Return of the Crowned Heiress Chapter 684
Return of the Crowned Heiress
Maurice was knocked out and tied up. A torn piece of fabric was shoved into his mouth to stop him from biting his tongue. His current state was utterly pathetic. Yet not a single person on the scene could find it in themselves to laugh.
One of Mauriceâs men asked cautiously. âMs. Fuller, is Mr. Glovers, better now?â
âOf course not. Nothingâs ever that simple.â Felicia rubbed her temples, feeling an ache creeping in
She had checked his pulse earlier, and she could tell that Maurice had used a modified version of the rain venomous creatures on himself and her. This variation was brutally effective. Once the link was established, there was no way to break it.
This meant Maurice had essentially taken her place, shouldering all the torment and eventual fatality from the Heart Eater inside her.
There was no cure.
If this played out to its grim conclusion, Mauriceâs life would be the price. How would she ever repay that?
Mauriceâs men knew about the dangers. When Maurice insisted on going through with the modified twin venomous creatures, they had already heard the worstâcase scenario from the familyâs medical expert. It could very well be a oneâway ticket to hell
Still, hope was a stubborn thing. As long as Maurice was alive and moving, they clung to the idea that things might not spiral to the worst outcome. Now, all that fragile hope was shattered âSo⦠youâre saying thereâs no way to save him?â Mauriceâs men exchanged pale, stricken glances One particularly loyal bodyguard looked like he was about to cry
Their boss was still alive, yet it felt like a death sentence had already been declared. Seeing Marc witch in pain, his brows furrowing even in unconsciousnes, filled them with a suffocating sense of helplessness.
Felicia didnât answer directly, but her silence was enough of a reply. She had already made up her mind and was quietly working through her thoughts.
Scarlet broke the silence, âBoss, we should get out of hereâ
With Stephan and his men gone and Imogen being rushed to the hospital, the Russel familyâs forces had fully retreated. Even the helicopter was nowhere in sight.
Still, Scarlet hadnât forgotten about the other dangerous parties lurking on this mountain. If they can into them again, things could get dice
Yet Felicia shook her head âNo. Weâll wait a bit mone.â
âWait for what?â Scarlet wondered, unsure of what Felicia had in mind. She had a suspicion but didnât dare
Het question was answered roughly 15 minutes later when the sound of approaching vehicles cut through the tense air.
The three men from the Glovers family immediately stood up on high alert, their hands instinctively reaching for their guns. They were going into defensive mode.
Several SUVs appeared and came to a halt about 30 feet away, kicking up some dust and loose gravel in its wake.
From the parked SUVs, two figures emerged. One was the robed man, his expression twisted with fury. Beside him was Pece, who maintained his gentlemanly facade.
Peteâs smile deepened as he looked at Felcu, his tone laced with surprise and mockery. âWell, well, well. Were you waiting for me, Felicia
Though the others were presem, he spoke as if Felicia was the only person there. His words were deliberately suggestive, dripping with an intimate familiarity meattle het.
To someone who didnât know the muth, it mightâve sounded like there was some hidden connection between them.
Feliciaâs face twisted briefly in disgust before turning to its usual calm Ignoring his insinuations, she cut straight to the point. âYouâve gone through a hell of a lot of trouble to set all this up. Whatâs your pitch? Iâm here now, so spit it out. I donât have the patience for your nonsense.ââ
Peteâs smile faltered for a moment before he sighed softly, his gare turning thoughtful. âYouâre as sharp as ever. I shouldâve expected nothing less.
âMore empty words, Felicia thought. She sneered, then spun on her heel to leave
Scarlet immediately followed, her steps cautious as she kept her eyes on Pete and the robed man. The men from the Glovers family, carrying Mauriceâs unconscious body, also began retreating
The robed man was visibly fuming when he saw their reaction, his glare boring into Pete as if to say, âCan you handle this or not?â pete raised his hand in a mock gesture to surrender, forcing a strained smile before calling out, âWait, Felicia! Letâs negotiate a dealâ
