“What do you mean?” Hailey said in shock, not sure that she heard her little boy well.

“Daddy! Will he come back?”

‘Why? Why do you ask?” Hailey was curious to know. The boys had asked that question before and she told them he was far away.

“I don’t know. Why do you ask?”

“Aubrey has a Daddy. He plays with her and brings her to school. I want Daddy to Come play with me too. I still don’t know how to ride a bike properly like Ollie. Daddy can teach me. I really want to meet him.”

“You should go to sleep, baby.”

“Please, mommy.” Enzo stared at his mother with pleading eyes.

“I will try my best to locate him.”

Hailey swallowed painfully, Nodding.

“I love you too, baby. Go to sleep.” Hailes whispered, kissing her son on the forehead. She caressed his cheek

and watched him fall asleep beside him.

Once Enzo was deeply asleep, Haley sighed, gently getting off the bed. She wore a light fur coat over her nightie, picked up her phone from the nightstand, and made her way towards the adjoined balcony. There was a small round table and a matching chair and the weather seemed to really cool tonight. Knowing She was forgetting something, Hailey made her way back in. And to Hailey’s surprise, the only relationship scandal Cole has had in the last four years were speculations

about him and Vanessa getting married and having beautiful kids.

Hailey sighed, keeping aside her phone. She went back to battling with her thoughts and drinking her anxiety

away.

Hailes had no idea how long she was seated for. But the weather started becoming really harsh so she decided to call it a day. She dashed into her bathroom, opened the cabinet, reached for her pill container, and swallowed three of it. She had hoped that it would cure her anxiety and depression for tonight.

“Vanessa baby, wait up.” Connie tried to catch up with her daughter who was moving in the direction of the

restroom.

“Why the hell are you crying? What if someone walks in?” Connie whispered, shutting the door behind her. She went to take a look at the stalls and thankfully they were all empty. Then she approached her daughter who was by the sink, crying and staring at herself by the mirror in front of her.

“You don’t need this, my love. You are gonna ruin your makeup!”

Vanessa turned to face her mother. “She knows our secret mama. She is going to ruin us”

“I am disappointed you actually believed every word she said. There is no way she’s gonna ruin us. Yes, she knows we were engaged in fraud but she has no evidence, and even if she does, she’s never going to put us in jail.”

“Why are you speaking that way, mama? Can’t you see she’s a new person? We can’t tell what she is up to.”

“Oh please, don’t tell me you believe she has all the money to set up the company. She definitely has some sort of secret going on and we are going to find out what it’s all about.”

“I can’t let her win, Mom. This is so unfair.” Vanessa sniffled, trying to gently dab tears off the corner of her eyes, grateful that her makeup was waterproof.

Vanessa nodded, calming down a bit by her mother’s words.

“So when are you and Cole going to get married?”

“Oh please don’t look at me that way. You should be married to him by now. Or do you want him to get back with that bitch?”

“Of course not, ma. Cole has just been pretty difficult to talk to lately. He doesn’t look at me the way he used to. He doesn’t answer my call or respond to text messages. It is so obvious that he wants Hailey.”

While Vanessa was with her father, having a conversation with one of the investors, Connie sighted Cole exiting the hall so she went after him. He was almost getting into the car when she met him.

“You are leaving already?”

“What I mean is, where are you going when your Fiance is still inside?”

causing the people passing to stare at her.

“What is this Connie? Get off me?” Cole mumbled, looking around, hoping nobody was recording them.

“I will only get up if you promise to get married to Vanessa.”

“My daughter risked her life for you. Promise me you are going to save her by getting married to her.”
