Tension Unresolved
Caught Up in Between
âWhat are you doing? This attitude of yours is starting to get on my nerves!â I hissed.
âYou didnât read my message.â
âAnd?â I asked, irritated.
âWhy?â
âDidnât feel like reading it.â I walked around him and headed out to the terrace. Drew caught my arm and held me back. I was furious.
âWhat?!â I demanded.
âI want to talk to you.â
âNo, thank you. I came here to have some fun and spend time without any drama. If you wonât let me, I will ask Logan to bring me back to his parentsâ house.â
âYou wouldnât.â
âTry me, Drew. I am sick and tired of your schemes. I just want you to leave me alone. Thatâs all I am asking from you. For fuckâs sake, leave me alone!â
Drewâs hands clenched into fists. He was furious, just like me. We stared at each other angrily. I was tired of this. I wanted to have at least one calm day.
I heard footsteps, and then Lilyâs voice. âIs everything okay?â
Lily appeared in the kitchen. Her eyes darted back and forth between Drew and me as she tried to figure out what might have just happened.
âYeah, just talking. Letâs go outside, Lil. I want to eat.â I walked to her and led the way to the terrace. I took a few more steps to the couch and plopped myself down. Lily and Drew followed me outside. He didnât look at me, and he went over to Logan, who was standing near the barbecue.
I drank two bottles of beer and ate salad and a small piece of steak. I was talking with Lily almost the whole time. Kate was sitting with Tim, but from time to time, she joined our conversation.
Logan and Drew left for a bit to talk on their phones. I guessed that the girlfriends were trying to control their boyfriends. Logan returned with a smile, while Drew was visibly upset and even angry.
After some time, we all gathered around the small table in front of the couch.
âSo, guys, whatâs our plan for tomorrow?â Tim asked, looking at each of us.
âI was thinking, could we go hiking? Like old times, what do you say?â Drew asked. His mood had changed a little, but I guessed it was only because of the alcohol.
âGreat idea, man!â Logan and Tim answered almost in unison.
âYeah! That sounds great!â Lily was delighted. I was already starting to look forward to the hike. If only Drew would behave.
I yawned. It was already close to midnight.
âI know that I will sound like a mood killer, but maybe someone could show me to my room?â I said, and Logan and Drew looked at me.
Lily?â I should have said her name from the start.
âOf course! Letâs go! I also want to go to bed early. We will leave in the morning, right?â We stood up from the couch.
âAround 10? Breakfast at 9?â Logan asked, and everyone nodded in agreement.
âNight!â We said and walked to the house, then to the second floor. The first room was for Kate and Tim, then for Logan, the next for Lily, and only then mine.
âAnd Drew? Where will he be sleeping? Just out of curiosity!â I said and laughed at Lilyâs expression.
âMay I remind you that he has a girlfriend. Remember that. Okay?â Lily said.
âOkay. Iâm not going to sleep with him if youâre thinking that. Donât worry.â
âI just donât want you to get hurt, thatâs allâ¦â
âItâs fine. I get it, really. Night, Lily.â
âNight.â
We both walked to our rooms, closing our doors at the same time. My room was decorated in light colors, with a small wardrobe and a double bed in the center.
I placed my things in the closet and went to the bathroom to wash my face. I guess if I wanted to take a shower, I would need to go to the first floor because I saw the shower cabin there.
For tonight, I will be okay without it, but tomorrow I will go there.
I put on my shorts and a loose T-shirt and hid under the blanket on the bed. It felt so good. Soon enough, I was asleep.
I woke up in the middle of the night because I felt someone hugging me from behind. With difficulty, I wriggled out of this grip and turned around.
It was Drew, fully dressed in his T-shirt and black sweatpants. He was lying on my bed with his eyes closed. His hands snuck back to me and landed on my hips.
We were facing each other, and I stared at him hard.
âDrew!â I hissed. I didnât want to wake the whole house up. With just the moonlight illuminating my room, I could barely make out his features.
âRebecca, please⦠I just want... to stay with you until the morning comes. I wonât try anything, I swear!â he whispered, but I could still hear the sadness in his voice.
Should I let him stay? The reasonable answer was âno,â but who was I kidding? Seeing him so vulnerable made me soften. I still had feelings for this asshole.
âYou will leave this room in the morning, so no one will know that you were here. Deal?â
âScoutâs honor.â Drewâs face lit up with a smile. Oh God, he was a gorgeous guy, and so captivating!
âFineâ¦â
I turned to my left and moved closer to him so my back was pressed against his chest. Instantly, he hugged me, placing his hands on my belly. I covered them with mine, letting him entwine our fingers.
Drew pushed my hair from my shoulder and kissed my neck. I heard him whisper into my ear.
âI promise you. I just want to hold you, Becca... Iâve missed thisâ¦â
I felt happiness spreading over my body like a warm wave.
âGood Lord, Becca... What are you doing to me?â Drew continued to say in a dreamy voice. âI am totally under your spell, itâs like you bewitched me... So beautiful and so gorgeous... And your smell... it drives me crazy... I am crazy about you... And I am a fucking idiot who screwed everything upâ¦â
Did he know how glad I was to hear that? But I didnât want to get carried away by his words. Iâd heard enough of them before. If he wanted to be with me, we should talk, and he would need to break up with Phoebe.
I felt my eyelids getting heavier and heavier. Soon, I fell asleep, feeling completely safe in Drewâs arms.
