Return of the Crowned Heiress Chapter 347
Return of the Crowned Heiress
Stephan hesitated. He wanted to shield his sister from the truth, afraid the details would be too much for her to handle. But Imogen knew him too well.
âDonât even think about lying to me!â she snapped. âTell me everything. I can handle it.â
Her hands gripped the edge of the blanket tightly, her sightless eyes filled with an unyielding resolve and searing hatred. âOnce you find the culprit, Iâll kill them myself!â
Stephan paused, his expression darkening. After a moment, he said slowly, âThe killer hasnât been identified yet. The trailâs gone cold. But the lead we have points to a faction operating in Khogend.â
He stopped, gauging her reaction before continuing, âThere was something on that ship- something incredibly valuable. It was worth more than just money. People would kill for it.â
Imogen froze.
âArchie wasnât just your fiancé,â Stephan said, his voice heavier now. âBefore that, he was my man. That shipment⦠It was a highâstakes operation. I needed someone I could trust implicitly, and Archie volunteered.â
He looked away as if reliving that decision. âHe even joked about it being his last mission as my subordinate, saying heâd be retiring from my service to become my brotherâinâlaw.â
Stephanâs fists clenched at his sides. âI agreed. I also sent decoy ships to confuse any potential threats. But somehow, the intel got leaked. They went straight for the real ship, slaughtered everyone, and took the cargo. Archie didnât stand a chance.â
His voice dropped to a chilling whisper. âThe more I dig, the more the trail points back to Khogend. And⦠it might have ties to the Fuller family.â
Stephan didnât elaborate further, keeping some details to himself.
âKhogendâ¦â Imogen murmured, her brows furrowing together. âYouâve been spending so much time there lately. Itâs all connected, isnât it?â
âYes,â he admitted.
Imogenâs shoulders sagged slightly at that, her griefâs weight evident. But instead of breaking down, she turned to guilt.
âThis is my fault,â she muttered. âYouâre already dealing with so much, and Iâve been adding to your stress. Iâm sorry, Stephan.â
Stephan exhaled, the tension in his shoulders easing a fraction. âItâs fine. Just focus on your recovery. Let me handle the rest. Iâll make sure you get the justice you deserve.â
Imogen nodded, her hand instinctively cradling her belly. Her fiancé might be gone, but the

child she carried was a piece of him. It was a reason to keep fighting.
Just as Stephan turned to leave, Imogen called out again, stopping him in his tracks. âStephan, take Johanna with you!â
His eyes narrowed. âNo.â
âSheâs Archieâs sister,â Imogen pressed, her voice soft but insistent. âNo one wants justice for him more than she does. If thereâs anything she can do to help, she should be there.â
âNo,â Stephan repeated firmly, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.
Imogen gently nudged Johanna forward, giving her a meaningful look.
Johanna stepped up, her eyes redârimmed with tears. âStephan, I promise I wonât be a burden. Please, let me come. I miss my brother so much.. just want to help.â
Her voice cracked, and tears rolled down her cheeks, splashing onto the polished floor. Her vulnerability, paired with the desperation in her eyes, made her look heartbreakingly pitiable.
Imogen sighed, her tone softening as she played the role of mediator. âStephan, please. Do it for me. I take her as my sister, just as Archie was my family.â
Johanna immediately picked up on, the cue and chimed in, her voice trembling, âYes, Imogen is my sister. And you, Stephan⦠I promise Iâll be good. Please, just give me a chance.â
Between the two womenâs pleading, Stephan felt cornered. He could dismiss Johannaâs requests without a second thought, but Imogenâs quiet heartbreak was a different story altogether. He couldnât say no to his sister.
