Return of the Crowned Heiress Chapter 554
Return of the Crowned Heiress
The bodyguard entered after knocking and placed the breakfast on the table before quickly leaving
After freshening up, Felicia walked out. The breakfast took up the entire table
After finishing her meal, she wiped her mouth and headed to the delivery room. As expected, Stephan was already waiting there.
Felicia approached silently, but Stephan noticed her immediately. He reached out and pulled her close. âYou were complaining about being hungry last night. Did you eat breakfast?â
âI did.â Felicia then teased, âHow did you know it was me? What if you had mistaken someone else for me?â
âThatâs impossible,â Stephan said confidently. âHow could I not recognize my own wife?â
Felicia was at a loss for words. Fine, he got her there.
For some reason, she pressed, âBut what if⦠What if one day, you canât recognize me?â
Stephan pondered her question. Then, he chuckled and shook his head. âIf that ever happens, it means Iâm dead â
âDonât say that!â Neither of them knew at the time that this casual exchange would one day become a haunting prophecy.
Feliciaâs heart skipped a beat. She quickly covered Stephanâs mouth with her hand. But he simply laughed and kissed her hand.
Felicia stared at him. His handsome features, the curve of his lips, and his every word and gesture struck a chord within her. She vowed she wouldnât let him be blind forever. She would find a way to cure his eyes no matter the cost.
By noon, after around 16 hours in the delivery room, Imogen successfully gave birth to a healthy baby boy. When the nurse came out holding the newborn, the baby had already been cleaned and wrapped in a towel.
Being premature, the babyâs cries were faint, and his body was small and frail. His red skin made him look like a monkey wrapped snugly in the blanket.
Stephan hesitated to touch the baby as he couldnât see. Upon hearing the good news that both mother and child were safe, his expression softened, and he breathed a sigh of relief. âI canât hold him. Will you hold him instead, Mrs. Russell?â
Felicia froze before realizing he was addressing her. She immediately stumbled back, waving her hands
No way. It wasnât that she didnât like children. She just feared the babyâs mother might come out and tear into her later!
After all, Imogen was not someone to be trifled with. She was scary when she was angry, and Feliciaâs survival instincts kicked in
Stephan arranged for others to take care of the baby. Soon, Imogen was wheeled out of the delivery room and transferred to her ward. The baby was brought to her side.
Stephan wanted to check on his sister, but Felicia found an excuse not to follow. If Imogen saw her, she would likely get emotional again, and things could escalate into another confrontation
Stephan understood. He sighed and patted Feliciaâs head. âIâll take care of it. Sorry you have to endure this.â
Felicia pushed him gently. âGo on.â
If Stephan had let go of Feliciaâs hand or asked her to step back to avoid worsening the conflict back when Imogen had threatened to harm herself, Felicia would have felt aggrieved. But Stephan hadnât done that.
In a situation where it seemed impossible to satisfy both sides, he made a different choice. Even at the cost of himself, he had never let go of her. Felicia sighed. How could she not fall for him?
