Chapter 478

Comeback Of The Adored Heiress

Chapter 478:

Seeing Andrew’s message, Madisyn quickly realized that Milly did this to help Howard let go. Madisyn felt conflicted. These two were meant to part ways, yet it was unfortunate for Howard.

At that moment, Howard was at work, fixated on a USB cable for a long stretch. Witnessing this, his colleague couldn’t resist inquiring, “Mr. Johns, is there an issue with this?” Howard snapped out of his daze.

“Nothing.”

“Mr. Johns, you really ought to take a break,” the colleague said, concerned.

Howard assured him, saying, “I’m fine.”

He kept working. Immersing himself in work helped him escape his sorrow. He avoided thinking about recent events.

After receiving a call from Milly that morning, he had been excited to see her. However, he found Milly with another man, his arm around her shoulder. Howard instinctively threw a punch at the man, but the man caught Howard’s hand. In that moment, Howard felt powerless.

Howard had always been fit, combining his love for science with maintaining strong physical health. He was stronger than many, but in front of this man, he felt utterly weak. He was no match for him.

“Howard,” Milly said, her voice cold as she looked at him. Howard sensed something was off with Milly and voiced his concern, “What’s going on, Milly?”

“I—Howard, it’s over between us. I came into your life for a reason. Now that I’ve accomplished what I needed, it’s time for us to part ways.” Milly spoke without emotion. That was exactly how she treated everyone else, with a cold and distant demeanor. But she had always been different with Howard!

With tears in his eyes, Howard looked at Milly and asked, “Milly, what are you saying? Are you being coerced?” Milly’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of Howard’s worn and sorrowful expression. She had braced herself for his sadness, yet the reality still struck her forcefully. Howard was meant to be joyful, not this despondent.

“Howard, wasn’t I clear? I approached you solely for access to your company’s documents. I’ve obtained them and sold them.”

“I don’t believe it!” Howard nearly shouted. “You’re lying to me, aren’t you?”

“I’m not lying to you. Did you really think I was just anybody?” Milly responded.

Howard went quiet. He had always recognized that Milly was no ordinary woman but someone truly exceptional.

“Milly,” Howard said, his face wet with tears, “I don’t…”

Milly looked at him unemotionally and said, “That’s your choice, but it’s foolish not to believe it, Howard. How could there be such a thing in the Johns family?”

Just as Howard was about to respond, his phone rang. It was a colleague, sounding highly alarmed. “Mr. Johns, it appears our document has been stolen, and another company has already filed a patent about it. What should we do?”

A shadow fell over Howard’s face as his phone slipped from his hand.

It was clear now: Milly came into his life for the document.

Howard regained his composure and fixed Milly with a cold stare. “Milly, you really liked me, didn’t you?”

“Not at all,” Milly replied, her tone frosty.

A laugh escaped Howard’s lips before he suddenly moved to reach for Milly.

Milly stepped back and soon vanished with the man.

In a panic, Howard looked around, calling out, “Milly! Milly!”

There was no answer.

She had vanished just like that.

Howard sank to his knees.

Taking a deep breath, Howard realized he needed to move past Milly and focus on his work, especially to rectify the loss the company suffered.

Howard threw himself into his work.

Outside the window, two figures sat in the branches of a sturdy sycamore.

“How do you have the heart to see him so disheartened?” a man asked casually.

Through the window, Milly watched Howard, who was lost in his experiments. He always looked his best when immersed in his work.

A melancholic smile crossed Milly’s face. “I don’t, but it’s necessary, or he’d suffer even more.”

The man pondered this, then, noting the sadness on Milly’s face, he couldn’t resist commenting, “This is the first time I’ve seen you look like this. Do you really care for him that much?”

Milly placed a hand over her heart. “My heart beats for him.”

This simple declaration left the man speechless.

There are bonds deeper than romantic love in this world.

“So, what will you do next?”

“I’ll try the organization,” Milly responded.

“After what you’ve done, I doubt Howard could accept you again. Even if you leave the organization, returning to him might not be possible,” the man said deliberately.

Milly replied, “It doesn’t matter. As long as he’s happy and healthy, I can just stay near him secretly.”

The man was at a loss for words. He found it hard to accept this caring side of Milly!

They watched for a while longer and then departed.

At her own villa, Madisyn sent a message to Andrew, asking, “How’s Howard doing?”

Andrew replied, “He’s buried in his work. It looks like he’s trying to drown his sorrows by keeping himself busy.”
