Cole stood in shock as the two little boys hugged his legs as though their lives depended on it. He stared down at them, at Hailey, who was hardly looking into his eyes, then back at the boys.

Cole still felt numb. His brain was fuzzy and even though he still didn’t understand what was going on, the moment the four–year–olds freed themselves from his legs, he slowly crouched down towards them, staring at them, quietly taking in all of their features.

They were almost the same height but the one on the left was taller than the one on the right. They had the same hair color and he could see his eyes staring back at him in two pairs. They had smiles all over their faces revealing their dimples.

Before Cole could say anything, they threw themselves at him, hugging him, with their tiny arms around his neck. Even though Cole felt a big move in his heart, he found it hard to still say anything or return the hug.

“We missed you, Daddy.” Enzo grinned, pulling away from eyes of his lookalike in the

“We were getting sad that you won’t come to see us. Mommy said she was going to bring you.”

“Y….y….you both are twins?” Cole asked. As far as he knew, Hailey had two boys but never did it cross his mind that they were the same age.

The little boys nodded.

“I’m Ollie and this is Enzo. We are four years old.” He raised four fingers.

Cole was tempted to ask them how they knew he was their father but he stopped himself before the question could roll off his tongue. He didn’t want to say anything insensitive because they were young. Not that he knew exactly what to say. The resemblance they had with him told him everything that he needed to know.

“What’s your other name?” Cole couldn’t help but ask.

“Enzo Riley and Ollie Riley.” Enzo proudly introduced.

Cole’s heart felt as though it was going to burst with so much joy. Just a while ago, he was feeling miserable, wondering why the whole world was against him. But right now, he felt so much pride in his heart. He couldn’t believe he was a father to the most beautiful twins in the world. And that their mother was the woman he loved

most in the world.

“I’m sorry for not coming to see you both sooner. Please forgive me.”

“I am sorry for not coming with gifts.”

“It’s fine, daddy.” Enzo smiled.

“Yes, we are happy you are here to see us and take care of mommy too.” Ollie voiced out.

“Take care of mommy?” Cole asked, taking a glance at Hailey who seemed to be drowned in her own thoughts. Her eyes were on the twins rather than on Cole.

“Yes, Daddy, Mommy misses you. She wants you to cuddle her.” Enzo answered.

“And how can you tell that she misses me?”

“She cries to bed sometimes,” Ollie said with a sad face.

“It’s time to go the

bed,” Hailey announced, taking steps towards them.

The twins ran towards Cole who was still crouched down in their height. Cole generously embraced them.

“We want to stay with Daddy,” Enzo announced.

“Cole has to go!”

With a sad face, Ollie stared at his father. “Please don’t leave us, Daddy. We don’t want you to go.”

Cole had no idea when a smile crept to his lips. He leaned closer to the boys and kissed them on their foreheads. “I am not going anywhere, my love. I am here to say. I am never going to leave you all. Never!” Cole had no idea why he was saying the same thing multiple times. He had no idea when he brought his thumb to his face and wiped the tears off the corner of his eyes. Never had he been proud of himself for not giving up and constantly pestering Hailey.

“Daddy, can you read us a bedtime story and tuck us to bed?” Enzo asked with pleading eyes.

“We can show Daddy our toys before he tucks us in,” Ollie suggested.

“Yes, I’m in. I will do everything you ask of me.” Cole smiled.

“Oh, no, there is no way he is coming inside this house!” Hailey said sternly, referring to Cole.

“Why Mommy? Enzo asked.

“Are you mad at Daddy?‘ Ollie said but Hailey said nothing as she continued to glare at Cole. The kids saw that.

Ollie turned to his father. “Mommy is mad at you.”

“I think so!” Cole mumbled, hardly paying attention to Hailey’s glare.

“That means you have to do something sweet for her,” Enzo said,

“Yes, Daddy. Buy her chocolates, take her on a date, and cuddle her.” Ollie suggested.

A smile crept to Cole’s lips, feeling so proud of his boys.

“I am not missing anyone and I don’t need anyone to buy me gifts or flowers. It is time for bed, boys. Cole has to leave. He has important people waiting for him.”

“Daddy, is that true?” Enzo asked this time around.

“No baby, Mommy is just trying to push me away.”

“Please don’t push Daddy away, Mommy. We want him to tuck us to bed.”

Hailey exhaled, not knowing what to do or say anymore. And she didn’t want to act violently before her boys.

Cole rose to his feet and the twins ushered him inside. They showed him all of their toys and played together while Hailey watched them from afar over a glass of alcohol, trying to calm herself.

The boys got exhausted and requested that Cole tuck them in. They led him to their room.
