She was still putting on the dress she wore at the restaurant but had changed her heels into comfy flip–flops.

Debbie rose to her feet and approached Vanessa before she could come too close to Hailey’s bedside. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“I don’t know who you are but stay the hell out of this!” She was about to go to Hailey but Debbie blocked her. “Take your leave!” She pointed towards the door.

“There is no way I am leaving here without dealing with that bitch! It is because of her that my Husband is in surgery!”

“No babes, leave this to me” Debbie stopped Hailey before she could say anything. Instantly, She pulled Vanessa by her hair and dragged her out of Hailey’s ward, ignoring the cry of pain that left her lips.

Debbie only let go of her hair when they were outside the ward. She pushed Vanessa against the sofa that was

nearby.

“Do not ever mess with Hailey again!!”

“Who the hell are you and why did you pull my hair.” She rose to her feet, about to hit Debble on the cheek but Debbie caught her hand halfway and pushed her back on the sofa, this time around really hard.

“I told Hailey I was going to murder you with my bare hands if I should ever see you but the reason being casual with you is because we are at the hospital. Who the hell do you think you are to always pick on my

best friend?”

“She almost killed my husband! She is the reason Cole was shut in his arms.” Vanessa said at the top of her voice,

trying to hold back her tears.

“And you think we all don’t know this is all an act so no one is going to suspect you?”

“I don’t understand what you are talking about!”

“Come on girl. You can fool anyone but you can’t fool me. You and your fucking mother are the only enemy that Hailey has. I’m sure you both had a hand in this. You are here to make things up and act like you care so no one’s

going to suspect you.”

“I won’t tolerate you lying against me! Hailey is a murderer and a homewrecker. I will make sure she pays for what she did to me and Cole.”

“You know I really admire your guts. You sound so courageous despite being so guilty for a lot of things.”

“For heaven’s sake, if not that you are a freak, why would you blame Hailey for Cole running after her? Isn’t he her husband?”

“Cole is mine and we are going to get married. Kept your mouth off my family matter!” She glared at Debbie from where she was seated on the couch, breathing heavily.

Debbie shook her head in disbelief. “All I see is a bittered and failed woman. You are surprised that Hailey is still thriving hun? You and your mom try to take advantage but she is way ahead of you all.”

“Cole took a bullet for her but can he do the same for you?”

“Lies!!!! She pushed him. That is why the bullet hit him.”

Debbie had no idea when a peal of laughter escaped her lips. “Is that what the culprit told you?”

Vanessa continued to glare at Debbie.

“Your life is filled with nothing but sadness. You must be so pained that after all the schemes you tried to put in place, Cole still chooses Hailey over you.”

“Cole doesn’t like her. He likes me and I’m going to fight for him.”

“All the best baby! Because I know no one is going to end up with a manic like you.”

“What’s going on here?” Tyler approached the duo, holding a cup of coffee.

Vanessa saw him and rose to her feet.

“You can’t even keep your woman. You should be ashamed of yourself!”

“What the hell are you even doing here?” Tyler glared at her, trying his best to manage his anger.

“Cole is my husband and I am here to see him.”

“Whatever! Just make sure she doesn’t come near my Cole.” Vanessa said, storming off.

Tyler sighed, massaging his temple. He was still in his proposal suit but had taken off his jacket.

“I wish Hailey didn’t take over that damn company!” Tyler mumbled, taking closer steps to Debbie.

“I wish so too. They are the worst thing that could ever happen to her.”

“I was wondering how she got in when you were supposed to be outside.”

“Fuck! Did She disturb Hailey? I was getting insane downing in my thoughts so I had to get myself some coffee.”

“It’s fine. I was able to get rid of her before she became a nuisance.”

“Was she at the restaurant?” Debbie referred to Vanessa.

“I had no idea. I was so embarrassed and angry to take note of the people that were there. I’m sure I would be trending already online. Everyone’s going to think I am stupid and that I am deliberately chasing another man’s wife.”

“Cole went too far, I admit.”

“And I’m sorry, I know I was harsh to you earlier. Hailey explained all that happened.”

“It hurts to hear but I want you to know that all of this isn’t your fault.”

“And Hailey feels terrible about it too.”

“Just?” Debbie said, staring at him intently.

“Yeah, he lost quite some blood too. Look I don’t wish him bad, I just wish he would walk out of our lives forever. But again, I love the twins so much and I know they would want nothing more than to meet their biological father one day.”

“The point is, why didn’t I meet Hailey first instead of that gold digger?!!” Tyler sighed, plopping down on the

sofa.

“Mom, I messed up, Mom!” Vanessa cried over the phone.

“I got your text. I told you not to do anything without consulting me. What the hell came over you?”

“I don’t know. I couldn’t control my temper. I felt so betrayed!” She sniffled

“He said he pulled the trigger at that bitch but Cole took the bullet in her place. I don’t know what the hell he was thinking! I mean he could have died!”

“Outside Cole’s ward! It’s the VIP section so I am the only one here.”

Connie sighed from the other end. “How is Cole now? Have you seen him?”

“I don’t know. The doctor is still with him. I think he is going to be okay.”

“I hope so and since we can’t change what happened. We might as well use this to our advantage.”

“You will be a loving doting wife to him while he recovers. You should be able to take advantage of him now. Perhaps tamper with his drugs and have your way with him. We need you to be pregnant for him. That way, he is going to forget about that bitch forever.”

“How long is it going to take before I get discharged?” Cole’s drowsy voice came through as he stared at the doctor with blurry eyes.

“It depends on how well you heal.”

“I feel fine. Only my head and my arm feel heavy.” Cole took a glance at the bandage on his arm.

“For now I can’t say but I will be able to give you a valid response in a few hours.”

The duo were interrupted by a nurse who walked in.

“You’ve got a visitor, Sir. Your wife.” She directed at Cole.

“I was just about to ask after her. Please let her in. I would love to see her.”

The nurse nodded, going to get Cole’s wife.

“How’s Hailey, Is she fine?”

The doctor seemed confused so Cole explained further. “We were brought in together.”

“For her to be here, that means she is awake. She was sleeping when I saw her last.”

The door flung open and Cole’s heart shattered by the sight of the person who walked in.

“Hi baby,” She had smiles all over her face as she approached Cole’s bedside.

Doctor Edward stared in confusion.
