Understanding his concerns, she looked at the boxes in front of her.

This wasn’t something they could ignore. They had to talk.

“Honey, let’s unpack these later. I want to talk to you first.”

Andrew pressed his lips into a thin line.

He knew buying only baby supplies for a girl had been wrong. As a mother, it was natural for Madisyn to focus on their child, and as a father, he should be patient and supportive, not add to the tension. He understood that in his head. But in reality, the feelings still stung. That frustration had led him to buy these things—not just for the baby, but as a way to express what he couldn’t say outright.

But Madisyn saw right through him.

His fingers trembled slightly. She was already carrying so much, working so hard—he couldn’t let his emotions weigh her down.

With that thought, Andrew sat down beside her on the sofa.

He was bracing himself to apologize, to tell her he wouldn’t let these thoughts get to him again.

But before he could say a word, Madisyn reached for his hand and placed it gently on her belly.

His breath caught. The second his palm touched her, he felt it—the tiny, active movement of their baby.

Madisyn’s gaze was warm, steady. “Honey, whether it’s a boy or a girl, this is our baby. We should both welcome them with open hearts. As for what you just said… you’re right.” She paused, her tone turning soft with regret. “Lately, I have been so…”

Focused on the baby, I haven’t paid enough attention to you. I’m sorry, love.” Her sincerity struck Andrew like a wave.

“But don’t overthink it. Yes, our baby is important to me, but you are even more important. If something bothers you, tell me instead of keeping it bottled up. I’d rather know and fix it than have you silently hurting.”

Andrew stared at her, momentarily stunned.

Madisyn took his hand in both of hers. “You’re the person I chose to spend my life with. No one will ever matter to me the way you do. We’re husband and wife first—before anything else, even before being parents. You are my home. Do you understand? So don’t ever think I’ll forget about you just because we have a baby. That won’t happen, I promise.”

Then, without hesitation, she leaned in and kissed him.

The moment their lips met, something inside Andrew eased. The tension that had been weighing him down dissolved, replaced by warmth, by certainty.

When they finally pulled apart, his eyes were clear, his heart light. He wanted to make up for his earlier mistake.

“Babe, I was wrong. I’m sorry. I’ll buy a whole set of things for a boy too—”

Before he could reach for his phone, Madisyn stopped him with a quick hand on his wrist. “Don’t rush. The important thing is that we worked through this. We don’t even know the baby’s gender yet. Everything I designed works for either one. Let’s wait until the baby’s born, then you can go on a shopping spree.”

Andrew chuckled, nodding. “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
