Howard watched her with a complex mix of emotions.

“She said you couldn’t harm me,” Howard stared intently at Milly.

Downstairs, Madisyn and Andrew were deep in discussion about the engagement date with Elaine. Elaine had reviewed several options, and Madisyn found them agreeable. They ultimately settled on the soonest one.

A hint of something flickered in Andrew’s eyes.

Madisyn spoke up, excitement in her voice. “Mom, should we also pick a date for Andrew and me?”

Elaine, momentarily taken aback, then smiled warmly. “Sure. Let’s find a date for you two as well! With the New Year around the corner, it’s perfect timing for your engagement as well. We must choose a good day!”

“Great!” Andrew’s eyes sparkled with amusement, his voice gentle and charming. “Elaine, I’ll follow your lead.”
