“‘Well, everything IS going smoothly.”

“Wow, that is fantastic!” Everyone was thrilled. Jada clenched her fists and immediately called Madisyn to arrange a meeting.

Later that night, at a music-themed restaurant.

“‘Madisyn?”

When Madisyn arrived, she immediately noticed Jada sitting quietly, her eyes puffy and red, clearly from crying.

“‘What’s going on?” Madisyn asked with fake concern.

“I feel awful,” Jada said, covering her face with her hands before lowering them, holding back the tears that threatened to fall.

“‘Jada, what’s the matter?” Madisyn asked, her worry seeming to grow.

“‘Susan passed the Natural assessment and then humiliated me at work. I can’t take it anymore… But I can’t just walk away; it’s my parents’ company.”

“‘Why do you say it’s your parents’ company?” Madisyn asked in disbelief.

“‘Maybe you’re not aware, but my parents fell in love with each other even before he married Susan’s mother. Back when they were together, my mother used to give my father a lot of advice, even though she didn’t come from a wealthy and influential family. When they were about to get married, Susan’s mom tricked my dad into sleeping with her. He is a responsible man, so he had to marry her…” Jada’s eyes were red.

Anyone hearing this would feel deep sympathy for her. In contrast, they’d think Susan was a villain.

“Jada, don’t stress. I let her pass the assessment on purpose,” Madisyn said calmly.

Jada stared at her, her jaw dropped in shock.

“‘Jada, think about it. Even if she didn’t pass the assessment now, the most that would happen is she’d get mocked. But later, she could easily bounce back by working with other companies. That wouldn’t solve the main issue, right?” Madisyn explained with a smile.

Jada mulled over Madisyn’s words, and a sudden thought struck her. “Did you let Susan pass the assessment deliberately, only to set her up later? Like, if you sell her perfume to a foreign company and then accuse her of plagiarism, she’d be hit with a massive lawsuit. At that point, she’d be in serious trouble!” Madisyn was taken aback, realizing that Jada was much sharper than Kristine and Courtney. Immediately after hearing what she said, Jada devised a way to set up Susan, leaving Madisyn to simply follow along without needing to come up with ideas herself.

Madisyn agreed. “Exactly. Besides, Susan’s perfume will be inferior to yours, and people will look down on her even more. This will be your first real competition, after all!”

“You’re amazing, Madisyn.” Jada’s eyes sparkled with envy. It seemed Madisyn was ruthless. “Thank you, Madisyn. But you should sell Susan’s perfume quickly and have the buyer produce and market it fast. If their perfume hits the market before your new products, everyone will assume Susan has plagiarized.”

“Yes, that’s a good idea. But I don’t have any contacts in the industry,” Madisyn said, looking troubled.

“‘Don’t worry. I know someone who can help. Just give me the perfume,” Jada offered with a smile.

“‘Alright, you’re brilliant!” Madisyn smiled back. They had a pleasant conversation. Jada covered the bill for the meal, and then they went their separate ways.

After getting into her car, Jada received a call from Dora. She narrowed her eyes, instantly understanding why Dora was calling her.

She picked up the phone, and as anticipated, Dora’s voice came through in tears. “Jada, we’re counting on you. Since we can’t seem to persuade Andrew, Corbett is stuck in the police station. You’re important to Andrew, Jada. Please, we need your help!”

Jada sighed. “I do feel sorry for Corbett, and I’ve tried to persuade Andrew, but he won’t even talk to me about it. This situation is too serious, and even I can’t influence him.”

In reality, she had never mentioned Corbett to Andrew. Both Andrew and Damari despised Corbett now. Bringing Corbett up would likely irritate them.

“What are we going to do? Is Corbett really going to prison?” Dora cried so intensely that she nearly fainted. Jada suggested, “You should speak with Madisyn. She has a strong relationship with Andrew.”

“‘That woman won’t stand up for Dora,” Dora gritted her teeth in frustration and said bitterly. “Jada, I’m really at my wit’s end here. You’ve saved Andrew in the past, right? I’m sure if you ask him, he’ll agree to let Corbett go. Could you talk to him and see if he will agree?”

An idea struck Jada. “I think I have a solution that might help you.”

“What’s it?” Dora asked eagerly.

“‘Right now, I’m not the one who Andrew cares about; it’s Madisyn. If you were to kidnap her and use her as leverage, he’d definitely agree to let Corbett go,” Jada suggested.

“Are you sure? That could work, but we don’t even know where to find Madisyn.”

“I’ll let you know where she is.”

Dora, seeing this plan might work, agreed. Jada then ended the call and glanced at her reflection in the window; a satisfied smile slowly spread across her face. “Jada, you’re so ruthless,” she muttered to herself. But how else could she climb to the top of the wealthy elite without being that way?

To her, everyone was just a stepping stone on her path to success.
