Chapter 365
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 365:
âDonât worry. She probably doesnât know where I am,â Susan said with a smile.
âAre you at the hospital right now?â
âYes, I just grabbed some breakfast,â Susan replied. Madisyn wished her well and ended the call.
Susan had been in high spirits lately; her grandfather was doing well, and she and Dane were back together. Things were looking up.
Yet, as Susan turned a corner, she bumped into someone, causing her breakfast to tumble to the floor.
At first, she thought the person was just careless and checked to see if they were burned, but then she recognized the face that always made her uneasy.
âSusan, I finally found you,â Josie said, her expression grim.
Josie had faced some challenges in Anspart recently. Her deal with the Riggs Group had fallen through, and her attempts to approach Dane had been rebuffed. After days of feeling downcast, she finally tracked Susan down.
âJosie? You just ruined my breakfast,â Susan said, her face devoid of emotion.
Looking at the noodles scattered on the floor, Josie scoffed. âIs this disgusting meal your breakfast? Youâre as poor as ever! How did Dane even fall for someone like you? Is he into plain girls now?â
Indeed, Josie couldnât figure out why Dane had fallen for Susan.
Susan remained expressionless. âNo matter what kind of girls Dane likes, he will never like you. Also, you owe me for my breakfast.â
Josie pulled out a bill and threw it on the floor. âHere, one hundred. Is that enough? Pick it up yourself!â The bill fell into the soup, becoming soakedâa blatant insult.
Susan clenched her fists and said, âJosie Reed!â
âWhat? Are you upset? Susan, how dare you pursue Dane and then snap at me?â Josie taunted, her tone overtly aggressive.
Bystanders in the corridor began to pause and gather, drawn to the escalating scene.
âSince youâve chosen to interfere in our relationship, you should expect to be rebuked!â Josie yelled.
People generally relished drama, particularly gossip of this nature. When they overheard the well-dressed woman accusing the plainly dressed Susan of being the other woman, they started to look down on Susan.
People naturally dislike those who interfere in othersâ relationships. This woman appeared so pure and innocent; they were shocked to see her implicated in such actions. This stirred a sense of morality among the onlookers.
âYouâre still young. Canât you earn your own living? Why resort to such behavior?â
âDonât be lenient with the other woman. A firm hand will set her straight!â
âItâs disgusting. I hate women who seem innocent but act shamefully behind closed doors. So disgusting!â
Everyone glared at Susan with contempt, some even spitting in her direction.
Susan recoiled and stared at Josie in disbelief. She couldnât believe Josie would stoop to spreading such slander!
Her expression chilled, and she said, âJosie, donât go too far. Dane has never cared for you! Why accuse me of being the other woman? Even if youâre envious, you shouldnât stoop so low! What will Dane think when he finds out?â
Josie momentarily felt uneasy from Susanâs words but quickly regained her composure and retorted, âSusan, in the end, family will choose me, not you. Doesnât that make you the other woman right now?â
At that, Susan nearly laughed. âAlright. Iâll call him here, and weâll see if Iâm the other woman.â
Susan pulled out her phone to make the call. Josieâs expression shifted subtly as she quickly grabbed Susanâs hand. âSusan, be realistic. You and Dane are not a good match. Do you really want everyone to think Dane has poor taste for choosing you? People in his circle will mock you for it!â
At that, Susan hesitated, her heart pangs of uncertainty. She didnât want to cause any issues for Dane.
She understood that wealthy families often aligned themselves with power, and her status could negatively impact Dane.
Seeing that Susan hesitated, Josie quickly said, âYou know youâre not right for Dane, donât you? Just leave. Donât cause trouble. Dane will marry me eventually. Do you understand?â
The onlookers slowly started to grasp the situation. Josieâs jewelry hinted at her wealth, marking her as someone from a well-off background.
In contrast, Susan looked plain but had a stunning face. âThere are no fairytales these days. Young lady, donât meddle in the affairs of the rich people.â
âThatâs right. The rich and the common live in completely different worlds. How could you ever think of marrying into wealth?â
The crowd seemed to agree that Susan was being overly ambitious.
Josie smiled triumphantly. âSusan, everyone here is making sense, donât you see? Even if you are together, it wouldnât lead to happiness.â
âReally? My daughter doesnât deserve to be with Dane,â a deep voice came from behind.
It belonged to someone who sounded like an experienced businessman, carrying an air of authority.
Josie turned and was shocked to see Esteban. âMr. Riggs, why are you here?â Suddenly, Josieâs demeanor shifted dramatically. With a sycophantic smile, she asked, âMr. Riggs, are you here for medical treatment?â
Susan was also surprised to see Esteban but quickly disregarded him.
Seeing Susanâs detached response, Esteban felt a pang in his heart and coldly asked, âMiss Reed, do you think Lilyâs daughter is inferior to you?â
