Unspoken Feelings Revealed

Caught Up in Between

BECCA

John’s family’s house was impressive. It was huge, and even in one glance it was obvious that the family was wealthy as hell.

The grounds were hidden behind a high fence. So only when I drove inside, I had the opportunity to see it better. The house was painted in white color with big windows. I started wondering how many rooms were inside.

“Almost like my house,” Logan said as soon as we were outside my car.

“What do you mean?” I went to pick up my bag from the trunk.

“My house in Philly. It looks almost the same.” Logan took our two bags in his hands and started walking while I stayed rooted to the spot. “Rebecca?”

“Your house is the same? I saw photos of its interior, but never the outside…” Logan turned to me and raised his eyebrow at me. “Why do you need such a big house?”

“Dunno.” He just shrugged his shoulders. “I will be married one day. Kids and other stuff…”

“How many children do you want?” Me and my curiosity.

“Two or three. The more, the merrier. But definitely not just one.”

This man wanted to have a family. He wanted children. A wife. Why was I so surprised? It was totally in Logan’s nature. I knew that. Mary, Lily’s seamstress, told his sister exactly that. All his relationships with models were just to kill time, to take care of his needs. Nothing more.

“Rebecca, come on. We will be late, just because you act like you were jinxed,” Logan started laughing, amused by his own joke.

I shook my head and followed him silently, without opening my mouth, because I was afraid that I would say something stupid. He was opening up to me again, and I was cautious not to ruin it.

We only had time to step near the front door when it opened. Kelly was smiling at us with a very genuine smile. She was a lovely girl with blue hair.

She always liked to experiment with her hairstyles, and I remember seeing her with shaved temples, with green strands, or with a pixie cut. She was a kind and warm-hearted person. I liked her the most among Lily’s friends.

“Logan, Rebecca! Lily told us that you had some errands to run before you got here. You’re just on time.”

She gestured for us to come inside, and we both entered the house, our shoulders touching. This contact sent shivers down my spine. I wasn't sure if Logan felt the same, but he glanced at me too, and our eyes locked for a few seconds.

Kelly was talking nonstop. She had been asked to show us to our rooms and then to bring us to the backyard, where the rehearsal would be held.

I was too curious, studying my surroundings: the interior decorations, furniture, and little details here and there. The house was like a piece of art. You could feel not only the vibes of wealth, but also the understanding that the owners had a taste for good things. Impressive.

“Okay. For tonight, we will stay like that. And for you not to freak out on me, you should know that it was Lily and John’s decision.” I narrowed my eyes. I had hardly been listening to her, and now, unfortunately, I had no idea what she was talking about.

“So, we will be next door to each other, and we will have a combined bathroom?” Logan asked with a solemn tone of voice. I couldn’t figure out if he was really upset or if he was messing with Kelly. She looked very pale now, her eyes darting from him to me and back.

“Ye…Yeah… Lily said it’s okay.” Kelly gulped nervously and took a step back. “But if it’s not, I will go and find her. Maybe they could switch rooms. Riley wanted to be next to you.”

I snorted, covering it with a cough. Logan glanced at me, and I saw that his eyes were smiling. He wasn’t angry, and he was enjoying every second of this situation, making Kelly totally uncomfortable.

Poor girl, she didn’t deserve it. Especially since he was paired with her. Does he want to scare her or what?

“Kelly, relax. Logan is joking,” I patted her on the back and saw a grateful smile on her lips. Then she turned her head at him, and it disappeared.

“Logan Jones, you are a jerk! You messed with me when we were children, and you’re continuing to do it even now! Unbelievable!”

She stomped her foot and gestured to two doors at the end of the hallway.

“In between these rooms is the bathroom. You have about ten minutes to put your things away and change. Otherwise, we will be late, and it’s the last thing I want to happen.”

Kelly turned around and went to the door a little farther away from ours. Logan and I glanced at each other and went to our rooms. He gestured to me at the first door, and I nodded. I placed my hand on the doorknob and opened it.

