Return of the Crowned Heiress Chapter 605
Return of the Crowned Heiress
Imogen rubbed her temples, âGo ahead. What is it?
The maid confessed, âMs. Russell, when we changed Mr. Calebâs clothes earlier, we noticed a fresh scratch on his skin. It was caused by a fingernail and seems to
have been made very recently!â
âWhat?â Imogen thought she had misheard. She instinctively responded, âHow could you be so careless?â
âMs. Russell, it wasnât us! All of us have kept our nails trimmed short and smooth for Mr. Caleb. Thereâs no way we could have scratched him!â the maid defended.
âSo, youâre sayingâ¦â Imogen froze, her mind racing. Apart from herself, the maids, and the nanny, only two other people had been near Caleb recently.
One was Archie, and the other was Johanna.
âMr. Rosario didnât hold the baby just now. Only Ms. Johanna lingered by the cradle,â the maid added cautiously.
As Imogenâs expression darkened, the maid braced herself. âPerhaps Ms. Johanna accidentally scratched Mr. Caleb while playing with him. Her nails mightâve been too long-â
âThatâs enough!â Imogenâs voice cut through the room
The maid quickly soothed him with practiced ease until he drifted back to sleep.
The nanny, standing to the side, was tense.
Now, she understood why the maid had refrained from mentioning this earlier and Instead chose to report it privately. It was because Imogen wouldnât believe them otherwise.
After all, one was her husband, and the other was her sisterâinâlaw. They were too close for her to take the word of outsiders over them.
The maid remained silent.
After a long pause, Imogen closed her eyes. No one could tell if she believed the maid or not. She finally sighed. âFrom now on, keep a closer watch. Someone must stay by Mr. Calebâs side at all times, okay?â
âYes,â the maid replied.
Imogen slumped onto the bed. For a moment, she felt a chill running down her spine. Then, she remembered something and began rummaging through drawers. The maid hesitated âMs. Russell, what are you looking for? Do you need help?â
Imogen didnât answer. She opened one drawer after another, her hands carefully feeling around inside. Finally, in the third drawer, she found a small porcelain bottle. Inside were two pills.
These were the pills that Felicia had sent her not long ago. She said that if Imogen took them, her eyesight would return within two hours.
Imogen clenched the bottle tightly, then opened it and poured out the pills. Without any hesitation, she swallowed them.
The wait was agonizing. Two hours felt like an eterity.
Imogen leaned back against the headboard and, without realizing it, drifted off to sleep. When she woke, the first thing she heard was the sound of her baby crying. Imogen opened her eyes and froze.
What greeted her was her cozy room. Beside the bed stood a cradle. It rocked gently, and inside lay a tiny baby. Caleb, having just been fed, was happily babbling to
himself.
Imogen covered her mouth, overwhelmed by disbelief. Was this a dream? she could see! She could actually see!
She had been blind for 18 years and yeamed for the day her vision would be restored so that she could finally look at her childâ¦
Imogen slapped a hand over her mouth. She was so overwhelmed that tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
The maid asked anxiously, âMs. Russell, whatâs wrong?â
