Chapter 392
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 392:
âMom, I was lying. I just didnât want my colleague to have feelings for me.â Howardâs words hit Elaine like a thunderclap, shattering her hopes.
âWhat? Itâs all a lie?â Elaineâs smile vanished. âWell⦠I actually think sheâs a great girl. She seems quite taken with you.â
âI just want to focus on work,â Howard replied firmly.
Elaine sighed inwardly, wondering if Howard was still hurt by his past with Tatiana. The thought of Tatiana saddened her. âI truly regret letting you get engaged to Tatiana. I should have known better.â
âItâs all in the past, Mom. No need to dwell on it,â Howard said with a calm demeanor.
Elaine fell silent, her sadness evident.
Madisyn glanced at Howard and stayed silent.
Once they were home, she called Howard and asked, âWhy didnât you tell Mom about your relationship with Milly?â She was curious whether Howard had any real feelings for Milly.
âIâm afraid Mom might not approve of Milly. Besides, Milly isnât confident about herself right now,â Howard replied.
Madisyn was direct. âI think youâre overthinking it. Mom likes Milly, for sure. She wants you to be happy.â
âAlright, I understand. But Milly prefers to keep our relationship private for now. She doesnât think she is good enough for me. Despite my reassurances, she wants to wait until she is more successful in her career before making our relationship public.â
âFine,â Madisyn said, respecting Millyâs wishes. But Milly didnât seem like someone who would feel inferior. She appeared detached and indifferent to everything, almost robotic, except when she was with Howard, where she showed a range of emotions.
The more Madisyn thought about it, the more concerned she became. âHoward, Iâm not sure if I should say this, but I have a feeling Milly might not be an ordinary woman.â
âWhat makes you say so?â Howard asked gently.
Madisyn noticed that Howard didnât seem upset by her observation, so she continued, âMilly may appear simple, but sheâs actually quite cold. She shows no emotion when interacting with others. Only when she looks at you does she display any feelings.â
Her thoughts wandered to the notion of a professional killerâsomeone trained to be emotionally detached.
Howard smiled and cheerfully replied, âSheâs been through a lot, and now she relies on me. Thatâs why she only shows her emotions with me.â
Madisyn was taken aback, not expecting that response. It was clear that Howard was deeply invested in Milly. Madisyn took a deep breath, thinking of Dane and realizing that love often made people a bit foolish. She knew that Daneâs choice was good, but Howardâsâwell, she had her doubts.
With Howard being love-struck and not thinking clearly, she decided it was pointless to continue the conversation and quickly ended the call.
The night was tranquil, except for one bustling location: Millyâs film set.
Milly was about to perform a challenging martial arts scene on the wire.
Victor, concerned about her safety, asked if she could handle it. Given that it was her first acting gig and a tough scene, even a professional might struggle.
Milly confidently replied, âI can do it.â
Victor reassured her, âYou donât need a stunt double. Start learning from the martial arts coach.â
Milly then went to the martial arts coach.
Nearby, Tatiana watched Milly with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. Was Milly really dating Howard?
As Tatiana pondered this, someone passed by, saying, âWe need to tell Victor that the wire is too old. If we keep using it, it could be dangerous.â
Tatiana regained her composure and glanced at the two staff members. She then stood up and stopped them. The staff members were respectful to Tatiana.
âTatiana, is something wrong?â
Tatiana leaned in and whispered a few instructions. The staff members hesitated but eventually headed back, following her directions.
Sitting back down, Tatiana felt a surge of satisfaction. One of the assistants guessed her intentions, saying, âTatiana, if Milly falls from that height, she could be seriously injured.â
Tatiana smirked. âIt would just be bad luck for her.â
Half an hour later, after Victor wrapped up a scene, he went to check on Millyâs progress. He found the martial arts coach, Kendall Hilton, lying on the ground with Milly standing nearby.
âKendall, why are you on the ground? Didnât I ask you to teach her to fight while standing?â Victor demanded.
Kendall was at a loss for words. He had fallen to the ground suddenly, unsure of what had just happened. Having a background as a mercenary, Kendall felt uneasy around Milly, who seemed oddly intimidating.
âSheâs fine. Go ahead,â Kendall said.
âOkay, letâs go.â
With that, Milly took her place on the wire.
The crew prepared for the next shot. Victor called, âAction!â
As the wire lowered, everyone watched in anticipation. Suddenly, the wire snapped, leaving only half of it intact and shaking wildly, with Milly swinging dangerously. Panic erupted among the crew.
âThe wire snapped!â someone cried out.
Victor, furious, shouted, âWho checked the wire? Get the actress down immediately!â
