Chapter 231
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 231:
âWell, how have you been?â
âWeâre doing well. How about you?â Rowan, dressed sharply in a suit, looked both elegant and distinguished. Next to him on the sofa sat his wife, Sarai Johns, clad in a graceful blue dress that complemented her figure, though her demeanor was rather haughty.
Sarai had remained seated during the initial greetings. After a brief exchange between the brothers, she finally stood up.
âHi, Elaine, Glenn.â Sarai, now standing, glanced over at Madisyn, her expression registering mild surprise. âAnd who might this be?â
âThis is Madisyn,â Elaine responded with a warm smile. âMadisyn, this is your aunt-in-law, Sarai.â
âNice to meet you, Sarai,â Madisyn greeted her courteously.
Sarai nodded, slightly taken aback by Madisynâs beauty. It was clear Madisyn had inherited striking features from her parents. Nonetheless, Sarai considered that despite her looks, Madisyn was just another worldly woman.
Rowan invited everyone to sit. âThe chef has just finished preparing dinner. Letâs talk more over the meal.â
âSure,â Glenn said.
The dining table was filled with an array of delicious dishes. During the meal, Madisyn remained mostly silent, listening attentively.
Glenn and Rowan carried on their conversation. âSo, where are your children? Why arenât they here?â Glenn inquired.
âMy son is studying overseas,â Rowan explained casually. âAnd my daughter is still at work. Sheâs currently teaching calligraphy and painting.â
âSheâs a teacher? I remember sheâs a year younger than Madisyn, right?â Glenn asked, somewhat surprised.
âYes,â Rowan confirmed. âSheâs lucky to have been hired by Greville College. Itâs a great opportunity for her.â
His statement caught everyone off guard. Greville College was renowned nationally for its programs in painting and calligraphy. Typically, only those with a rich background in the field could secure a teaching position there.
This time, Glennâs admiration was sincere. âCourtney is truly remarkable. To be a teacher at Greville College so young, sheâs definitely going places!â
âAbsolutely,â Rowan said, pride evident in his voice. âI was over 30 when I started there, and now sheâs the youngest instructor on staff.â Rowan hesitated before saying, âGlenn, I actually need a favor.â
âOh? Whatâs that?â Glenn asked.
âCourtney is doing well among her peers, but her current mentor isnât cutting it anymore. Weâre hoping to find her a more fitting mentor,â Rowan explained.
âWho do you have in mind?â Glenn pondered.
âHutton Marquez,â Rowan answered.
At this, Madisyn glanced up, noticing the surprised look on her parentsâ faces. She stayed quiet, bowing her head as she continued to eat.
âBut Hutton hasnât taken on any students in years,â Glenn remarked.
âIâm aware. However, Hutton is the best right now. We want Courtney to train with him to bring prestige to our country. Glenn, didnât Dad have a strong rapport with Hutton? I recall you used to see him often,â Rowan said.
Glenn paused. Their father had indeed been well-connected and maintained a close relationship with Hutton during their younger days. Since his fatherâs death, Glenn had kept in touch with his fatherâs old acquaintances sporadically. On the other hand, Rowan, having been estranged from their father, had lost those connections.
âHutton is quite eccentric,â Glenn admitted. âHeâs been living away from society in a temple these last few years, and Iâve lost contact with him. I can try to reconnect, but I canât guarantee anything.â
âThatâs all Iâm hoping for, Glenn,â Rowan said with a smile. âJust the fact youâre willing to help is enough for me. Letâs raise our glasses.â
Sarai, who had been silent until now, turned to Elaine with a warm smile. âElaine, itâs been years, yet you havenât aged a bit. You look so stunning and radiant. Your skin is just wonderful.â
Elaine responded with a humble smile, âThank you, Sarai. Youâre looking quite stunning yourself.â
Sarai then shifted her focus to Madisyn. âWhat does Madisyn do?â
âSheâs working at our familyâs company,â Elaine answered.
Sarai raised an eyebrow slightly. Working in the family business could be seen as a cushy job, right?
âElaine, Madisyn is still young and should be gaining more practical skills,â Sarai suggested. âMadisyn, if youâre interested in learning calligraphy and painting, I could ask Courtney to teach you once sheâs back.â
Elaine glanced at Madisyn, indicating the decision was hers to make.
âThank you, Sarai, but I think Iâm fine without it,â Madisyn replied gently.
Sarai insisted, âMany would jump at the chance to be taught by Courtney, but canât. Sheâs your cousin, so feel free to ask if you ever want to learn.â
Her tone was courteous, yet carried a hint of condescension.
âThank you, Sarai, but I really donât need it,â Madisyn repeated, maintaining her polite refusal.
Sarai did not push further, though it was clear she didnât take Madisynâs refusal too seriously.
As they neared the end of their meal, an elegant woman walked into the dining room.
âWhat took you so long, Courtney?â Rowan asked with a gentle reprimand.
âSorry, Dad, my class ran overtime,â Courtney responded. She then turned to greet everyone. âUncle Glenn, Elaine, itâs wonderful to see you. And this isâ¦â
She paused, clearly taken aback by Madisynâs stunning looks.
