Chasing My Ex-wife Back
Chapter 40
One Week Later.
After searching for her mother everywhere, Vanessa finally found her mother in the garden, seated and flipping through a magazine, over a glass of wine.
âThere you are! I thought you went out.â Vanessa said, approaching Connie, and taking a seat beside her.
âNot yet. What is it? You look grumpy.â Connie put the magazine aside, turning her attention to her daughter.
Iâm worried.â Vanessa started to say, fiddling with her hands.
âAbout what?â
Today makes it one week since I posted about the baby on my socials. I have not heard a word from Cole. He hasnât reached out to me nor did he like my post, admit or retract it. His silence worries me so much.â
â
I have a Doctorâs appointment this week. I want him to come with me but I donât know how to tell him. I doubt if he is going to pick up my calls and I donât know if I am ready to face him physically. Plus Dad still insists that I stay away from him.â
âI would have preferred that he reacted. His silence confuses me so much.â
âOh, you are just overthinking.â
âDidnât you see how the news of this baby went viral? It was as though this baby was the joy the world had been waiting for. There is no way Cole would be able to deny you all after that. Not after that many Congratulations.â
âHe is probably shy and doesnât know how to approach you. You should go see him and tell him about the Doctorâs appointment.â
âNow?â
âI think you should see him in the office where he cannot deny you access.â
Vanessa nodded. âI would go get my car keys. See you later, Mom.â She kissed Connie on the cheek after which she took her leave.
Cole snapped out of his thoughts when a knock came through on the door.
âCome in.â He answered, not looking up from his laptop.
The door opened. The person stepped in and shut the door.
âHave you gotten any response from Hayes and Co?â Cole said, looking up, only to come face to face with Vanessa.
He frowned. âWhat are you doing here?â At that moment, it dawned on him that he hadnât kept measures in place not to allow Vanessa anywhere near his office.
âCaâ¦can we talk?â She tried not to get nervous.

âI have nothing to talk to you about Take your leave before I do something that we both regret
Please she pushed
Stay the hell away from me, Cole said at the top of his voice.
Twonât take too truch of your time.â Vanessa mumbled. She took slow steps towards Coleâs table ignoring his glare. She sat one visitor y chair opposite his desk.
âYou look terribleâ Vanessa voiced out and she wasnât even capping. Anyone who knew Cole Matthis knew he abworys looked good. But now he had bags under his eyes, he looked sleep deprived and his hair was all over the place
âMy doctorâs appointment is tomorrowâ
âPlease tell me you are dying so I can actually have some peace.â
âDo do you really wish me deadâ Vanessa said, trying to stop her eyes from feeling itchy with tears.
Yes. In fact, that is the best gift God could give me right now so I can finally have some peace.â
âWell, thatâs sad because I am not dying. Itâs a Doctorâs appointment for our baby.â
âYou have to be there.
Cole said nothing, staring at Vanessa
Your child has a father Go meet him,â
âYou are the father. Cole. We had sex the other night when you were drunk. I know this is unexpected for us but I need you to be there for me.
âOh please shut that trap. Youâve got the Congratulations of your fans and the internet. That should keep you going, right?â
âPlease donât use that against me, Cole. What happened that day was very traumatic. You almost choked me to death. I was feeling so low and making that post and receiving so much love from it felt like the right thing to do. calmed me and assured me that I wasnât worthless.â
The beautiful prayers under the post got to me the most. People wished us well and they are excited to see our wedding pictures.
âWe are good together. Cole. Please donât give up on us.â
âWe will have a DNA test done when the baby is born. Just so we can confirm that you are the father, I have never cheated on you, Cole.â She sniffled.
âAre you done with your speech?
She shook her head. âCome with me tomorrow, please.â
âIâve got better things to do.â
âCome on, Cole. What could be more important than your family?â

Chapter 40
âIâm no fool, Vanessa. The fact that I am being gentle with you doesnât mean Iâve got no good sense of reasoning know what to do to disgrace you about the lies you posted on your page the other day. My silence doesnât mean 1 am into you. It is because I chose my peace of mind over your liesâ
âGet out of my office or I will have the securities throw you out.â
âPlease donât treat me that way. I love you, Cole. Letâs make our relationship work.
Cole said nothing. He turned his attention to his laptop, typing away.
âAre you treating me like this because of Hailey? You want to give up me and your child. Whatâs so damn special about her?â
Having heard enough, Cole picked up his phone on the desk beside him and typed for a while.
Vanessa could sense what he just did. For someone who recently posted on social media as though her life was perfect, the last thing she wanted was for people to see the security walking her out of Coleâs office.
She rose to her feet, picking up her handbag from his desk. This isnât over!â She glared at Cole before storming out of his office.
Almost immediately, Coleâs assistant, Laurel, came in, standing not too far from the door.
âInform all the securities not to ever allow Vanessa into this buildingâ
âMiss Vanessa?â Laurel asked, shocked.
Cole glared at her.
âOkay, sir. I will inform the securities.â
âDid you hear back from the pilot?â
Yes, sir. The jet will be ready for departure at 11 pm.â
