Chapter 304
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 304:
âHow do you intend to deal with this?â Glenn retorted.
Jeffry had been expecting this exact question. He answered, âIf I take you to court, the fines will be so steep that you wonât be able to cover them, and the Johns Group will be forced into bankruptcy. Weâve raised Madisyn, and because of that, Iâm offering you a way out. Just transfer the Johns Group to me.â
Glenn snorted dismissively.
Jeffry felt insulted. âWhatâs that supposed to mean? Iâm trying to help you here! The Johns Group will survive, and who knows, maybe someday I will return it to you and let you take the reins again!â
He assumed that if he were in Glennâs shoes, he would definitely accept these terms.
âAnd what if I refuse?â Glenn inquired.
âIf you donât agree, then weâll be seeing each other in court!â Jeffry declared with arrogance, convinced Glenn wouldnât actually choose that path. After all, anyone with half a brain would know what choice to make here.
Glenn, however, stayed cool, casually sipping his coffee, which only made Jeffry feel foolish. The more Jeffry pondered, the more it irritated him. Glenn was still acting all high and mighty, even with everything falling apart.
âMr. Johns, have you made a decision?â Jeffry pressed, his patience wearing thin.
âIâll let you know in a day,â Glenn responded.
âAlright,â Jeffry said, finally content with the response. He wasnât concerned about the delay; he was sure of the outcome. He even managed a smile. âMr. Johns, order whatever you want. After today, you might not get another meal like this.â
Seeing Jeffryâs smug grin, Glenn replied flatly, âNo, thanks. You enjoy the meal.â
With that, he and Rowan got up and left.
On their way to the car, neither of them spoke. Rowan wanted to say something, but caught by the intensity of Glennâs profile, he couldnât find the words. Once they were in the car, Glenn broke the silence first. âWhat do you think our next move should be?â
Rowan wiped the sweat from his brow, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on him. Was it his own guilty conscience making him feel this way? But in the current situation, he couldnât afford to let guilt get the better of him.
âI think the top priority is to save the Johns Group,â Rowan said, his face showing his distress as he looked at Glenn. âI know itâs tough on you, Glenn, but if the Johns Group goes under, our father will never forgive us. As long as the company is still around, weâll have a chance to reclaim it eventually.â
âReally? So you think we should just throw in the towel?â Glenn asked calmly, his eyes locked on Rowan.
Despite the lack of visible emotion in Glennâs eyes, Rowan felt a sudden chill, as if every part of him had been laid bare. He broke out in a cold sweat, overwhelmed by the sensation of being fully exposed. He couldnât stop berating himself for being so useless. He couldnât even stand up to Glennâs stare.
âThereâs no alternative at the moment. If there was another option, no one would willingly give up the company. This mess is partly because of you. I understand youâre heartbroken over Madisynâs passing, but now weâre also facing the loss of the company.â Rowan shifted the topic deliberately.
Glenn continued to fix his gaze on him.
Rowan soon bowed his head. âI understand that Madisyn was your daughter, and itâs only natural for you to be upset. But our opponents have seized this opportunity to hit us hard. Glenn, weâre in a difficult position with no evidence to back up our defense. As hard as it might be, we need to choose one of the options Jeffry put on the table.â
âThen why donât you try finding the person who broke into my office?â Glennâs look was piercing.
Rowan couldnât hold Glennâs gaze. âWeâve been looking into this for a long time with no leads.â
âRowan!â Glennâs tone turned serious. âOur father always knew you werenât driven by fame or money, and he was relieved we didnât become like other rich families where brothers turn against each other.â
âIâ I know. Why are you mentioning this now?â
âBecause I know the truth, Rowan,â Glenn said firmly. âYou might seem indifferent to fame and money, but you have pride, donât you? Thatâs why you wanted to be part of the company, to prove your worth.â
Rowan shivered slightly. Each word from Glenn hit him deeply. Glenn, who rarely talked with him, seemed to understand him well.
âWhat are you getting at?â Rowanâs throat felt parched.
âThis is your moment to show what youâre made of,â Glenn said, his gaze steady. âIf you manage this well, Iâll restore your dividend. You have one day, Rowan. Think it through.â
Rowan stayed silent, his mind blank.
He barely remembered how he made it home.
âRowan, Rowan! Darling!â Saraiâs voice cut through his haze. He snapped back to reality, his eyes still clouded with confusion as he finally turned his gaze toward her.
