Chapter 307

Comeback Of The Adored Heiress

Chapter 307:

“Yes, but please trust me. Do you think our daughter is that foolish?” Glenn asked, his voice steady.

Elaine paused, knowing Madisyn was anything but foolish. Madisyn knew how to handle everything so well.

“Is she really okay? And what about that car?”

“It was all part of her plan,” Glenn reassured her. “I didn’t tell you earlier because I didn’t want you to worry, but she’s been in control the whole time.”

Elaine still felt uneasy. “Are you sure?”

“Of course. If Madisyn had really passed away, do you think I’d keep it from you?” Glenn said, his tone gentle yet firm.

Elaine’s voice trembled as she asked, “But where is she now? I haven’t been a good mother. I thought she was just busy when she didn’t reply to my messages yesterday.”

“She’s fine, I promise. But how did you find out?”

“Sarai told me,” Elaine answered.

Glenn’s expression darkened, a sneer playing on his lips. “Sarai… She and her family are looking for trouble.”

Elaine’s mind raced. “Did the car accident have anything to do with them?”

“Honey, stay out of this. Enjoy your vacation and relax. I’ll handle everything here,” Glenn suggested, trying to ease her worries.

Elaine nodded, realizing now why Glenn had kept her in the dark. As emotional as she was, knowing the full extent of the situation would have been too much for her to bear. And if she’d known Madisyn was pretending to be dead, she might have accidentally exposed her, putting her in real danger.

Elaine took a deep breath, trying to calm herself and push the thoughts from her mind. But the idea of enjoying the vacation didn’t appeal to her. Instead, she went to the church to pray, hoping for Madisyn’s safety and the well-being of her entire family.

The next day, Howard, Dane, and Glenn stayed at home when Waylon called, his voice trembling with emotion. “Was Madisyn really in that car accident?”

“Quit your grieving and just focus on your work,” Dane responded coldly.

“Dane, stop being an asshole! You expect me to work after hearing something like this? I can’t focus on anything right now!” Waylon’s voice wavered with emotion.

“Enough!” Dane barked, his tone cutting through the air. Waylon was furious, but he didn’t dare to speak anymore.

Dane’s voice softened, becoming more reassuring. “Look, focus on your work. We’re all at home, safe and sound, alright?”

Waylon, though often a bit gullible, wasn’t entirely foolish. The calmness in Dane’s voice told him everything—Madisyn was okay; otherwise, his family wouldn’t be so composed. He was also aware of the rumors swirling around about the Johns Group’s possible collapse. He suspected that whatever was going on with Madisyn was tied to it, but he didn’t know the details. All he could do was focus on his acting and plan to check on his sister once his work was done.

The day slipped by quickly.

Later, Glenn reached out to Rowan.

“What’s the situation?” Glenn asked, his tone even.

Rowan thought for a long time before he finally said, “Glenn, I haven’t found that person.”

“Alright,” Glenn responded, his voice calm and collected. “Let’s arrange a meeting with the Chapman family.”

It was the second time the Johns brothers met with the Chapmans, but this time, the atmosphere was different. The Chapman family members were more arrogant, their confidence evident in every gesture. Jeffry, now dressed in flashy clothes that screamed nouveau riche, lounged on the sofa, casting a smug look at Glenn. Adding to the tension, the Chapmans had invited reporters, who stood nearby, cameras at the ready.

“Mr. Johns, what’s your decision?” Jeffry asked, a sly grin playing on his lips.

Glenn glanced at the reporters and then back at Jeffry. “What do you mean by this, Jeffry?”

“I’m just concerned you might not keep your word,” Jeffry replied, his tone dripping with mockery. “You don’t mind them being here, do you?”

The surrounding reporters raised their cameras, lenses trained on Glenn. If he agreed to Jeffry’s terms, he’d be forced to hand over the Johns Group or risk being condemned by the public. But if he refused, the Johns Group would face ruin, as the evidence of plagiarism was damning.

Jeffry, for once, thought he had outsmarted Glenn. This was his chance to bring Glenn down and seize control of the Johns Group.

Jenna and Phyllis sat nearby, feigning righteous indignation, though their eyes gleamed with satisfaction. They were certain that victory was within their grasp, and their smugness was barely concealed.

Glenn’s response was icy, “Fine.”

Jeffry’s smile widened. He was confident that he had Glenn cornered. “I’ve given you a day to think it over. But now, Mr. Johns, it’s time you told me your decision. We’ve suffered great losses because of you.”

Glenn turned to Rowan. “Well, Rowan, what do you think we should do?”

Rowan was caught off guard. He hadn’t expected Glenn to put the decision in his hands at such a crucial moment. Cold sweat began to form on his forehead as the eyes of the room bore down on him. With the pressure mounting, he said, “Glenn, this is an important matter. You should handle it yourself. Whatever decision you make, I’ll support you.”

Glenn sighed, his voice heavy with a mix of resignation and disappointment. “Rowan, our father is gone, and it’s just the two of us now. I know you wanted to contribute to the company. None of us wanted things to come to this. You have never done decision-making for the company, so I’m giving you this chance, at this final moment. Whatever choice you make, I’ll stand by it.”

Rowan hadn’t expected Glenn to be so determined to let him make the choice. Everyone in the room was stunned.

Jeffry quickly interpreted the situation as a sign of Glenn’s desperation. Glenn, once the wealthiest man in Gemond, now faced defeat at the hands of a smaller, seemingly insignificant group. Unwilling to confront the reality, Glenn had passed the decision-making responsibility to Rowan.

For Jeffry, this was an opportunity. He looked at Rowan, remembering their agreement: after he acquired the Johns Group, it would belong to Rowan. Surely, Rowan knew what needed to be done.
