“I want to get back everything I’ve lost during the last six years.”

My chest was stabbed with the sadness and pain that was in Reuben’s heart. I witnessed the love in Reuben’s eyes for Wyatt and Lori, aware that there was probably more that I could not see. He did not want to trap them, snatch, or steal them away from me, he just craved their love. I could not even blink to escape the weakness that Reuben had

“Don’t I deserve that much, Willow?” he whispered, barely brushing my fingers with his. My heartbeat quickened at his question. He hooked his fingers in mine, entangled our emotions, and reignited our buried passion for each other. His beautiful soft green eyes were almost begging me to hold his hand as he traveled down this path that he had refused to walk in six years ago.

He silently gazed at me waiting for a reply, his eyes desperately waiting for my permission. My fingers subconsciously brushed against his fingers as I replied, “As long as you don’t hurt them…‘ I murmured.

A small smile appeared on Reuben’s l*ps at my unexpected permission as he hooked. another finger into mine. My cheeks heated and I lowered my eyes. I wasn’t any more. sure as to why I had given him permission that would clearly allow him to get closer to my children but Reuben’s sincerity had convinced me. I never thought that behind that smile and calm demeanor, he hid such pain.

“Why did you give me permission?” he asked in a lowly, as I watched his fingertip brushing over mine again. “Did you feel my pain?”

I slowly raised my eyes to meet his gentle one, “This is the pain that you earned all on your own six years ago when you rejected our babies, Reuben,” I replied, hooking another finger with his. “You can never go back to the past and fix the horrible mistake that you made,” Reuben’s eyes grew sadder. “I don’t know whether you can get back everything that you’ve lost or not but since you desire redemption maybe you will not lose the future…”

The sadness in Reuben’s eyes vanished upon hearing me as he completely hooked my fingers with his as a small smile played on his l*ps. “I vow that I will not lose the future,” he promised, his happiness revealing the most handsome side of him that quickened my heartbeat again.

I slowly pulled my hand back and got out of the bed, “I… I am going to take a shower,”

with quick steps, I made my way to the bathroom and locked myself inside without looking back.

Leaning against the door, I closed my eyes, feeling Reuben’s presence on the other side. of the door. I thought he would say something but he remained mute for a long time like he knew I was there too. A while later I heard his footsteps retreating from the door. as he exited the bedroom.

Moving away from the door, I stepped into the shower but my mind was filled with only thoughts of Reuben and his words. My heart was still beating faster at his claim of not losing the future. I did not know if what I had done was wrong or right. I was not even sure if my decision would end up giving me more pain, or end up becoming just another regret of my life but at that moment…I followed my stupid heart. I bit my l*p and clenched my chest. “What the hell was I doing?”

A while later an Omega knocked on the door. She had come to deliver my clothes that obviously Reuben had sent to me. I could not help but frown to see my bra and underwear among the pile. That man! Every drop of water on my skin felt sensitive and this feeling helped distract me.

After finishing my shower and getting dressed, I exited the bathroom only to find Reuben sitting on the sofa with his laptop and a delicious breakfast sitting on the table in front of him.

He seemed quite serious when he worked. Once he saw me, he closed his laptop, “Come here. Let’s eat,” he gestured.

I quietly sat on the sofa across from him, clearly starving as I had not eaten dinner last night either. To my surprise, my breakfast consisted of a fruit salad, a glass of milk, and half of an omelet. It had all clearly been prepared by Reuben. Like I had predicted, his overbearing button was pushed due to the discovery of my weakness which was not a big deal. He was taking it as a serious health issue.

I glanced at him from the corner of my eye, instantly getting caught by his knowing

look.

“Do you have anything to say?” He asked, taking a sip of his coffee. Being in no mood for an argument, I just started eating my food that was incredibly delicious even though it was a simple breakfast. A look of satisfaction crossed Reuben’s face at my obedience.

