Unspoken Desires

Caught Up in Between

BECCA

“Rebecca?” My eyes fluttered open a little. When I was able to fall asleep, it was almost 3 am. Damn, I will look like a zombie tonight!

I sat up on the bed and straightened up. The sun rays were streaming into the room. I heard a knock on the bathroom door again.

I ran my hand through my hair and then rubbed my eyes a little. Okay, I can’t do anything more to improve my appearance.

“Yeah, come in,” I said, stifling a yawn. The door opened, and a fully dressed Logan stepped inside. He was wearing a simple blue t-shirt and beige shorts. He looked entirely awake and perfectly fine. I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Did I wake you up?” He came closer and sat on the edge of my bed.

“What does it look like?” I stretched my arms in the air and wiggled a little from side to side. I turned my head away from him and stared at the door to my room.

“Nice dress.” I bore my gaze into his. His eyes were shining, and he was enjoying what he saw. Well, I couldn’t blame him. This nightgown hugged every curve and gave a push-up effect to my breasts.

“It was a gift from my ex.”

“From Cody?” Nice one. He remembered.

“Yes,” I said as I took the blanket off and sat on the bed. “What are you doing here?”

“It’s almost 11 o’clock,” I replied.

“And?” I stood up and walked to my bag, taking out clothes to change into. When I turned around, Logan was staring at me with evident admiration in his eyes. Well, I had given him quite a view with my nightgown barely hiding my ass, but after last night, I just didn’t want him to look at me like that.

“I was going to grab breakfast and thought I would check up on you,” Logan explained.

“Well, you did. Now could you go? I need to take a quick bath,” I said as I strode straight to the bathroom.

“Rebecca, not again,” he said as he stood up and followed me inside. I arched my eyebrow at him.

“Are you going to stand there the whole time while I take my bath?” I asked.

“Maybe. If you're going to act like this with me,” he replied.

“Like what?” I turned on the tap, checking the temperature of the water.

“Distancing yourself from me,” I said as I walked over to place my clothes on the countertop and then returned to the bath.

“I had the impression that that's exactly what you wanted.”

“God, no! Rebecca, I want us to be friends again. I want you to trust me again. I want you to understand that after you're back in New York, you can always count on me. Just call me, and I'll do anything to help you.”

“Well, friend, that's nice to hear,” I said sarcastically. “But now I would appreciate it if you left the room.”

“I know when you're being sarcastic, Rebecca…”

Logan folded his arms over his chest. Oh, for fuck's sake! He was unbelievable! I turned away from him and just took off my nightgown, tossing it on the floor, and then took off my panties.

When I was completely naked, I stepped into the bath and sat down. Thankfully, the water level was enough for me to sit comfortably. I ignored him and listened to the sound of the water.

“Fuck…” I heard him curse under his breath. And just a second later, I heard the door close. Only then did I let my shoulders slump, pulling my knees to my chest. It was going to be a very long day and an even longer night, I could tell.

I walked out of the room when it was almost noon. If I remember our schedule correctly, in 20 minutes, there will be a makeup artist and hairstylist. I will be okay with some fruit. I was used to eating a little in the mornings.

The excellent question was, where to go? I walked back to the living room and found Lily and Kelly. They were sitting on the couch, talking about something.

“Hey, girls. How are you? Ready for the big day?” I asked, coming closer. Lily glanced at my appearance and smiled. Okay, what was it?

“Nervous. Trying to hide it as much as I can.” She giggled and placed her head on Kelly’s shoulder. Kelly ruffled her hair with her hand and winked at me.

“We would be very grateful if you would join us. You always were able to calm her down. Is it Rebecca’s magic?” Kelly said to me with laughter.

“Maybe.” I glanced back at the hallway. “I need something to eat. Just a little bite will be enough.”

“Oh, you still haven’t had breakfast?”

“No. Logan woke me up at 11. He wanted to check in on me.” I scowled without noticing it and saw Lily narrow her eyes at me.

“Is everything okay between you and my brother?”

“Yep. We are BFFs now.” Again, I was mean, spitting venom. I sighed and closed my eyes for a few seconds. “Yes, Lily, don’t worry. We talked, everything was good. We are friends, that’s all.”

“Come back here fast. I need you.” My eyes softened. I loved this girl so much, and I didn’t want to ruin her day with my bad mood. This day wasn’t about me. Or about my feelings or emotions. It was all about her. I will do everything for it to be perfect.

“Sure, babe. Where is the kitchen?” Lily’s phone started buzzing, and she answered. Kelly stood up and nodded at me to follow her, which I did with gratitude.

