Chapter 364

Comeback Of The Adored Heiress

Chapter 364:

Vera’s expression paled. She was aware she was ill, but she hadn’t thought it was severe enough to require hospitalization. Her greatest fear was that once she left, she might never return to the lab. With her family relying on her earnings, she had to keep her job.

Suddenly, Vera covered her face and started crying. “I’m so sorry. My selfishness and stupidity caused all of your efforts to go to waste!”

Helen was stunned; she hadn’t expected Vera to be sick. Andrew faced Vera and said decisively, “Don’t come to work anymore.”

Vera had seen this coming. Her eyes grew dull, and she nodded. “I understand. Boss, I am very grateful for the time I had working with everyone…”

“Look after yourself. The lab will take care of your medical costs. When you’ve fully recovered, you’re welcome back,” Andrew continued, his tone stern yet determined.

Vera was astonished, staring at him in disbelief. “Mr. Klein, really? I can come back when I’m better?”

“You’re a top-notch researcher. We need you,” Andrew responded plainly.

“Alright! I’ll do my best to recover quickly!” Vera exclaimed, tears streaming down her cheeks. She had always seen Andrew as intimidating, yet now she recognized a kindness in him. Despite his lofty position, he showed empathy for his team’s hardships. With newfound resolve, she was eager to heal and return to show her gratitude.

Andrew then turned to Helen, his voice commanding as he said, “Apologize to Dr. Mia.”

Helen’s lips tightened, her compliance hesitant. “I’m sorry, Dr. Mia,” she mumbled, her voice lacking sincerity.

Madisyn interjected, eager to move past the conflict. “Vera should concentrate on finishing this project. The herbs are ready. The next phase is critical.”

After reviewing their work, Madisyn immediately understood why this team hadn’t achieved their goal. It turned out they had fallen short at every step, so she would have to start over from the beginning.

Andrew led Madisyn to the extraction area. The room was enormous, and Madisyn couldn’t help but wonder how much it had cost to build such an advanced lab.

Madisyn oversaw the extraction process. One hour later, as she took off her lab coat, her forehead was covered in sweat. Though brief, the task demanded perfect accuracy, which was tiring.

“Dr. Mia, thank you so much,” Andrew said.

“I’ll ride for you.”

“Okay, but I want to know how much you’ve spent building this,” Madisyn said.

“Five billion dollars,” Andrew responded casually.

Madisyn was startled. The amount was staggering. It was evident Andrew cared about their health a lot. He was nothing like Corbett, whose only aim was to snatch the CEO position.

“Once the medicine is produced, it can be sold globally. That’s when you’ll start seeing returns,” Madisyn said.

“Maybe so, but chasing profits isn’t my goal. If anyone really needs the medicine, we’ll just give it to them,” Andrew replied.

Madisyn regarded Andrew, struck by his commanding presence and his kindness.

“I never knew you were such a kind person, Mr. Klein,” she said softly.

“Not everyone can afford the necessary treatments, yet their suffering is the same. Because my grandfather is battling this illness, I want to ensure others with this condition get a chance to recover,” Andrew explained.

His kindness struck a chord. Madisyn felt her heart warm at his compassionate words. True worth involved not only riches but also integrity.

“Alright, I’m heading home,” Madisyn said.

She was so exhausted that she went directly to bed as soon as she arrived home, not even glancing at her phone.

The following morning, Madisyn awoke and noticed a missed call from Andrew.

“Morning! You turned in early last night—what’s going on?” Madisyn inquired, her voice heavy with sleep as she yawned.

She had indeed slept well the previous night.

“Nothing pressing; I just missed you,” Andrew said softly.

“Join me for breakfast since you’re up?”

“Okay!”

Madisyn ended the call.

She gazed at her phone screen after the call. Last night, Andrew had called at one in the morning, just when she was settling into bed.

It was unusual for Andrew to call so late; he was typically mindful of her need for rest. A troubling thought crossed Madisyn’s mind. Could Andrew have suspected something?

She quickly shook off the thought. She had been so cautious; even if she stood directly in front of him, he wouldn’t recognize her.

Telling herself not to overthink things, Madisyn proceeded to wash her face and brush her teeth. While preparing, she thought of Josie, who was often troublesome. She decided to reach out to Susan. If Josie was aware of Susan’s connection, she wouldn’t just overlook it.

“Susan, has Josie been troubling you lately?”
