Return of the Crowned Heiress Chapter 405
Return of the Crowned Heiress
It was a seemingly random question, yet Dexterâs reaction was anything but. He abruptly turned his head and started coughing violently. He couldnât catch
s breath, and his face turned bright red.
Fortunately, Kayla came back with the glass of water. âHere, take a sip of water to calm down.â
Dexter finished the entire glass before finally catching his breath.
âDad, whatâs wrong?â Kayla asked in confusion.
âItâs nothing. Kayla, itâs getting late. Go back to your room and get some rest. Your mother and I are about to go to bed as well.â He grabbed Myra and quickly headed toward their bedroom.
It was the first time Dexter had lost his composure in front of Myra. It was as if something was chasing him. His expression turned panicked, and his steps were unsteady. Upon closer inspection, he was even trembling,
He was afraid. But what was he afraid of?
Kayla frowned. Even the threat of bankruptcy hadnât scared Dexter this much. Something must have happened while she was away getting water.
Her eyes flickered, and she silently followed them.
Myra was confused by Dexterâs sudden urgency. She whined as he pulled her into the bedroom, âWhat are you doing? Why are you in such a rush?â
But Dexter wasnât in the mood for romance. He anxiously asked, âWho told you that?â
âTold me what?â Myra was puzzled.
âThe part about me stealing something. Who told you that?â Dexter pressed.
âDid you really steal something? What did you steal?â Myraâs expression shifted. âYou didnât cheat on me, did you?â
Dexter nearly choked again. His wifeâs suspicious glare made him sweat even more profusely.â
âWhy are you acting like a thief? If you wanted something, couldnât we just have bought it? Why did you need to steal it?â Myraâs confusion grew.
âBecause it couldnât be boughtâ¦â Dexter wore a pained expression as though the situation was too complicated to explain. âItâs a priceless treasure.
âWhat is it? Just tell me already!â Myra was anxious.
Dexter sighed and explained, âRemember last year when I attended that yacht party? I even hired a new team of bodyguards to go with me for safety reasons. Well, that night⦠something happened.â
Dexterâs mind drifted back to that fateful evening
â
Dexter was invited to a grand yacht party that was attended by all sorts of prominent figures from all over. The event was a hub of activity, with guests socializing and negotiating deals. There were dancers performing as well as young men hired to entertain wealthy women. The place was filled with the sound of glasses clinking, toasts being exchanged, and buzzing conversations.
Dexter himself had been toasted repeatedly, drinking far more than he should have. Feeling dizzy, he left the cabin to get some fresh air and sober up.
As he wandered to the stern, he saw something that sobered him instantly. There was a figure floating in the sea. The person was covered in blood and seemed gravely injured.
Dexter froze before immediately springing into action. He threw a rope down, urging the person to grab it so that he could pull them up.
But the person was too weak. Halfway up, they lost their strength and began to slip. Dexter was about to call for help when the injured person shook their head. Summoning their last bit of energy, they handed Dexter something and begged, âPlease deliver this item to the Russell family in Seldvale. You must make sure it reaches Stephan Russell! Iâm begging you!â
