Chapter 211
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 211:
Daneâs usually composed and handsome features quickly turned stormy. He demanded, âSay that again!â The person on the other end seemed scared and remained silent for a while. Dane realized he was acting out of character, but he couldnât help himself.
âIâm sorry,â said the crying woman from the other end. âI canâtâ¦â
The sound of her crying immediately softened Dane, filling him with sadness. âIâve told you, as long as weâre together, Iâll handle everything else.â His voice was gentle yet shaky.
âIâm sorry,â the woman repeated.
Daneâs expression grew somber. âOkay. If thatâs your decision, I respect it.â The call ended. He reclined on the sofa, gazing out the window. Suddenly, the clear sky clouded over, and rain started pouring against the glass. The water streaked down the window, resembling tears at first glance⦠The world outside was engulfed in a downpour.
Madisyn was unaware of these developments. That evening, she and Elaine watched TV together. After Elaine retired to bed, Madisyn remained on the sofa, chatting with Jared. Jared was thrilled about her decision to move to Ansport.

Just then, a noise came from outside the door. Madisyn looked up to see Dane coming in. She was about to greet him when she noticed something was off. Dane was holding his suit jacket and walked in slowly. His usually calm face was flushed.
He had clearly had too much to drink. It was the first time Madisyn had seen her brother drink this heavily. She quickly got up and walked toward him. But before she got close, the strong scent of alcohol hit her, and she covered her nose, asking, âDane, why did you drink so much?â
Dane looked at Madisyn, cracked a smile, and said, âMadisyn.â
âYes, itâs me,â Madisyn replied, her brow furrowed. âWhatâs going on, Dane?â
Dane rarely drank to such an extent. Something must be wrong.
âIâm okay. Iâ¦â Daneâs strength seemed to falter, and he leaned on Madisynâs shoulder.
Madisyn worried that something serious had happened to her brother. Then she felt tears on her shoulder. She was shocked. Dane was crying?!
It was hard for Madisyn to picture her capable, accomplished brother crying.
âSusanâ¦â Dane whispered.
âDane, Iâm Madisyn,â she said, confused.
âSusanâ¦â Dane continued to murmur.
Clearly, Dane was far too intoxicated, so Madisyn helped him to his room. She laid Dane on the bed. He sprawled out comfortably, looking disheveled yet somehow still charming.
âLet me get you some water,â Madisyn said.
âSusanâ¦â Dane kept calling out.
Madisyn scowled. She couldnât help wondering if Dane had been hurt by a woman named Susan before. She decided she needed to talk to her parents about it tomorrow.
Madisyn fetched some water and helped Dane drink it. By then, it was almost midnight. Once Dane had drifted off to sleep, Madisyn, exhausted, headed back to her own room.
She received a call from Andrew. âMadisyn, are you busy?â Andrewâs voice was low and soothing.
âYes, my brotherâs drunk,â Madisyn explained. âHe keeps saying the name Susan. I think heâs really upset over this woman.â She knew she needed to do something to help her brother.
After a brief pause, Andrew mentioned, âDonât you have a friend named⦠Susan?â
Madisyn was taken aback. Andrewâs words seemed to spark a realization. But Dane and Susanâ¦
âI donât think itâs my Susan,â Madisyn responded. âThe two of them hardly ever meet. Plus, if my Susan was involved with my brother, she would have told me.â As she spoke, Madisynâs certainty waned. âI need to hang up. Iâm going to call Susan.â
Before Andrew could respond, she ended the call. Andrew felt somewhat helpless, already regretting mentioning Madisynâs friend.
Madisyn quickly dialed Susan. Surprisingly, Susan was also awake. âWhatâs up, Madisyn?â
Despite her efforts to sound normal, Madisyn could detect a slight nasal quality in Susanâs voice. Reflecting on Daneâs odd behavior tonight, Madisyn seemed to realize something.
âSusan, my brother was acting really odd today,â Madisyn said cautiously.
âYour brother?â Susan responded, her voice steady. âWhat happened to him?â
Madisyn explained, âHe drank a lot today. Iâve never seen him like this before. It was really unusual!â
Susan replied, âOh, really? It might be work-related.â