“Did you sleep well?” Kelly asked me with curiosity.

“If you want to know if I was sleeping alone, or with Logan, then the answer will be ‘alone’. And yeah, I slept well.”

“No need to take offense. Riley told me this morning that Logan rejected her yesterday. So I was kind of convinced that he did that because of you.”

“Nope. Not because of me.” Untrue. But it didn’t matter. “How is Jason?”

“He’s a good guy, and I like him. But…” She turned away a little and then stared me in the eyes. “I am worried, as Riley knows now that she has zero chances with Logan, she will try to hook up with him instead.”

“If he will be that quick to change his mind, he doesn’t deserve a chance with you. There will be a lot of other men in attendance. Some of them must be single.”

“There will be 60 guests in total. And about seven single men. So…”

“Kelly, you are an amazing girl. Unique and with a kind soul. You won’t be alone for too long.”

“That’s easy for you to say, you look like a supermodel.” I narrowed my eyes at her. “Sorry, Becca, it was stupid. Come on. We need to fuel your body a little.”

The kitchen was big and fully stocked, but I didn’t expect anything different from it. It was empty, which was a good sign already.

Kelly walked to the fridge and took out a sandwich for me and a banana. I nodded at her approvingly and took them from her. She went to make a coffee for me. I finished my improvised breakfast in ten minutes, and we went back to Lily.

“So, what’s the plan?”

“Well, for starters, we will all have a total makeover with makeup and hairstyling, and then change into our dresses. The guests will arrive at 4 pm, and two hours later, the ceremony will start. The guys already left the house, and they’re all staying in the guest house. So…”

“Well, we will definitely be busy.”

“I am starting to feel nervous, even if it’s not my wedding.” Kelly scratched her wrist.

“We will be fine. We are here to support Lily, and we will do anything for her,” I said, and saw Kelly inhaling deeply, and then smiling at me.

The next few hours went by in a blur. I hardly had time for anything. I changed into my dress, then went to get my makeup done. Nothing too bright or too provocative, just to highlight my natural beauty and my emerald eyes.

As for my hair, I decided to go with a pretty inside-out French braid. It wrapped around my head, creating a dimensional weave. It looked damn good with this dress. Kelly and Riley also chose some updo hairstyles. We all looked beautiful.

When I saw Lily, I gasped. My girl was so gorgeous! Her hair was down with loose curls, and on top was a little hair hoop with small diamonds on it.

Her dress was white and very simple, but she looked so pure and elegant in it that I just couldn’t find words to say something to her at first.

Her makeup was perfect because it only highlighted her brown eyes and high cheekbones. I couldn’t take my eyes off her, staring at her with a goofy smile on my face.

“Becca, how do I look?”

“Like a real princess. John will be stunned, and all the guests as well.” I moved closer and hugged her gently.

“Well, I'm sure we'll all do a good job with it. All of you look gorgeous, and I'm incredibly happy to have friends like you,” she whispered to me.

I leaned back to look at her. Lily’s eyes were shining with so much happiness, and they reminded me a lot of Logan’s. Rebecca, not now! I smiled at her and kissed her cheek before stepping back.

“I saw your parents. They're already here. There are a lot of people, actually.”

“Well, you could go and mingle a little.” We heard a knock on the door, and Lily’s mother stepped inside. She looked at both of us, and a warm smile appeared on her face—a nice change from her coldness.

“Ladies, you both look absolutely fabulous.” I smiled at her and went to the door. When I was near her, she placed her hand on my wrist and looked into my eyes. “Thank you, Rebecca.”

“It’s nothing. I would do anything for Lily,” she said, smiling a little, and let me go. As I closed the door behind me, I saw her hugging Lily.

It was already 5 pm. The wedding would start in 40 minutes, and there were a lot of people. I heard voices, laughter, and light music coming from the living room. I decided to go there too because Kelly and Riley had already gone to talk with the guests.

As I stepped inside, I saw Kate with Tim from the very first glance. They were sitting on the couch, chatting and smiling at each other. They looked happy.

Kate was wearing a loose green dress, which fit her body very well, hiding her insecurities and highlighting her assets. Her red hair was in curls, and she had light makeup on. Tim hadn’t changed at all. Maybe he had become more mature now, and he had a beard. I decided to head over to them.

I started walking in their direction, nodding and smiling to other guests on my way. I was almost there when I heard my name. I stopped and slowly turned around. My eyes locked with the very familiar and very beautiful eyes of Drew Milton.
