Chapter 307
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 307:
âYes, but please trust me. Do you think our daughter is that foolish?â Glenn asked, his voice steady.
Elaine paused, knowing Madisyn was anything but foolish. Madisyn knew how to handle everything so well.
âIs she really okay? And what about that car?â
âIt was all part of her plan,â Glenn reassured her. âI didnât tell you earlier because I didnât want you to worry, but sheâs been in control the whole time.â
Elaine still felt uneasy. âAre you sure?â
âOf course. If Madisyn had really passed away, do you think Iâd keep it from you?â Glenn said, his tone gentle yet firm.
Elaineâs voice trembled as she asked, âBut where is she now? I havenât been a good mother. I thought she was just busy when she didnât reply to my messages yesterday.â
âSheâs fine, I promise. But how did you find out?â
âSarai told me,â Elaine answered.
Glennâs expression darkened, a sneer playing on his lips. âSarai⦠She and her family are looking for trouble.â
Elaineâs mind raced. âDid the car accident have anything to do with them?â
âHoney, stay out of this. Enjoy your vacation and relax. Iâll handle everything here,â Glenn suggested, trying to ease her worries.
Elaine nodded, realizing now why Glenn had kept her in the dark. As emotional as she was, knowing the full extent of the situation would have been too much for her to bear. And if sheâd known Madisyn was pretending to be dead, she might have accidentally exposed her, putting her in real danger.
Elaine took a deep breath, trying to calm herself and push the thoughts from her mind. But the idea of enjoying the vacation didnât appeal to her. Instead, she went to the church to pray, hoping for Madisynâs safety and the well-being of her entire family.
The next day, Howard, Dane, and Glenn stayed at home when Waylon called, his voice trembling with emotion. âWas Madisyn really in that car accident?â
âQuit your grieving and just focus on your work,â Dane responded coldly.
âDane, stop being an asshole! You expect me to work after hearing something like this? I canât focus on anything right now!â Waylonâs voice wavered with emotion.
âEnough!â Dane barked, his tone cutting through the air. Waylon was furious, but he didnât dare to speak anymore.
Daneâs voice softened, becoming more reassuring. âLook, focus on your work. Weâre all at home, safe and sound, alright?â
Waylon, though often a bit gullible, wasnât entirely foolish. The calmness in Daneâs voice told him everythingâMadisyn was okay; otherwise, his family wouldnât be so composed. He was also aware of the rumors swirling around about the Johns Groupâs possible collapse. He suspected that whatever was going on with Madisyn was tied to it, but he didnât know the details. All he could do was focus on his acting and plan to check on his sister once his work was done.
The day slipped by quickly.
Later, Glenn reached out to Rowan.
âWhatâs the situation?â Glenn asked, his tone even.
Rowan thought for a long time before he finally said, âGlenn, I havenât found that person.â
âAlright,â Glenn responded, his voice calm and collected. âLetâs arrange a meeting with the Chapman family.â
It was the second time the Johns brothers met with the Chapmans, but this time, the atmosphere was different. The Chapman family members were more arrogant, their confidence evident in every gesture. Jeffry, now dressed in flashy clothes that screamed nouveau riche, lounged on the sofa, casting a smug look at Glenn. Adding to the tension, the Chapmans had invited reporters, who stood nearby, cameras at the ready.
âMr. Johns, whatâs your decision?â Jeffry asked, a sly grin playing on his lips.
Glenn glanced at the reporters and then back at Jeffry. âWhat do you mean by this, Jeffry?â
âIâm just concerned you might not keep your word,â Jeffry replied, his tone dripping with mockery. âYou donât mind them being here, do you?â
The surrounding reporters raised their cameras, lenses trained on Glenn. If he agreed to Jeffryâs terms, heâd be forced to hand over the Johns Group or risk being condemned by the public. But if he refused, the Johns Group would face ruin, as the evidence of plagiarism was damning.
Jeffry, for once, thought he had outsmarted Glenn. This was his chance to bring Glenn down and seize control of the Johns Group.
Jenna and Phyllis sat nearby, feigning righteous indignation, though their eyes gleamed with satisfaction. They were certain that victory was within their grasp, and their smugness was barely concealed.
Glennâs response was icy, âFine.â
Jeffryâs smile widened. He was confident that he had Glenn cornered. âIâve given you a day to think it over. But now, Mr. Johns, itâs time you told me your decision. Weâve suffered great losses because of you.â
Glenn turned to Rowan. âWell, Rowan, what do you think we should do?â
Rowan was caught off guard. He hadnât expected Glenn to put the decision in his hands at such a crucial moment. Cold sweat began to form on his forehead as the eyes of the room bore down on him. With the pressure mounting, he said, âGlenn, this is an important matter. You should handle it yourself. Whatever decision you make, Iâll support you.â
Glenn sighed, his voice heavy with a mix of resignation and disappointment. âRowan, our father is gone, and itâs just the two of us now. I know you wanted to contribute to the company. None of us wanted things to come to this. You have never done decision-making for the company, so Iâm giving you this chance, at this final moment. Whatever choice you make, Iâll stand by it.â
Rowan hadnât expected Glenn to be so determined to let him make the choice. Everyone in the room was stunned.
Jeffry quickly interpreted the situation as a sign of Glennâs desperation. Glenn, once the wealthiest man in Gemond, now faced defeat at the hands of a smaller, seemingly insignificant group. Unwilling to confront the reality, Glenn had passed the decision-making responsibility to Rowan.
For Jeffry, this was an opportunity. He looked at Rowan, remembering their agreement: after he acquired the Johns Group, it would belong to Rowan. Surely, Rowan knew what needed to be done.
