Chapter 159
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 159:
All eyes were on Liza, who suddenly felt her whole body tense up with embarrassment.
Liza clenched her teeth and played the victim card. âI only did what I thought was best for the company. If you want me to leave, then let them fire me!â
âDo you think this isnât the companyâs decision?â the director responded with a chilling tone.
No sooner had he spoken than Liza got a call from the HR department.
The words from the other end of the line made Lizaâs vision blur, and she nearly collapsed. She was actually being fired by the HR department! Though the others couldnât hear the conversation, Lizaâs face said it allâshe was out.

Liza had indeed been fired!
Who would have guessed the company would act so decisively? Their views of Madisyn shifted; they now looked at her with a bit of fear.
Meanwhile, Liza was in total disarray. After all her efforts to climb up to the deputy director, she was not just leaving the companyâshe was being dismissed! Knowing the stain on her record would hinder her future job prospects deeply troubled her. How was she going to manage her mortgage payments now?
In a desperate move, Liza grabbed Madisynâs hand. âMadisyn, I admit my mistake. I was only joking with you. Please, have a word with them. It wasnât meant to be taken seriously; we were just joking.â
Madisyn coolly pulled her hand away. âIf I were the one who lost the bet, would you say it was just a joke?â
Liza certainly wouldnât!
Liza was at a loss for words but still attempted to defend herself, saying, âIf you were in my place, I wouldnât have asked you to leave either. My aim was just to push you to do better. Why would I want you fired?â
Teresa chimed in, âMadisyn, weâre all working together here. Donât be too severe. Give Liza a second chance.â
âReally, Madisyn, Iâll stop coming after you,â Liza begged, her eyes filled with a plea for mercy.
Madisynâs expression remained stoic. âYouâre getting what you deserve.â
With that, she started to tidy up her things.
Despair washed over Lizaâs face. She wanted to say more, but the director interrupted, âLiza, itâs time for you to gather your things and leave.â
âIâm not going anywhere!â
In her despair, Liza noticed Teresa nearby.
Of course! How could she forget? Teresa was from the influential Johns family!
Liza clutched Teresaâs hand tightly. âTeresa, you must help me! I only targeted Madisyn because she was picking on you. Teresa, youâre a Johns! A single word from you could stop them from firing me!â
She gazed at Teresa with hopeful eyes.
All eyes shifted to Teresa, curious to see if she would intervene on Lizaâs behalf.
Internally, Teresa was panicking. She wasnât the real Miss Johns, and she had no power to influence Lizaâs situation at the company!
âLiza, Iâll see what I can do,â Teresa replied, feigning empathy. She planned to later claim she was unsuccessful.
But Liza wasnât having it. âNo, Teresa, I need a solid commitment. Please, call your brother right now!â
Teresaâs expression darkened.
Damn it, how was she supposed to manage that?
âLiza,â Teresa said sternly, âIâm here to work properly, not to manipulate outcomes for others. My brother would be livid if he knew!â
Lizaâs grip loosened as she sank to the floor, a look of utter hopelessness in her eyes. âWhat am I supposed to do nowâ¦â
âLiza, you should head home for now. Iâll see if thereâs anything I can do,â Teresa said, offering insincere support to defuse the situation.
With no other alternatives, Liza could only nod, feeling defeated.
Once Liza had left her alone, Teresa shot Madisyn a frosty look. She hadnât anticipated Madisyn wielding any significant clout.
To distract herself, Teresa pulled out her phone and noticed a message in a group chat. During lunch, she approached Madisyn. âMadisyn, our schoolmates are organizing a reunion. Youâre planning to attend, arenât you?â
âNo,â Madisyn responded bluntly.
âHow can you miss it? Everyone is excited to see you. Iâve already told them youâd be there,â Teresa said.
âDid I ever confirm I would attend?â Madisyn gave Teresa a look that suggested she thought Teresa was being unreasonable.
Teresa pursed her lips. âItâs been so long. Donât you want to see how everyone is doing? Just come!â
âI wonât be going,â Madisyn insisted. She had only kept in touch with Susan and Giana from high school; the rest were hardly in her thoughts. Plus, Jennaâs presence would complicate matters.
Teresa gritted her teeth. She had assured Jenna she would bring Madisyn along. Without Madisyn, their plans would hit a snag.
Teresa and Jenna had both found Madisyn bothersome lately, and Teresa was itching to cause her some trouble.
âGilbert will be there too,â Teresa said casually, hoping to pique Madisynâs interest. Wasnât Madisyn into Gilbert?
Yet, Madisyn didnât show any interest.
Teresa was almost seething. Fine, sheâd find another way to ensure Madisyn made it to that reunion!
Madisyn, unaffected by Teresaâs efforts, concentrated on her tasks.
When quitting time arrived, she stood up promptly, eager to leave without delay. Teresa watched her with a scoff.
But soon, she also packed up to leave.
As Madisyn waited for the elevator, the doors parted, and a tall man emerged.
His striking, refined appearance and sharply defined features immediately drew everyoneâs attention.
