Chapter 144
The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call
Chapter 144 The Hidden Motives
âI didnât let anything sl*p!â The middleâaged woman stood on the hillside and glanced around warily.
âYou made it clear not to spill anything when you left.â
Yvette narrowed her eyes. âBut what if they offer you money to spill everything?â
âWeâll pocket the cash,â Fanny retorted with a sardonic grin. âBut weâve been feeding them false leads.
Plus, there are others who paid to keep her whereabouts hidden.â
Yvette felt a wave of relief wash over her. âMom, you did the right thing.â
As it turned out, the middleâaged woman was none other than Fanny Yaleman, who had initially taken
the wrong child.
Fanny teared up when Yvette finally called her âMomâ after so long. âYvette, we did everything you
asked,â she said. âAnd thankfully, you warned us that admitting what happened could land us in jail for
human trafficking. We owe you for that.â
âGot it.â Yvette got the information she needed and swiftly changed the subject. âMom, we need to stay
alert. Once this whole situation blows over, Iâll come fetch you and Dad to live in the city.â
Fannyâs eyes lit up. âReally? Then your brother has to come too! You promised to buy him a house!â
âAbsolutely,â Yvette reassured with a grin. âJust relax and enjoy yourselves.â
Yvette certainly wouldnât be buying him a house. She also couldnât help but disdainfully regard them as
a bunch of freeloaders.
Despite her dissatisfaction with them leeching on her, Yvette comforted her mother. â Remember, donât
reveal anything about me. If it comes down to it, just claim her as your own daughter.â
âDonât worry, Iâll do as you asked,â Fanny assured, then lowering her voice she asked, âBut Yvette,
whose child is she? How did she cause such a commotion?â
Yvetteâs eyes turned frigid. âIt doesnât matter whose child she is. If they find out, I canât protect you and
Dad.â
âWeâll make sure they never find out,â Fanny declared confidently. âAfter all, this village is packed with
our people.!!
Yvette nodded knowingly. With a smile, she said, âWith the village head supporting us, everything
should be fine. Mom, if thereâs an emergency, remember to reach out to me first.

âOf course, darling!â Fannyâs focus then turned to her son. âAnd what about house?â
Yvetteâs gaze sharpened. âOnce youâre here, Iâll take you to choose one.â
your brotherâs
Of course, that was just to placate Fanny, and Yvette certainly wouldnât be buying that house for her
brother. After hanging up the phone and powering off her device, she finally felt at
ease.
With everything settled, whatever commotion Wynter stirred wouldnât make a difference.
And the status of the young lady of the Yates family belonged to her alone.
At the Empathy Clinic in Waterview Alley, Margaret, wielding a cane, promptly ushered Wanda out
before she could even step into the yard.
The neighbors watched without intervening, as they too shared a dislike for Wanda.
âGet out!â Margaret, unlike before, had no desire to engage with these scoundrels.
The typically pampered Wanda exclaimed, âMy Chanel coat! Mom, could you please stop acting
irrationally? Have you ever seen another motherâinâlaw treat her daughterâinâlaw in such a manner?â
âYouâre up to no good!â Margaretâs eyes darkened. âWhat do you want from me this time?â
Ewan tried to keep his cool despite his frustration. He intervened, âMom, we simply want to have a
conversation with Wynter. Itâs not suitable to discuss this out here where everyone can see. Letâs go
inside.â
âOh?â Wynter, clad in black pants and a white Tâshirt, walked over. A baseball cap crowned her head,
accentuating her captivating dark eyes. âWhat do you want to talk to me about?â she asked.
