Chapter 602

Comeback Of The Adored Heiress

Chapter 602:

When Corbett spotted him, a flicker of deep-seated hatred flashed in his eyes, but he quickly masked it behind a respectful smile. “Hello, Mr. Johns.”

Peyton clapped Corbett on the shoulder and said, “Corbett here is a top tech expert as well. You two know each other?”

“I have great admiration for Mr. Johns,” Corbett replied with a smile, though his eyes remained icy.

“Good, then. You two should work well together. Mr. Johns, fill him in on the progress,” Peyton ordered.

Corbett walked over, his eyes scanning the weapon carefully. A sly smile crept onto his face as he studied it.

Howard could tell Corbett had already seen through the deception of the weapon he’d been working on.

“Peyton, are we really working on a weapon meant for explosions?” Corbett asked, his voice laced with mock confusion.

Peyton frowned, perplexed. “What are you talking about? It’s supposed to be a weapon designed for attack.”

“Well, from what I can tell, Mr. Johns’s creation seems to be…” Corbett’s eyes gleamed with amusement as he glanced at Howard. Howard felt a chill run down his spine—he hadn’t expected things to take this turn.

If Peyton and his crew figured out he was crafting an explosive device, there would be no mercy. Howard knew that for certain.

As confident as he was, he wasn’t naive enough to think he could easily slip away from the Serpentine Palers’ base.

Peyton, catching onto Corbett’s knowing look, grew impatient. “What is it? Spit it out already!”

Howard locked eyes with Corbett, his gaze sharp. He had already discreetly armed himself, prepared to take Corbett out if he dared expose the truth.

“I don’t quite get it. I’m not as skilled in tech as Mr. Johns.”

“I’ll need his guidance,” Corbett said, feigning humility.

Peyton nodded approvingly. “Mr. Johns is a top-tier talent. Work well with him, and you’ll certainly benefit from it.”

Corbett nodded, his lashes lowering just enough to hide the flicker of something that passed through his eyes. Once Peyton had left, leaving the lab to just the two of them, Howard’s gaze hardened as he looked at Corbett. Corbett shrugged with a playful smile. “I never thought you’d be so daring, Howard, pulling the wool over their eyes like that.”

Howard’s voice was ice-cold as he replied, “You know better than I do what kind of organization this is. Now that you’re stuck here with me, we’re in the same situation. If you play your part, I can help us break free from their grip. After all, you owe your freedom to them, don’t you?”

Corbett’s eyes chilled instantly. He was caught off guard by Howard’s sharp insight. It was true—he had been freed by them, but at the cost of becoming their puppet. Someone as defiant as Corbett hated being under anyone’s thumb. But the idea of taking orders from Howard? That didn’t sit right with him either.
