into designing my new room. Youâre too cute!â
I frown when Eric bends down to kiss my cheek. He chuckles at the face Iâm pulling, and I stare down at the ground, all mopey. I really do feel like a child around himâ¦.

Eric sighs and runs a hand through my hair. It tickles, and my heart flutters when his hands run down to cup my cheeks, forcing me to look at him.
âYouâre not a child, Five. Youâre tiny, yes, but youâre my mate,â he grimaces. âJust sucks that I have to share you with my brother, of all people.â
Now itâs my turn to grimace. âWould you just stop fighting with Logan already? Iâm sick and tired of you two being enemies when you used to be best friends. Itâs also weird that you have a schedule on whose bed Iâm sleeping in. Youâre seriously treating me like a child who has two divorced parents with shared custody!â
Eric laughs out loud. âThatâs one way of putting it.â
I glare at him. âDonât agree with me on this! It just means that things have gone too far.â
Eric wonât look at me, but when I cross my arms over my chest, he flashes a halfâgrin.
âMaybeâ¦â
I raise an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to elaborate. When he doesnât, I let out a
frustrated huff. âWhat do you mean by saying maybe? Do you have a plan or not?â
Eric finally turns to look at me. âIâm not the one who should apologize; he is.â
I massage my eyelids with my digits. My first instinct was to growl in frustration, but I miraculously fought that off. Now, Iâm standing here willing to listen. âOkayâ¦why?â
âUh, because he abandoned me as soon as you came into the picture? Donât get me
wrong. Youâre our mate, and youâre important, but he never visited me on his own when I
was in that basement!â
âBecause he was afraid of you!â I exclaim. âYouâre a hybrid now, Eric! It frightened your brother!â

âBut he is my brother! He should have known I was still the same person!â
I canât disagree with that and instead slump my shoulders. I have no idea how to save the brotherâs relationship, but something needs to be done. We canât keep living like this, especially since none of them have marked me, and it needs to be when we are all together â something which will never happen if they keep being enemies.
âOkay, okay,â I say. âHow about we go on a little trip together? Leave the pack for a few days and just focus on each other. How does that sound?â
