Chapter 217
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 217:
Teresa turned back to Madisyn, her eyes wide with desperation. âMadisyn, I just want a way out! Canât you just let me go?â
âLet you go? I havenât done anything, and youâre asking me to let you go?â The absurdity of the plea only made Madisyn sneer.
A murmur rippled through the crowd, their gazes softening with pity as they watched the scene unfold. Some started to speak for Teresa. âThis poor girl has been driven to the edge, maâam. Canât you just let her go? If she really jumps, how will you ever live with yourself?â
âYeah, what could be more important than saving a life?â
âJust say something kind and convince her to come down!â
Madisynâs expression shifted slightly, and she cast a cold glance at Teresa before slowly stepping closer.
Teresa recoiled, her heart pounding in her chest. âDonât come any closer! If you do, I swear Iâll jump.â Madisynâs sneer returned, sharp and unforgiving. She could see that Teresa was just bluffing. After all, a cowardly woman like her didnât have the guts to jump.
Teresaâs breath hitched as Madisyn continued to approach. She squeezed her eyes shut, steeling herself for the plunge, but the sheer height made her stomach churn. Her legs buckled beneath her, and she collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.
Madisyn stood over her, staring down with contempt. âTeresa, youâre pathetic.â
Behind her, Andrewâs voice cut through the tension like a knife. âThis woman pretended to be a wealthy heiress to manipulate the employees at the Johns Group, and she was expelled for it. We didnât expect her to end up working here.â
The crowdâs sympathy swiftly turned to disdain as the truth sank in.
Your next journey starts at gⱯlnÏνð®âsâ¤ð¸oðº
Earlier, they didnât know the whole story and actually defended this woman. Now that the truth had come to light, their gazes hardened, and the whispers grew more venomous.
âTo think we felt sorry for her!â
âThe Johns Group wouldnât fire people without reason, so this girl must be a real piece of work.â
Fingers pointed, and the crowdâs judgment bore down on Teresa, who could only glare at Madisyn through her tears, her face twisted with hatred. âMadisyn, just you wait. Youâll pay for this!â
Madisynâs eyes were like ice as she replied, âNow itâs time for you to pay the price.â With that, she turned on her heel and left with Andrew, her steps unwavering.
Teresa was left to face the aftermath alone. Not only did she have to repay the store a million dollars, but she had also been fired. Her reputation was in tatters, making it nearly impossible to find work again.
As they walked away, Andrew suggested that they get the massage Madisyn had been longing for.
The spa was huge, with sleek interiors and a staff of young, attractive therapists waiting to attend to them.
âI want aââ
Before Madisyn could speak, Andrew interrupted her, his voice commanding. âAssign her a female therapist and a male one to me.â
Madisyn had little say in the matter, but she didnât mind. The masseuse assigned to her was amazing. The soothing kneads and rhythmic pressure melted away the soreness from the dayâs shopping, leaving her muscles relaxed and her mind at ease.
Later that evening, after a quiet dinner, they decided to take a stroll along the street. For a moment, it felt like they were the last two people in the world.
âAre you leaving Gemond soon?â Andrewâs voice broke the silence.
Madisyn nodded, her gaze fixed on the horizon. âYes, Iâll probably be heading to Ansport two days later.â
âAnsport does offer better resources, which will be beneficial for the Johns Groupâs development in the long run,â Andrew mused, his voice deep and thoughtful.
Madisyn knew he was right. Gemond, while strong, was only the second-best city in the country. Ansport was where the real opportunities lay, where ambition and hard work could truly pay off. The thought of her future in Ansport stirred a mix of excitement and anticipation within her.
They walked a bit longer, the night gradually growing deeper. Finally, Andrew took Madisyn home.
They said their goodbyes at the gate of the Johns familyâs home, and when Madisyn headed inside, she found Elaine and Dane in the living room, wide awake. Elaineâs eyes sparkled with a knowing look, her lips curling into a smile.
Madisyn couldnât quite place why, but a pang of guilt tugged at her.
âMom, Dane, youâre still up?â she asked, trying to sound casual.
âActually, I was just about to head to bed,â Elaine replied with a smile. âDid you have a good time?â
âIt was okay,â Madisyn answered, though her voice felt oddly weak. She hurriedly added, âIâm heading up now.â
âAlright,â Elaine said, her smile lingering as Madisyn disappeared upstairs.
Once she was gone, Elaine turned to Dane, her smile widening. âItâs nice that Andrew made time to come back and see Madisyn.â
Dane frowned, his dissatisfaction evident. âItâs the least he should do.â
Elaine gave him a curious look. âWhatâs wrong? It seems like youâre not as opposed as before.â
Dane remained silent, his thoughts tangled. He hadnât fully accepted the situation, but he couldnât deny that Andrew was a good choice. With Madisyn soon moving to Ansport, knowing that Andrew would be there to look out for her brought him a small measure of comfort.
âMom, you should rest early,â Dane finally said, his tone softer than before.
After he left, Elaine eagerly dialed Glenn, her voice brimming with excitement as she chattered on about Madisyn and Andrew.
Glenn, though not entirely on board with Madisynâs choice, found himself nodding along, agreeing with his wife more out of habit than conviction.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Madisyn retired to her bedroom and checked her phone.
Evie had sent her several texts.
âMadisyn, howâre things? Does Andrew like the gift?â
âMadisyn! My brother cut off my allowance, but I donât know why.â
âMadisyn, you have to help me! Heâs being so hard on me.â
Madisyn stared at the screen, feeling at a loss.
How could she explain to Evie that her relationship with Andrew was still in its fragile beginnings?
With a hesitant sigh, she typed her reply. âAndrew and I just got together recentlyâ¦â
Evieâs response was quick, her frustration evident. âSo, my brotherâs that ungrateful, huh? Okay, okay, I admit itâs my fault. Now, please help me!â
Madisyn felt a pang of sympathy and quickly reassured her, âIâll ask him to give you back your allowance.â
Evieâs mood shifted instantly. âThank you so, so, so much, Madisyn!â
But as Evieâs excitement faded, a realization dawned on her.
Now that Madisyn was officially with Andrew, and given how well she and Madisyn got along, how could Andrew possibly continue to treat her harshly? Surely, he wouldnât dare!