The room was dim because it was already evening. I turned the lights on and looked around. It was decorated in a light color, something between ivory and beige. In the middle of the room was a big four-poster bed, a full-length mirror in one corner, and a wooden wardrobe near it.

Nothing fancy, but the bed alone was probably more expensive than all the furniture in my apartment in Miami.

Okay, Kelly said 10 minutes. I opened my bag and shuffled through it. I found my white summer dress right away. It was a cute mini dress featuring gorgeous lace trimming and white ribbon panels. I often wore it off both shoulders, and I did it this time too.

I made a messy bun in my hair and only had time to add some mascara to my eyelashes when I heard a knock on the bathroom door. Instantly, my lips stretched into a goofy smile. Damn, Rebecca, you need to learn how to hide your emotions! Or he will see right through you.

“Come in.” I continued to look at myself in the mirror while putting on my silver hoop earrings. The door opened, and through the mirror’s reflection, I saw Logan standing in the doorframe.

He changed too, and now he was wearing a white shirt and sand-colored trousers. This white shirt hugged his every muscle and bicep. He looked deliciously hot wearing it, and the tattoo on his neck added something mysterious to his look, something forbidden.

“It’s like I have déjà vu.” Logan finally moved and came straight to me, standing just behind my back. I felt a tingling sensation in my lower abdomen. I think I need to get used to it. It was Logan Jones’ effect all over, and I had it very badly.

“Why?” My voice sounded hoarse.

“You and the white lacy dress. Just like it was when I saw you for the first time.”

Logan placed his hand on my waist, only to let it slide down to my hip.

“Your natural beauty without a lot of makeup, your tanned skin, and your long legs are perfectly visible with this kind of dress. Your body changed a little, but only in a good way—it’s even more curvaceous and also more fit than it was. Have you been exercising?”

“Yeah. Gym, swimming, counting my food calories.” I licked my lips because my mouth was totally dry. We were staring at each other in the mirror, not moving at all.

“Rebecca, really, why did you dye your hair? You had such a beautiful brown color and now these platinum blond strands…”

“I wanted to make a change before moving to New York. I chose to change my hair color.” I took my red lipstick from my makeup bag and put it on to complete my look. Logan was right about one thing, these red lips were good on me, but it was better when I was a brunette.

We heard a knock on the door. It brought us back to reality immediately. But Logan stepped aside from me only after he kissed my shoulder.

Why was he acting like that? All that I wanted to do now is to yell at Kelly that she needed to go away and to tear Logan’s clothes off him. Yeah, this intimacy between us was affecting me very badly.

“Rebecca?” Kelly knocked again, and Logan finally opened the door to my room, walking outside. “Oh, it’s your room?”

“No, it’s mine.” I came closer to the door and followed Logan. Kelly glanced at both of us but said nothing. That’s why I liked her. She never was too nosy and always was ready to help. If it would have been Riley, I was afraid even to imagine it.

“I guess you two followed the dress code to perfection. Lily asked everyone to wear something white,” Kelly said as we followed her out of the room. She was wearing a white maxi dress.

“But Becca, I think you need to know that… John’s mom might be intimidating, and well, I am not so sure that she will approve of the length of your dress.”

“Are you kidding me?” Logan was the first to talk. “The dress is almost knee-length.”

“Logan, I am just warning Becca about what could happen. That’s all.” Kelly lifted her hands in front of her chest as if she was trying to defend herself.

“Thank you, Kelly,” I said, placing my hand on Logan’s forearm. I felt as he relaxed under my touch. Good, he was becoming too tense.

“It’s nothing. Well, here we are.” Kelly said and opened the door.

When we walked outside, I almost gasped. The view before my eyes was marvelous. There were four rows of white chairs, and between them was the aisle that led straight to a floral arch.

