Chapter 45
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 45:
The air in the conference room was heavy as everyone tried to process what had just been announced. Dane, sensing the tension, stepped forward. âI trust youâll cooperate with your new president,â he said, his voice firm.
A chorus of âOf course!â and nods of affirmation followed, though a sense of unease lingered among the staff, particularly with Mina.
As the meeting ended, Minaâs gaze flitted nervously toward Madisyn. She had been blatantly disrespectful earlierâwould Madisyn hold a grudge? Mina still couldnât wrap her head around who Madisyn was and how she had suddenly become president. Was she Daneâs romantic partner or something else entirely?
Madisyn caught Minaâs glance and spoke calmly, âMina Atkins, right? Please come to my office.â
Mina pressed her lips together and nodded, following her. She had expected a scolding but was instead met with professionalism as Madisyn asked, âCould you give me a brief overview of the companyâs current state?â
Mina gave a rushed explanation, but it was clear she lacked important details.
âYouâre the vice president and canât answer basic questions?â Madisynâs voice had a cold edge, sharp enough to make Mina flinch.
Feeling cornered, Minaâs irritation boiled over. âThe company has been stagnant for a while, and Iâve had to focus on external engagements⦠socializing,â she retorted, trying to justify her lack of knowledge.
âSocializing?â Madisyn echoed, unimpressed but choosing not to challenge the lie. âFrom now on, your focus is here. If you continue disappearing during office hours, I wonât hesitate to let you go.â
Mina bit her tongue, realizing she had misjudged Madisyn. She left the office feeling uneasy, but she couldnât shake her growing resentment.
Back in her own office, Minaâs assistant noticed her sour mood and asked, âWhat happened?â
âThe new president⦠sheâs young but definitely not easy to handle,â Mina replied bitterly.
The assistant, trying to comfort her, said, âDonât worry, Ms. Atkins. If she canât gain control, she wonât last long. Everyone knows the companyâs in bad shape. Maybe Mr. Johns is just setting her up for failure.â
Mina smiled, nodding. âExactly. I still donât get her connection with Mr. Johns. They share the same last name⦠could they be related?â
The assistant scoffed, âImpossible. Everyone knows Kristine is his only sister. And if this Madisyn were truly his sister, sheâd be working at headquarters, not in a struggling company like this.â
Mina agreed, her mind spinning with the possibility that Madisyn was simply someone Dane was involved withânothing more.
Meanwhile, back in the presidentâs office, Madisyn spent the day getting a firm grasp of the companyâs issues and began delegating tasks accordingly. Just as she was wrapping up, her phone rang.
âAre you at Natural Beauty?â came Andrewâs familiar, deep voice.
âHow did you know?â
âIâm outside the building.â
Madisyn, curious, grabbed her things and made her way downstairs. She spotted Andrew leaning against a sleek blue Lamborghini, drawing admiring glances from passersby. Despite his serious expression, his eyes softened when they landed on her.
âI heard from Waylon about your new job,â Andrew said as he opened the car door for her with a smile.
âYou didnât have to come. Whatâs this all about?â Madisyn asked, though she had a suspicion.
âWeâre going to pick up your car,â Andrew said, taking the driverâs seat as they sped off.
They arrived at the dealership, and Madisynâs eyes widened when she saw the car waiting for her. It was a stunning blue and white vehicle, sleek and elegant.
âItâs beautiful. Was it custom-made?â she asked, her excitement barely contained.
âYes, I thought it would suit you. Do you like it?â Andrewâs voice was warm.
âI love it!â Madisyn beamed, turning to him. âThank you, Andrew.â
Andrew chuckled, surprised. âItâs not often you call me Andrew⦠I like it.â
Madisyn, feeling slightly flustered, responded, âDoesnât Kristine call you that all the time?â
Andrewâs smile faded slightly. âI only want you to call me that.â
His comment lingered in the air, leaving Madisyn momentarily speechless. Was he flirting with her? Susanâs earlier words echoed in her mind: Mr. Klein must have feelings for you.
Madisyn shook off the thought, trying to focus. âCan I drive it now?â
âOf course, itâs all yours.â
Madisyn slid into the driverâs seat with Andrew beside her, and the car was even more comfortable and smooth than she had imagined. As she drove, they headed toward a restaurant.
âIâm treating you to dinner as thanks for the car. Itâs one of my favorite places,â Madisyn said, glancing at Andrew with a smile.
Andrew nodded, clearly pleased. âSounds perfect.â
When they arrived at the restaurant, heads turnedâfirst at the car, then at Madisyn. She was radiant, and even Andrew couldnât help but admire her.
