Chapter 313
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 313:
Dane imagined the scene and found it rather absurd. He ended the call with a sigh. Following the hearty meal, Madisyn and Andrew stayed at the villa, relaxing until bedtime. As they were about to leave, Madisyn noticed the sadness in Glennâs eyes, as if something was troubling him. She approached him and whispered, âDad, maybe you should have a word with Uncle.â
Glenn had the same thought but hesitated, fearing Rowanâs pleading might lead him to let go of Courtney. Madisyn looked at Glenn and said, âCourtney acted this way because Rowan didnât raise her properly. Jenna, the main culprit in this issue, has been punished. Courtney hasnât faced punishment yet, but with her father in prison, she will definitely be scorned. Isnât that a form of punishment for her? If she acts out again, Iâll report to the police that she conspired with Jenna. Iâm confident that this will make Courtney think twice before causing any more trouble, bringing us some peace. If we go straight to the police, Sarai will be on our doorstep daily, and Rowan might come to resent us. Itâs better to let them stew in their own mess.â
Glenn was taken aback by how thorough Madisynâs analysis was. Her insight was far beyond her peers, showing a depth of wisdom that was more typical of someone much older. Glenn felt a surge of pride for his daughter. âMadisyn, youâre truly exceptional. Youâre going to achieve great things in the future.â
Smiling, Madisyn replied, âOf course, I wonât turn out badly with parents like you and Mom.â
Glenn smiled and gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. His anxiety eased instantly.
âIf you decide to go to the police station, Iâll come with you,â Madisyn said.
âAlright,â Glenn nodded.
The following day, after the morning rain, the sky cleared, and the fresh air made everyone who breathed it feel refreshed. Madisyn and Glenn headed to the police station together. After they completed their statements with the police, Glenn went to meet Rowan.
When they met, Glenn noticed that Rowan looked worn out, but he remained calm. Rowan gave a bitter smile. âGlenn, Iâve brought this on myself. I should have realized that the password being the anniversary of Fatherâs death was a red flag, but I ignored it. I wanted my family to have a good life too badly. But itâs clear Iâm not as capable as you. I finally understood why Father left the company to you.â
Glenn replied coolly, âAt least you confessed at the last moment, which shows youâre not completely foolish. Father entrusted the company to me because Iâd been studying business from a young age. He offered you money because he knew you were better suited for the art world. He was so perceptive; he understood us well. His plans were meant to benefit us. We managed well for years, but things started to unravel once we reconnected.â
Rowan seemed lost in thought. âYes, thatâs what Father intendedâ¦â Tears welled up at the corners of his eyes. âI always felt like Father favored you. But he was actually kind to both of us.â
âEven if you donât hold shares in the company, Iâve made sure you get an annual dividend. This was also part of Fatherâs wish before he passed away.â
Rowanâs distress deepened when he heard this. He struck himself on the head and lamented, âIâm so foolish! Glenn, Iâve been truly wrong!â His life had been a living torment lately. It wasnât just the physical torment; the mental pressure was just as relentless and crushing. He couldnât understand how he could do those things.
Glenn observed Rowan and sighed. He reflected on his own shortcomings as a big brother; perhaps if he had guided Rowan better, things might have turned out differently. âDo you know who was behind Madisynâs âdeath?'â Glenn asked.
âIsnât it Jenna from the Chapman family?â Rowan questioned, puzzled by Glennâs inquiry.
âYes,â Glenn confirmed. âBut she hadnât been in touch with Madisyn for a long time, and she didnât know where Madisyn lived. Why would she suddenly track her down and try to kill her?â
Rowanâs heart sank as he suddenly pieced something together from his brotherâs words. âNo, that canât be,â Rowan said, his face turning pale as he shook his head. âItâs impossible!â
âYouâve figured it out, havenât you? Itâs Courtney,â Glenn said with a cold edge to his voice.
The thought of Courtney and Jenna plotting to murder Madisyn was too much to bear for Rowan. He felt as if he might lose consciousness. He knew Courtney was jealous of Madisyn, but he never imagined sheâd resort to murder. Yet Courtney had increasingly seemed like a stranger to him.
Rowan sank to his knees before Glenn, tears streaming as he sobbed. âGlenn, Iâm so sorry. Itâs all my fault. I failed to raise my daughter properly. Courtney has been exceptionally gifted since childhood, which gave her a sense of superiority and made her believe she was the best. She never realized there are always others who excel more until she met Madisyn. Her jealousy drove her to go too far with Madisyn!â
