“I……I don’t know what you are talking about.” Her voice came through as though she was going to cry.

“Don’t you dare fuck with me with those fake tears of yours? You didn’t want me so you made me drunk so I could sleep with your sister. Then you faked being depressed so you could be sent abroad while I had to marry your sister!!”

A tear finally rolled down Vanessa’s cheek. “I don’t know what you are talking about. Yes, I gave you a drink but ! never spiked it. I told you to wait for me in the guest room but you were in the wrong room. Hailey is evil. She is not who you think she is. She came up with all of these. She had secretly eyed you and wanted you.”

“You should be ashamed of yourself for lying to my face. Why do you hate your sister so much? What did she ever do to you and your mother?”

“You spoke to Hailey, didn’t you? That bitch has filled your head with lies!”

“No, I didn’t. Unfortunately, Hailey wants nothing to do with me. Because the truth is that I messed up. I had her in my home for three years but I failed to treat her right.”

“I curse the day I called you and told you that I would like for us to be back together.”

“I told you that not because I loved you or I missed you. But because I was a coward. I had fallen deeply in love with Hailey and I was too afraid to admit it.”

“You drugged me and because of that, I am still married to Hailes. We were separated for four years but we are not divorced. Why the hell are you manipulating a legally wedded man to get married to you?”

Vanessa sniffled. “You are mad at me, that’s why you are saying all of these, right?”

“I know you don’t love Hailey. You are just saying all of these because I requested a big party.”

“But it doesn’t matter. No one knows you both were married.”

“But the law is aware. She bears my name.”

“You need to grow up, Cole. Hailey doesn’t give a damn about you. She is super pumped about being a gold digger to men who give her money for her company.”

“And there you are, talking me into giving you a big wedding that I can possibly not afford right now. If she is a gold digger, then that makes you no different from her. But fortunately, she is not and all I see in you is a very jealous woman who would stop at nothing to destroy her sister.”

“You told my mother you were going to marry me. Why take me on a date in disguise and talk nasty to me, comparing me to that bitch?”

“Your mother manipulated me into saying Yes and here you are urging me to give you the best wedding ever.”

“And do I need to tell you that no one’s gonna join us together unless I am successfully divorced?”

“That’s not a big deal, Cole. Hailey doesn’t want you so I’m sure she is going to sign the divorce papers in less than a day and we can have our dream wedding

Cole scoffed, staring at her with nothing but pity. “You don’t get it, do you?”

“I don’t love you, Vanessa. I don’t even feel half of what I feel for Hailey for you. How do you expect a one–sided

relationship to work?”

“I promise you that you don’t love Hailey. You are just in shock because she’s back. I promise you that I am going to be a good wife. I will do all I can to help you forget Cole.” She placed her hand on his lap as he spoke but he shrugged it off.

“Your mother wouldn’t stop disturbing me so I said yes. But deep down in my heart I know what I want and it’s not you.” Caole said, tore his eyes away from Vanessa, and started the car.

The rest of the ride was filled with silence with everyone minding their business until they got to the five–star restaurant.

“What’s going on here?” Vanessa asked as soon as she and Cole stepped into the restaurant. Everyone seems to have their attention on something.

“Oh, there’s a sweet proposal going on!” The waitress who was meant to usher them to their table giggled, pointing to the direction of the proposal.

“Thank you for this little getaway. I really needed this.” Hailey smiled at Tyler. He brought her out for dinner and they just finished with their dessert.

“Well, this was long overdue. Thank you for coming out to have dinner with me.”

“You have nothing to thank me for. I love hanging out with you.”

“Why are you staring at me like that?” Hailes blushed, picking up her glass of wine and bringing it to her lips. Not that she was thirsty. She just needed something to keep her company.”

“You are so gorgeous and perfect.”

Hailey tried so much not to choke on her drink.

“You see me almost every day. What’s so special about tonight?”

Tyler shrugged, smiling. “Glad that I know you and I found you.”

“You definitely know what to say to flatter me.”

“I mean every word that comes from my mouth.”

Blushing, Hailey mumbled. “I believe you.”

She was about to say something else when a waitress approached them with a white plate, directly placing it before Hailey.

“Sorry, I didn’t make any ord…..” She was saying until she saw the content of the plate when the waitress placed

it on the table before her.

It was a proposal plate with the words ‘Will you marry me?‘ engraved on it, alongside with a cupcake–sized velvet cake with her favorite toppings on it. Hailey’s heart stopped.

The waitress took her leave.

She looked up from the proposal plate and saw Tyler rise to his feet. He tucked his hand in his pocket and brought out a square–shaped box. He opened it and revealed a beautiful diamond ring.

Hailey’s lips moved to say something as Tyler took slow steps to where she was but words failed her.

She watched him as he went down on one knee. At this point, She could see people staring and cheering them

“Words cannot describe how much I love you and want to be with you, Hailey.”

“You are the woman of my dreams and I would want nothing more than to spend my forever with you and the most adorable little boys in the world.”

“I promise to spend the rest of my life putting smiles on you all’s faces.”

“Hailey, will you marry me?” Tyler stared at her with pleading eyes.

“Where the hell are you going?” Vanessa grabbed Cole’s arm as he was about to leave her.

He shrugged his hand off her in irritation.

“To get my wife back!”