I started smiling, and despite everything, I just reached for Logan’s hand and entwined our fingers together. He let me do that without saying a word. Our eyes locked for a few seconds, and then I let myself observe my surroundings better.

I guess not everything was ready with the decor because looking closely, I realized that the arch wasn’t covered with flowers. Good thinking that the wedding was planned for the second half of Saturday.

The backyard of the house was huge, with trees and bushes. I would love to look at it tomorrow morning. Tonight it was too dark for that already. Only the part with the aisle and the arch had the lights on.

“Oh, you’re already here,” I heard Lily’s voice and turned around.

She was wearing a light-pink maxi dress with a low back. She looked lovely with her hair cascading down her shoulders. I saw her eyes linger on Logan and me.

Well, not on us, but our entwined fingers. She grinned a little and shook her head at us. I didn’t notice it from the start, but yeah, even from there, the wooden terrace was visible.

Everyone was waiting there, except for the three of us. I saw people start moving.

“We’re here to make sure that every person knows their part, and after that, we will go to the terrace on the other side of the house to have dinner.”

John was the first. Near them were a man and woman I had never seen before. Their clothes looked expensive; they must be John’s parents. Then my eyes met Liam’s, and he winked at me, coming closer. Jason was talking to Riley, and they were the last to arrive.

“Logan, it’s so nice to finally meet you,” a grey-haired man extended his hand to Logan. Neither Liam nor John had taken after their father.

Well, almost. Their eye color was exactly the same shade as their father’s. He was tall and very slim. Wrinkles around his mouth showed that he often smiled. He looked like a lovely man.

“Yeah, me too, Mr. Dencen,” Logan shook his hand and smiled with his usual kind smile.

“Call me Peter. We will be family very soon,” he winked, and a big smile appeared on his lips. Yep, that man was a kind person.

“Mrs. Dencen, thank you for your help with the wedding, and thank you for having all of us tonight for dinner,” Logan shook John’s mom’s hand.

She was a beautiful dark-haired woman. Now, I was certain, both of her sons looked just like her. I don’t know why, but looking at her, I had the feeling that she was very strict.

She gave off the vibe of a person who pays a lot of attention to their reputation, trying to overcome every obstacle without letting the word out.

“Logan, we appreciate your presence here. My name is Laura,” she smiled at him, and only after that, she turned her head to me.

I saw her eyes look me up and down, taking in my appearance. As she pursed her lips, I knew that Kelly was right. My clothes weren’t something that this woman approved of.

“And this beautiful lady must be Lily’s best friend, Rebecca,” John’s father extended his hand to me.

“Yes, that’s me. Thank you for letting us stay here, Mr. Dencen.”

“No problem. This house is enormous, and we are always happy to have guests.”

“Mrs. Dencen, it’s nice to meet you.” I smiled at the woman, and she nodded at me. Okay, I guess the introduction round might be considered as completed.

“Okay, guys, let’s get started!” John’s voice filled the air.

A young woman with blond hair was standing near Lily and John. She looked very professional in her black skirt and blue shirt. She had an iPad in her hands; I guess it was their wedding planner.

And yes, soon enough, she was ordering every one of us to take our place and telling us what we should do and what we shouldn’t. I was impressed by her work.

Forty minutes later, the rehearsal was over. The ceremony will be quite simple, so we were all able to remember all of our duties right away.

As I was paired with Liam, I spent almost the entire time with him. We laughed a lot, whispering to each other, and commenting on parts of the rehearsal. I enjoyed being in his company. It allowed me to distract myself from thoughts about Logan.

Logan was with Kelly, and they were adorable together. I am not sure about which “thing” Riley was talking about, but tonight it looked as if Kelly couldn’t care less about Logan. They teased each other, bickering, and made us all laugh.

Riley wasn’t happy with this new development. I saw that she was feeling impatient. She was staring and glancing in their direction too much. How will it go when she realizes that what happened yesterday meant nothing to Logan?