As he picked up his fork to eat his omelet Lori’s voice bounced around the room. “Mommy…” she raced into the bedroom. Her hair was down but she was dressed and seemed to have taken a shower which surprised me. It was still eight so how was it that the children had woken up without me going to wake them up, give them a bath, and

“Come to daddy,” Reuben stretched his arm to her. She immediately raced over to him. “Did you finish your breakfast?” Reuben brushed his thumb on her soft cheek.

“Yes, but my brother is still eating downstairs,” she replied in a childish voice.

“Good,” Reuben smiled, pulling Lori up his lap.

I blinked at the scene in front of me. Wait, could it be that Reuben went to wake up and dress the children while I was taking a shower? He even fed them and got them ready for kindergarten.

“Why were you looking for mommy?” Reuben sweetly asked Lori.

“Mommy does my hair for me everyday, but she was not in her room so I came here looking for mommy,”

put my fork back down on the plate with a smile, “come here, I will do your hair.”

“You eat your breakfast. I will do Lori’s hair,” Reuben remarked, taking a comb and the hair elastic from Lori’s hand.

“You will do it?” I was surprised.

“Yes, I can!” he stated proudly, starting combing Lori’s hair,

“Lori, do you want daddy to do your hair?” he asked her.

“Yes, I do,” she nodded happily.

Reuben looked twice as happy. I stared at him as he separated her hair into two portions very professionally then collected one side of her hair. He indeed had some difficulty and stopped a couple of seconds as he recalled something before he continued. Lori sat on his lap moving and playing with her puzzle. She moved her legs. like she always did but Reuben was too engrossed in the hair to notice. My heart warmed at the sight in front of me. Reuben… he really looked like a father.

As this thought crossed my mind, I was surprised at myself. What was I thinking? I continued watching Reuben as he took her cartoon hair elastic bands and finally made two beautiful buns in Lori’s hair. I blinked in surprise. She looked absolutely adorable. Did he practice that or something?

“Done,” Reuben grinned happily. “My princess is ready for kindergarten,” he k*ssed her cheek.

“Thank you daddy,” Lori k*ssed him back on the cheek then raced to me for a k*ss.

“Mommy, I am ready!”

“Willow, I am here to take children to the kindergarten,” Mia shouted from downstairs.

“Let’s go, Aunt Mia is here,” I gave Lori a goodbye k*ss and got up holding her hand. “Daddy…” Lori stretched her other little hand towards Reuben.

Reuben smiled, taking her other hand as we started walking her out of the room. At that moment, Wyatt was coming towards the hallway. He paused looking at the three of us with big watery eyes, “Daddy only loves Lori. He forgot me. I want to hold hands with mommy and daddy!” he pouted.

Reuben laughed and lovingly rubbed his head, “Daddy loves both Wyatt and Lori. That’s why we were coming to get you. Now quick, hold your sister’s hand,” he gestured to Wyatt.

Wyatt’s face lit up as he quickly joined us. The children were sandwiched between us while I held Wyatt’s hand and Reuben held Lori’s. Both of them were just delighted over the fact that they were holding hands with Reuben and 1.

“I’ve always wanted to hold hands with daddy and mommy like other kids,” Wyatt chippered as he continued talking with Lori.

Hearing them I glanced at Reuben who was already looking at me. This feeling was so different from anything I had experienced before. We… we looked like….

“What a beautiful family,” Mia’s cheerful voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked straight ahead to find her standing by the car grinning from ear to ear. She shot me a meaningful wink. I rolled my eyes. I knew she had gotten the wrong idea carlier.

“Eat your lunch and take care of each other,” I said to the children. They nodded and got in the car.

“Then we are leaving,” Mia smiled at Reuben and I.

“Drive safe,” Reuben remarked. As Mia got in the car and children began waving their hands at us, I felt someone’s eyes on me. It was the same feeling I had that last time that I had lived in the Emerald Bright Pack. My hand paused as I looked around. Once again, there was no one there but I could feel it. Their gaze and insanity. What was this feeling?

“Bye bye mommy and daddy,” Wyatt and Lori’s voices pulled me out of my thoughts.

I smiled and waved my hand at the vanishing car until I felt Reuben’s chest touching my back. “I never knew that sending children off to school felt this good. I want to do it again tomorrow.”
