Chapter 35
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 35:
How could Madisyn still act so arrogant at a moment like this?
Josie was certain that if her friend was arrested, Madisyn would definitely bear the consequences. She would pay for her defiance.
âIf you canât find the ring on her, is an apology enough?â Madisyn asked coolly.
âWhat do you want, then?â Josie snapped, her composure faltering slightly.
âIf you donât find the ring on her, you owe my friend a million dollars for emotional distress,â Madisyn replied, her voice calm but resolute.
A million dollars?
Josieâs confidence wavered. She only received tens of thousands as her monthly allowance, yet she couldnât back down now. âFine!â she agreed with forced determination. âLetâs start searching her right now!â
After all, Josie had arranged for someone to slip the ring into Susanâs pocket. She was sure it would be found there.
Kristine opened her mouth as if to intervene but merely sighed, casting a disapproving glance at Madisyn.
Madisyn, unphased by the mounting tension, turned to Susan. âDo you trust me?â
Susan, who had been trembling, met Madisynâs gaze. Being publicly accused and searched was humiliating, guilty or not. But without the search, she couldnât prove her innocence. With Madisyn by her side, she felt a flicker of hope. She nodded firmly, her voice barely above a whisper, âOkay, I consent.â
The search began, and all eyes were glued to Susan. Josie watched with eager anticipation, waiting for the moment the ring would be discovered.
But thenâ¦

The waitress who performed the search looked up, puzzled. âThereâs nothing on her.â
Josieâs smug expression faltered. âThatâs impossible! She must have hidden it somewhere else!â she sputtered.
Madisyn stepped in, her voice razor-sharp. âJosie, why are you so sure she has the ring? Did you put it in her pocket yourself?â
Josieâs face drained of color as Madisynâs words hit her like a hammer. She stammered, âI⦠I just know sheâs the only one who would stoop so low.â
Madisynâs icy gaze pierced through Josieâs defense. âDo you think wealth gives you the right to falsely accuse others? My friend may not be as rich as you, but sheâs honest, hardworking, and has integrity. Sheâs nothing like youâsomeone who uses her wealth to cover up her bad manners and baseless accusations.â
Josieâs expression darkened, her pride wounded. âHow dare you!â
Madisyn remained unfazed. âYour ring is missing, but anyone here could have taken it.â
Glenn, seeing the growing chaos, suggested calmly, âLetâs check everyoneâs bags, just to be sure.â
The guests exchanged uneasy glances but began opening their bags. One by one, they complied, but the ring was nowhere to be found.
âNo one else has it,â Josie insisted, her desperation mounting. âSusan must have hidden it. I canât believe anyone else would take my ring!â
Tears welled up in Susanâs eyes as she cried out, âThis is insane! Youâre accusing me without any evidence!â
Madisyn, her patience wearing thin, glanced toward Josieâs friends. âThere are still some people we havenât checked,â she said pointedly.
The red-haired woman who had bumped into Susan earlier shifted uncomfortably.
Josie scoffed. âThese are my closest friends. They wouldnât steal from me.â
Kristine, always the tactician, intervened smoothly. âItâs fine, Josie. If Madisyn thinks itâs necessary, letâs check. Itâll clear things up.â
With reluctance, the friends opened their bags, though they shot Madisyn looks of disdain. Josie stood with her arms crossed, confident her friends were beyond suspicion.
Then suddenlyâ¦
A glint of light caught everyoneâs attention from the red-haired womanâs bag. The distinct sparkle of diamonds was unmistakable. It was Josieâs ring.
The room fell silent, stunned by the unexpected turn.
The red-haired womanâs face went pale, utterly confused. âHow did this get here?â she whispered, her voice trembling.
Madisyn broke the silence, her tone laced with irony. âIt seems that being called a âfriendâ is a pretty good disguise. We were all nearly deceived.â
Josieâs face turned crimson with shock and disbelief. âNo! This canât be! She wouldnât steal from me! This must be a setup!â
Madisyn raised an eyebrow. âThe proof is right here. Who else could have set her up?â
Josie, now floundering for a defense, stammered, âBut it was Susan⦠Sheâs the one who wouldâ¦â
âAnd yet, you were so certain it was Susan. It makes me wonder if youâre the one who put the ring in Susanâs pocket in the first place,â Madisyn replied coldly.
The guests, who had been so quick to judge Susan, now turned their judgmental gazes toward Josie, who stood frozen, her reputation crumbling before her eyes.
